I was finishing up my 3rd tour in Vietnam when Freak Out was released and my wife sent it to me on tape for a little Ampex tape player I had along with a sheet of LSD , when I returned to the world in late 69 my wife was a hard core Mother's head and dancing with Vito's dance troupe at every Mother's show , these were the days before Frank had to have a body gaurd and would interact with interesting people , the split second he saw me he picked up that I had just returned from combat and we had a conversation that lasted 20 minutes easily while he left the band to improvise ,he never forgot me or my wife and autographed everything we ordered from 818-Pumpkin , he's the reason why we were able to see the Yellow Shark concert , for a rock legend it amazes me how many early mother's freaks Frank remembered to the end of his life , at 2 shows we we're brought up on stage to dance and make fools of ourselves for his pleasure and we loved it ,Frank Zappa laughing at something you are doing at his request is the best feeling ever because when you made him laugh he appeared to be even more of a guru than he already was , I miss him alot , when my wife & I saw Zappa plays Zappas 1st tour they opened the show with the song Andy ,and my wife wasn't the only person who cried ,looking around many people were in tears .

Met Frank briefly after a concert at the Fillmore East NYC in the summer of 1968, He handed me a foil-wrapped chocolate teardrop which I ate on my way home on the bus afterwards. I have never been the same again. Massive love & gratitude, Frank.

Dweezil really is a beautiful man... When he plays Black Napkins, I just cry ! Frank is my hero... I met Dweezil here in Québec city, Canada, at Halloween where they played ''Roxy and Elsewhere'' from beginning to end... It was MAGICAL !!!

26:51 "I don't know how we did it." Zappa rehearsing the band 8 hours a day 5 days a week for a few months before embarking on a tour is how they did it. I heard that Zappa told the band to rehearse the entire set list in reggae. Not that they were going to perform that set list any given night entirely in reggae, but that Zappa just wanted them on their toes in case he wanted them to change up the tempo at his beckon call. *THAT* is how they did it. One of a kind composer and conducter. Viva Zappa!

At one point, I read that the cost of all the tape alone was valued at $2,000,000 - let alone the significant cost of putting all the content ON that tape, mixing, editing, and storage/maintenance... so certainly, a total value that is incalculable.

John Bidochka Yeah, too right, it must have cost millions of dollars to make all that art, and REAL dollars at that, not Mickey Mouse, 2016 dollars! But what I was referring to was the inherent value of all that music and film if it was released and marketed and sold nowadays.

There is no doubt of one thing about this man, once you could get past the initial rejection of what he was doing, he will force you to think and/or to listen in ways you never have before. I love how this ends with the end of the first half of burnt weeny sandwich. It's like how Frank's life was cut off - there was so much more yet to come, if we could just flip the record over..

Damn ...its really a pisser to experience negativity in creativity, I guess everyone needs more Cardie B ...and less talent

Black Napkins is NOT on 'Zappa in New York' 1976, the hot live video of 'Black Napkins' you see @29.00 is on the DVD "Baby Snakes" It's from a Halloween concert at The Palladium, NY in 1977. It exists in various video forms, that one is labeled "Frank Zappa - Black Napkins - Live at Palladium, NY 1977 (Remastered)" kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zq6AzMejntiyfZc.html I believe this hot "Muffin Man" video is from that same night, remastered and has the same confusing format breakdown. kzread.info/dash/bejne/enuKlduPadSagZc.html That concert (audio only) in CD & vinyl as "Live At The Palladium New York Halloween 1977" The original Baby Snakes DVD video was poor quality, but this recent remastering was an immense improvement Audio & Video!
