IMDB says "Baby Snakes" was released in 1979, which would appear to date this clip fairly precisely.

utterboxtv: First, that is NOT Casey Kasem interviewing Zappa. It is Alan Thicke. Second, Zappa is of mixed Sicilian, Greek, French, and Arabic descent, though I've never heard/read anyone attributing the Arabic portion of his heritage to any specific nationalitly, i.e. Lebanese, Egyptian, Algerian, or whatever. In one of the other vids here on YT he identifies himself as "Italian", probably due to the identification of his surname.

It took me a while to figure out Thicke's quip. Baseball icon Jim Palmer at the time did a major print ad for Jockey underwear posing in his briefs. Hence, the reference to Terry's stagewear in the clip. Frank not being very engaging in the interview, but the audience seemed to enjoy it.

Alan Thicke Show 1984

Alan Thicke always seemed to be one of those corporate shills, but a cool guy behind the scenes. I think this is true because he had Frank on his show, but more importantly, Frank agreed to do the show.

I tried to try to watch Thicke of The Night on many occasions but most of the time it seemed like the cast was on Xanax and it made Johnny Carson seem cutting edge.

utter: Try Googling what? I made three points in my previous post. With which one of them, exactly, do you disagree? As I wrote: Zappa himself, in a video interview available here on YT, identifies himself as "Italian". The nationalities I've listed as his heritage is taken from a documentary available here on KZread and Zappa's Wikipedia entry. Sorry, I don't have the titles of the videos on hand.

And, FYI, more persons on this post than just me have pointed that the interviewer is Alan Thicke. The title is wrong. Try Googling Alan Thicke and Casey Kasem yourself.

It's amazing how an audience so not use to being challenged or offered anything of real interest could appreciate Zappa. They gave someone as bland, unmemorable and stiff as Alan Thicke a career. Go figure.

Not as much as Alan Thicke!! He makes me ashamed of being Canadian.
