The interviewer has no idea that Zappa is fucking with him a bit about the "vibe". "I'm very conscious of the vibe...the vibe is so vital" . Yeah, that's what he thinks.

This is an excellent interview. And it's so nice to see how Frank, about halfway through, realizes that this guy is actually all right and not out to make fun of him. The ice immediately melts and the rest of the interview is very warm and friendly. That wasn't always the case!

Great interview! If you look at any interview with Frank, you'll notice how he sort of "tests" the interviewer first to see where they stand. I would say that his first responses to questions are sarcastic, but it's really more like comedic contempt. Anyway, it seems like if the interviewer can make him laugh, then they're "in", and he relaxes and becomes very charming and interested. And I think that's exactly what this interviewer does: He asks good questions, with a sense of humour. Great!

People get Frank's views on drugs totally wrong. He's not anti drug. He's anti drug for himself and anything that effects him personally. That is totally reasonable. Noone wants a junkie in their band fucking things up on multiple levels.

It's all good, body language perpetuating all the right signals, voices at an 'agreeable' phonetic. And a common interest between the two. The interviewer seems real nice, Zappa is Zappa of course, you have to be on a higher level to chat with him i think. Great post! Thanx!

One of the comments below accuses the host of being a "dipstick", well I disagree. You can see Frank relaxing and just having a good time mainly because the interviewer isn't a total dickhead and actually treats Frank with the respect he deserves. This guy's a saint compared to some of the know-nothing arseholes that have "interviewed" Frank over the years.

I'm surprised at the comments here. This was actually a very good interview. Mr. Boggs is very engaging with Frank, perhaps a bit naive, but remember he has to cater to his audience too. He asks Zappa some good questions, and as a result, gets very interesting answers.
