Juan, you might find a sense of Frank 'being here' if you read 'Freak Out! My Life with Frank Zappa 1968-1971'. It's my story but reveals Frank's home life not shown in other books from getting up to going to bed, rehearsing with the Mothers of Invention, composing at the piano, visiting rock stars, freaks, family squabbles, and more.

Hey there, Pauline! Politics aside, KZread stands alone in that it remains the foremost vanguard for newly unearthed archival videos like this one. I hope this can continue, but I have my doubts. On the other hand, I miss nothing about being active on Facebook except conversations I had with you and a few select others. I feel the need to say that I adore your writings about your time in the Zappa orbit, and my only issue with that book is that whenever I loaned it out to someone else, it never returned. I certainly understand those who need social media accounts for business reasons, but the censorship is so bad and so arbitrary that anyone who is remotely interesting is no longer tolerated. Plus, it's clear they're coming for everybody, eventually. I call it antisocial media, at this point. KZread is about all I do anymore. I follow someone on Twitch, but that organization is also infected on a corporate level. Pauline, I will happily take your advice and get the audio version of your book. I am taking a shot in the dark here. I saw zappa in Maine in the late 70,s if you were there you would remember this, even if you saw him 50 times. Some idiot threw a bottle and hit him in the shoulder. He stopped the show and had the house lights up and did not play until the person was identified and removed. Now comes the shot in the dark...after show we stayed at a Howard Johnson hotel near bye, I met zappa and his huge body gard in the hall 3 doors down. He said too me (the b.g. that is)you boy's have a good night and don't go knocking on mr zappa door or I'll have to break your fingers! We didn't. But the guitar and bass players came to our room to smoke up and relax. Some other guys from college were there as well. I wanted to know if you were there and remember there names? So many great players spent time with this man. Steve vi was one. I love music trivia

Sounds more like the product of your fertile imagination. The US for example: power is vested in a succession of major parties whose interests are only corporate lobbyists, a maintaining of the status quo, and appealing to the same pool of social conservatives, because it keeps the richest happy, and appeals to the majority of voters. Where amongst that system is any serious large-scale threat from 'the left'? Even protest movements blow over, and everyone goes back to beer and TV (or in this case, You Tube videos)

5:50 Flynt was a constitutional fundamentalist only when constitutional freedoms offered him a pathway to personal wealth and status. Is anyone improved by porn? Will you avoid answering that question by babbling about liberal freedoms? Look around you at America today and ask yourself if ordinary people are mentally fit to make beneficial use of personal freedom.

"Is anyone improved by porn?" Sex workers think so. For them, it's a way to make rent.

@@phideaux3 Are you approving porn or are you criticizing the current state of America in which it has become normalized for people to rent out their body holes to strangers to use like a public toilet while others pay to watch ?

“Is anyone improved by porn.” Let’s say for arguments sake, the answer is “no” (because I think that’s what you’re implying). So what? Do we only allow those freedoms that “improve” us? Since when is that the standard? I can think of a shit load of activities that don’t necessarily improve us, so what?

I worked for him in the corporate office. He was devoted to standing up for the First Amendment. He was kind & soft-spoken most of the time. He absolutely adored his wife Althea & was devastated by her death. During all the trials in the early 80’s he did actually go off the deep-end a little bit. He was dealing with excruciating pain from being shot. He did actually believe a lot of conspiracy theories, etc, but later in life he had a successful surgery that ended much of his terrible pain & his mind was much clearer. TBC, that was mainly because he stopped injecting himself with Demerol shots for the pain. I have to say there was never a dull moment working for him & I met many interesting people. My favorite was Timothy Leary. Larry should be remembered for how he stood up for Free Speech not just as a smut peddler as some people like to label him, BTW, those were usually Televangelists like Jerry Falwell who were probably more perverted than Larry ever was. 👀
