Ah yes, the sheer lyrical depth we all know and love from Frank.

Still better than 99% of metal lyrics
This one of my favorite Zappa pieces. That horn blat at just the right moment is a Great Moment in music. The music actually makes perfect sense, once you get used to the twists and turns -- just so energetic -- not jazz, not rock, not big band --- just amazing. So glad you finally got to this one, Justin!

One I definitely keep coming back to! Lots of moving parts, a bit of cacophony, and some fabulous riffs!
I love Zappa. I named my cat Cletus Awreetus Awrightus. Cletus for short.
The next two songs are the album highlights for me. George Duke is excellent on "Eat That Question", and "Blessed Relief" is a melodic jazz piece which contrasts much of the music before, featuring a nice guitar solo.
And they chant “Awreetus Airits Aureetus Cletus”.been -laying this since it came out and it still makes me smile.
This is one of Zappa's best written peices IMHO. Also... I've always seen this as a well disguised sequel to Peaches En Regalia.
Now I know where Sufjan got his Age of Adz horn inspiration from.
AHHHHH!!! You got to it! If you listen to it again, and perhaps a third time I think you'd find that the brass arrangement in particular is imaginatively and creatively done in ways that you never hear those brass instruments usually playing. I love the energy, the tempo and the (I'll call it) euphoria of the track. This is a celebration and a proclamation.
An alltime favorite , splendid!
Probably the funniest instrumental track ever.
If you played this for a 6 year old, They'd probably love it... Hell, I'm 63 and I love It!!
You think the Canterbury guys in Britain were listening to Frank? This has that whimsy the Canterbury bands play at times. Crazy! Brilliance! Mind boggling!!
One of my favorite Zappa songs, in my top 5 or 10. If someone were to ask me what Zappa is all about in 5 minutes or less, I'd play them this track.

The arrangement of the brass is brilliant. What makes me love it is that the horns are being asked to play in ways that they normally wouldn't in a piece of music. The "honking" in particular, I'll call it. And where have you heard a brass arrangement that lively or energetic before? I'm guessing nowhere, and I love brass in pop and rock music, always have. Agreed on top 5 Zappa tracks for me with Peaches (of course), Orange County Lumber Truck, Muffin Man...
i always wished frank would have covered that christmas song with the "rump bum bum bum"
You're going to love the last two tracks on this album.
Thanks, JP
I'm glad you finally got around to playing this album. I've been following Zappa's music since 1971. His instrumental pieces are my favorites. This album is number one on the list. Enjoy!!
Jazzit-Trip... JP, When you are done with this Album you should try some Billy Cobham. A great Album called Total Eclipse, and a great tune called "Sea of Tranquility"...
Another Genius composition from MY GOD.

Frank, once again asking the question - "Does humor belong in music?"
Эта композиция - настоящий кайф для меломана. Такое мог сочинить только эклектичный композитор Заппа.
Please do "Skeik Yerbouti" which is amazing and inspired or 80's Zappa albums like "You are what you is" 😊
Especially from this song I can see connections to Samla Mammas Manna. But of course: this was first.
Awright, awright, awright!!! It's a most 'horny' morning! 'Bout time you brought Frank back. Peace & Love.
From an astute comment on Frank: "Only people with very steady nerves and strong stomachs can put up with how relentlessly annoying he is. So why, you ask, do we put up with him? It’s masochism, I tell you. Pure masochism. I mean, I could try and put into words what it is that I get from listening to Zappa flogging a Stratocaster, or why his utter refusal to tolerate sentimentality sometimes feels like a good and healthy thing, but isn’t the best explanation that I am simply dead inside? An empty husk, incapable of awe and reverence, a brutalised parody of a human, insensitive to kittens, hugs and gladioli. Yeah, that looks like it’ll work. Let’s go with that. No, you really don’t want to get into Zappa. You don’t want to end up like me. Save yourself, before it’s too late. Don’t listen to Zappa. You will not come out the same way as you were before".

A good try, but isn't Ruben and the Jets sentimental - at least sort of...

After listening to Zappa, I find "normal" pop music masochistic to listen to.

To me, this is one of the lesser Zappa albums. But I do appreciate Frank being silly.
I like frank but he can get a bit samey. this was ok but i just felt i'd heard it (from him) before. it was alright.

I don't think I've really listened to him in about twenty years. I guess I'm long over the "humorous" irreverence and pointless twiddly diddly pretentions.

@@pentagrammaton6793These day there's really only one of his i do listen to with any regularity. And you may've seen me propose it here for a long song type of play, and that's FZ's double live LP Roxy and Elsewhere. That never gets old, to me :)
