Lyrics
Blacking in and out in a strange flat in east London
Somebody I don't really know just gave me something
To help settle me down and to stop me from always thinking about you
And you know your life is heading in a questionable direction
When you're up for days with strangers and you can't remember anything
Except the way you sounded when you told me you didn't know what I should do
It's a long road up to recovery from here
A long way back to the light
A long road up to recovery from here
A long way to making it right
And I've been waking in the morning just like every other day
And just like every boring blues song I get swallowed by the pain
And so I fumble for your figure in the darkness just to make it go away
But you're not lying there any longer
And I know that that's my fault
So I've been pounding on the floor and
I've been crawling up the walls
And I've been dipping in my darkness with Serotonin-boosters
Cider and some kind of smelling salts!
It's a long road up to recovery from here
A long way back to the light
A long road up to recovery from here
A long way to making it right
And on the first night we met you said, "Well darling, let's make a deal
If anybody ever asks us let's just tell them that we met in jail."
And that's the story that I'm sticking to like a stony-faced accomplice
But tonight I need to hear some truth if I'm ever getting through this
Yeah you once sent me a letter that said, "If you're lost at sea
Close your eyes and catch the tide my dear and only think of me"
Well, darling, now I'm sinking, and I'm as lost as lost can be
And I was hoping you could drag me up from down here towards my recovery
If you could just give me a sign, just a subtle little glimmer
Some suggestion that you'd have me if I could only make me better
Then I would stand a little stronger as I walk a little taller
All the time
Because I know you are a cynic
But I think I can convince you
Yeah, cause broken people can get better if they really want to
Or at least that's what I have to tell myself if I am hoping to
Survive!
It's a long road up to recovery from here
A long way back to the light
A long road up to recovery from here
A long way to making it right
Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover?
Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover?
Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover?
Darling, sweet lover, one day this will all be over

Izzy Beth your breaking my heart. I was a lead singer for decades, been on top of the world, so many people patting me on the back to lowest of lows. As someone who's suffered brutal addictions for decades but never gave up even in the lowest depressing times I somehow made it out by the grace of God and a lot of praying for help from above. ( listen to Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd) and getting help. Life's not easy it's brutal but it can also be beautiful and amazing and peaceful once you're out of that s*** hole state. Your not alone. Your life is of 'exceptional' value and worth! So don't give up. Please. Never met you but I love you. JHVH God loves you. I feel your pain I'm pretty sure I know your pain cuz I've been close to ending it all and if I didn't end it personally,, the drugs mixed with alcohol, or the drug addicts, physcos/ dealers nearly nearly did. Not sure what you're on or what you're doing but get yourself some help and talk to a mature person who you trust. If you're a female which I think you are then talk to a mature trustworthy female. If drugs like opiods the kill thousands every day get immediate DETOX OR YOU WILL DIE. FACT. Not all but some men can take advantage of a girl in a vulnerable position and make things a million times worse by their selfish disgusting abhorrent greedy actions. Please be safe Izzy B. Please also go to jw org for spiritual, mental healing and guidance. Type in ANY topic in the search bar for wisdom. It's also in over 1,000 languages more than any other on the planet to get the good news though that there's a beautiful hope for the future for those that put their faith in God and what he soon about to do for faithful loyal humans living morally clean lives
This is one of the most important songs in my life. 2013, I was getting myself together recovering from 10 years of depression and drug use. I found a purpose, a new path and started a new life. Now, ten years later, it's all fallen apart. I listened to this again today and remembered that "broken people can get better if they really want to". God, I want to.

I got home from work tonight and popped on the radio in this song came on and it caught my attention because I'm a singer-songwriter musician for over 30 years in Canada and I was like wow this is a great catchy tune so I looked him up on KZread and net,,,of course this is what I do when you hear something really like and wow I was truly Blown Away by The Poetry and Genius of this songs lyrics, melody, so true to life. Especially myself who suffered with brutal addictions for decades being lead singer of band, it's still daily battle and I know so many who have suffered and who have died as I'm sure you do,,, so Props to Frank! for putting it into words and also you know losing my love as well,,,that's part of the song too! like he puts it all in there there's just so much I'm just scratching the surface here cuz I don't have time but it's really an amazing catchy tune. One you just want to crank up on your headphones and jump and dance around and get it all out GET IT ALL OUT with tears if need be. There is nothing wrong with a man crying in fact it's healthy the ones that don't hold it all in and extremely bitter and messed up it got to let it out once in awhile it's completely normal and healthy and good to do there's a lot of Science and experts that back this up. This isn't the 1950s anymore where men held it all in and just beat their wives. They ended up having miserable lives. Give er' a good ol' cry every now and again. It's healthy. You'll be healthier and happier! Well proven. So after a little man balling😭leting out the pain,,,cool tune like this then just relax and have a nice nap , SIESTA for my Spanish folks out there😅 ,,,,,,,in total and complete peace. ✌️ out.
I don't understand how this song has barely over 2 million views. In my opinion one of the best and most unique songs on the air right now.

Just saw him live today in Milwaukee. Best little show ever.
I’m 21. I was getting my hair cut maybe 5 months ago, and my barber mentioned the song “Get better” and told me I should listen to it. I added that song on Spotify and listened to it, but it was t until last week I visited the creator of that song’s page, Frank Turner. I clicked on Recovery and about 20 seconds into the song I Remembered it. From the back of my memory was sitting this song, for maybe about 10 years. I remember this song so vividly, to the point I don’t understand how I forgot about. I used to love this song, when I was 12, and I’m 21 now. This song means more to me than it did back then, at least now I can understand the lyrics and lap them over my own problems. Banger song, shout out to my barber for putting me back onto this fuckin heat

Recovering drug and alcoholic here been through hell and back to many times to count..... should have been dead several times long ago like many of the people I used to know who are gone.....but some of us survived,,,,you and I are still here Tim... We're still here. Think about that. Were not dead yet. I say we give er' my friend!!! Drag ourselves outta bed, as hard as that is,,,, and see where the day takes us.... I indephly studied history religion and science for decades for the sake of figuring out life. I study dozens of religions Hinduism Buddhism Sikhism Shintoism Taoism , and they all had nothing to offer the only people that were actually doing and living the truth and the scripture in the Bible where JW's and the conclusion that I,many colleagues and countless others come to are these few verses from God; Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, And do not rely on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways take notice of him, And he will make your paths straight. 7 Do not become wise in your own eyes. Fear Jehovah and turn away from bad. 8 It will be a healing to your body And refreshment for your bones. Proverbs 3: 5-8 Jw org *Jehovah is the personal name of God as revealed in the Bible. Words like Lord and God are simply titles. Psalm 83:18. Never fails to lift my spirits, make me cry, and remind me to stay alive, all in one go, every single time. Thank you, Frank. So much.

I remember the first time I ever heard this song. I live in America and when they played this on the radio at like 8 AM on a saturday in april, it was the first I'd ever heard of Frank Turner. Just saw him in Charlotte last friday. I don't know what Courtney Rishere is smoking, it was the best concert i'd ever been to. I just wish i'd known about him earlier, he's a damn good musician
Not just a "break-up song," I think. The lyrics really focus on the fact that his ("his"?) addiction caused the break-up and the loss of his relationships. It's him recognizing this aspect of himself & asking for help.
I heard this on the local AAA radio station earlier. My finger hovered on the button for the first few seconds...but when the chorus hit my jaw dropped. Brilliant! What a crisp, refreshing energy Frank Turner has. With all the junk on the radio today and my advancing age (almost 31), it's hard to get that same rush from new rock that I used to get, but the bounce of this tune is unavoidable. Why have I never heard of this guy before?

Frank's music has helped me so much for the past few years with my emotional issues and even influenced me to produce my own music (even though it's not really much like his in terms of style). Now that I've started uploading my songs onto my channel, I can only thank him for helping me out all this time.
My best friend use to blast this song from her car when we went on road trips or to find a Sunday carvery. I miss you terribly :'(
This song belongs in the 90's! and that's a great thing!!!!
"I don't know what Courtney Rishere is smoking, it was the best concert i'd ever been to." Same here. I saw him last week for the first time and it took days to recover from how mind-blowing it was.
Such an underated talent
"Broken people can get better if they really want to..." I see this song in the context of my struggles with bipolar and anxiety disorder. I've lost some "friends" over it, but luckily kept many who help me when things are tough. It's really hard to find the right combination of drugs and therapy to get better, but the struggle is worth it when I feel like a whole person again.

As usual, a Brit writes incredibly literate lyrics and a GREAT song. Speaking from the US, thank god for an almost thousand year history of great British songwriting from madrigals to the present day. Dear iKirsty The road to recovery has a map. The map can only be seen and found when you look inside and be truly honest with you, yourself and the universe. Peace out and bless up xx
I just heard this on 88.3 in Kitchener-Waterloo and man what an AWESOME catchy tune! These lyrics! Its like Frank's been following me around throughout my 20's and 30's😅😅
I think few musicians can be truly described as "Wordsmiths", but this man is one of them. An epic tune; I swear I'm already addicited to it (and I only heard it for the first time yesterday!)
Lyrics Blacking in and out in a strange flat in east London Somebody I don't really know just gave me something to help Set me down and stop me always thinking about you And you know your life is heading in a questionable Direction when you're off in days with strangers And you can't remember anything except way you sound When you told me you didn't know what I should do It's a long road out to recovery from here, A long way back to the light A long road out to recovery from here, A long way to make it right And so I wake up in the morning just like every other day And just like every boring blues song I get swallowed by the pain, And so I fumble for your figure in the darkness just to make it go away But you're not lying there any longer and I know That it's my fault so I been pounding on the floor And I've been crawling up the walls and I've been divvying my darkness And Serotonin boosters, cider and some kind of smelling salts It's a long road out to recovery from here, A long way back to the light A long road out to recovery from here, A long way to make it right So on the first night we met you said well darling let's make a deal, If anybody ever asks us well let's say that we met in jail And that's the story that I'm sticking to like A southern face that comforts but today I need to hear Some truth if I'm ever getting through this Yea you once sent me a letter that said if I was lost at sea Close my eyes and catch a time idea and only think of me Well darling now I'm sinking I'm as lost as Lost can be and I'm hoping you can drag me Off and down and out to my recovery If you could just give me a sign and just a subtle little glimmer, A suggestion that you'd have me if I could only make me better Then I'd stand a little stronger as I walk a little taller all the time 'Cause I know that you are cynical but I think I can convince you yea 'cause broken people Can get better if they really want to Or at least that's what I have to tell myself if I'm hoping to survive It's a long road out to recovery from here, A long way back to the light A long road out to recovery from here, A long way back to whats right Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover, Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover, Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover, Darling, sweet lover, one day this will all be over

Franz Ferdinand - take me out
I don't know what this song is really about. But everytime I listen to it, I feel so much less lonely.
One of the few redeeming features of Watch Dogs Legion was that it included this song on the radio.
Anyone else watching this because they heard it on watch dogs legion
This song came on as I was looking through the Rape Survivor's Legal Guide- dumb that it made me smile but it did eh :)

Hannah Solomon hey I hope you’re doing better now
Everything about this song is absolutely perfect! There is no doubt that this is a hit!
I remember hearing this song years ago but only the beginning London part because my dad would always change the radio, but I've always had a fascination with Europe so I looked for this song for months and finally found it.
