Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls performed at RiotFest 2012. I was 16 years old and my friends all left in different directions and I found myself in the middle of Humboldt Park, Chicago, lying in the middle of a field of grass surrounded by a thick crowd and these guys playing up onstage. So I tossed down my Chrome messenger bag and laid with my head on it and listened to them play. And for some reason that moment sticks out in my head really hard.

Seeing Frank all alone is the way to do it. I've gone three times by myself now. The first was because some friends who had tickets had to bail at the last minute. I went anyway and realized it's way, way more fun to fly solo and just enjoy the experience with the new friends you inevitably make around you.

had this played at my wedding a few months ago, not the first dance my wife chose kc and jo jo lol, but it was played later on at my request. Not many people had a clue what it was apart from me my wife and some of my mates, well we danced and sung our asses off, every lyric in the song seems so apt as we are all pushing 30 and having kids, getting married etc. The day was amazing but that 4 minutes will always be one of my fondest memories of the day.

Like many others have pointed out. So, Frank had a good education and was lucky enough to be born without struggling. As a working class bloke born and bred it's what we'd all want for our kids isn't it? He has always seemed like a very down to Earth bloke and good luck to him. His lyrics are fiery and intelligent. If young people like Frank and actually listen to his songs and take note, then the World may end up a better place. I might get looked after when I finally get to retire too :)

Every time I see that this song sits in my kids' playlists, I know I've done something right.
I love that feeling when you know you've just discovered an artist that you're going to love
You deserve every hour of the sleepless nights that you waste wondering when you're going to die. This man is one of the greatest lyricists alive.

Frank Turner is so fucking great
I remember him playing this; the whole crowd was singing along, shouting and cheering and Frank was smiling away and playing. It's great to see an artist enjoying himself, having that connection with his audience and letting the music speak for itself.
I remember listening to this when I was 15. I'm 26 now. I feel like everything has changed, and nothing has changed.
If you play this backwards, it's a song about respiration.

This song sums up exactly my life right now. Everyone around me getting married and having kids..fine with me, but not my way. Good to see I'm not the only one. Until I heard this song I was thinking maybe I am. That's the price one pays after traveling the world for 9 years then returning to a grim reality.

Yesterday (3.10.2010) he visit my City ( Poznań in the middle of Polnad ) That was koncert for less then100 people. Amazing music, great time, magnificent Frank!! Frank Turner - thank you for this. We love you !!!!!
Saw him in myrtle beach house of blues on saturday w/ flogging molly. Needless to say, I am now a HUGE fan. Had never heard of him before that and now I can't get enough of his music!
Saw Frank at the Cambridge Union two weeks ago; he's such an honest and unpretentious guy, not afraid to be upfront about what he thinks. Reflects in his amazing music.
Has anyone thought about redoing the video now with all the "grown up" kids?

frank I don't smoke a lot, but when I do, its so much better listening to you.
I am in love with this man.
I got introduced to Frank Turner by my friends in Look Mexico. I wasn't familiar with his music at the time. I am now. All I can say is that he is a genuine gentleman, a down to earth good guy, and an inspiring & moving musician. I'm digging what he does!

this guy is my hero he puts a lot of people to shame that work in the music. he always finds new ways to market his music and still become a musical icon, people like henry rollins and Joe strummer would be proud. I can't wait to see frank in northern Ireland in September and I'm coming all the way from Crewe. thanks frank :)

doesn't it break your heart to see the glimpses of the kids sensing that they're doing something naughty by singing along in the chorus? how early do people get taught to feel guilty about self-affirmation, free expression and non-conformity? thank your stars for Frank and this song - he's a hero

had this played at my wedding a few months ago, not the first dance my wife chose kc and jo jo lol, but it was played later on at my request. Not many people had a clue what it was apart from me my wife and some of my mates, well we danced and sung our asses off, every lyric in the song seems so apt as we are all pushing 30 and having kids, getting married etc. The day was amazing but that 4 minutes will always be one of my fondest memories of the day.
I discovered Frank Turner's music 3 days ago. I haven't listened to anything else since then. I'm so in love with his voice, it's crazy.

I first discovered Frank Turner through Million Dead, possibly the best British Punk band ever, then I found out they'd disbanded. :( Found out that Frank Turner was going solo, and just got a feeling, the kind of feeling that you get when you just know something's going to be amazing. I wasn't wrong! He has such a way with words, and the passion he puts into singing, I don't really know how to word it . . . Mind blowing? Awe inspiring? Easily my favorite acoustic artist EVER.
Even when I am blue, this song makes me smile. Thank you Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls!
Well I guess I should confess that I am starting to get old All the latest music fads all passed me by and left me cold All the kids are talking slang I won't pretend to understand All my friends are getting married, mortagages and pension plans And it's obvious my angry adolescent days are done And I'm happy and I'm settled in the person I've become But that doesn't mean I'm settled up and sitting out the game Time may change a lot but some things may stay the same And I won't sit down And I won't shut up And most of all I will not grow up And I won't sit down And I won't shut up And most of all I yeah I won't grow up Oh maturity's a wrapped up package deal so it seems And ditching teenage fantasy means ditching all your dreams All your friends and peers and family solemnly tell you you will Have to grow up be an adult yeah be bored and unfulfilled Oh when no ones yet explained to me exactly what's so great About slaving 50 years away on something that you hate Look I'm meekly shuffling down the path of mediocrity Well if that's your road then take it but it's not the road for me And I won't sit down And I won't shut up And most of all I will not grow up And I won't sit down And I won't shut up And most of all I yeah I won't grow up And I won't sit down And I won't shut up And most of all I will not grow up And if all you ever do with your life Is photosynthesize Then you deserve every hour of these sleepless nights That you waste wondering when you're gonna die Now I'll play and you sing The perfect way for the evening to begin Now I'll play and you sing The perfect way for the evening to begin And I won't sit down And I won't shut up And most of all yeah I won't grow up And I won't sit down And I won't shut up And most of all I will not grow up And I won't sit down And I won't shut up And most of all I will not grow up

Have loved Frank since my son introduced me to him in 2010 and particularly love this song. How many people know the teacher is Frank's Mum???
This is such a heartwarming video, and song.
This was an accidental stumble on this song, and very lucky. As an adult that is constantly being told to grow up and act my age I laughed as a lot of this song reminds me of my responses to "normal responsible" adults
I watch this through happy smiling eyes...... My 7 yr old is clappin' hands in the back seat....... Thanks Frank........forever young...

Great song and great video. I'm 27 so the words ring very true to me.
I never post on KZread but in the last 24 hours have felt compelled to do it more than a few times to Frank Turner songs. Haven't felt since I was a teenager that songs were speaking the words in my heart more. I now remember what it's like when music really resonates with you again! This is going to be my anthem for a while I think. I WON'T SIT DOWN, I WON'T SHUT UP AND MOST OF ALL I WON'T GROW UP!
I screamed this song top of my lungs with my pal in trafalgar on my 21st I WILL NOT GROW UP!!!!
It has been literally years since I've been this excited about finding a new artist. Thank you so much Frank for being such a fucking awesome musician.
I love this , Cheers Frank
