I was very fortunate to see Frank 12 times including Carnegie Hall. I saw him at Radio City, Forest Hills, Long Island Coliseum, Caesar’s Palace, etc. The energy of him just walking on to the stage with no introduction was palpable. I was enthralled with every performance. The last I saw him was at a private concert in Cincinnati in I believe Christmas time 1993. He was not on top of his game but he was amazing. Pete Hamill once said that seeing Sinatra towards the end was like seeing the Coliseum in Rome, sure it’s old and beat up but it is still magnificent! Thank you Frances Albert for so much joy. You were the greatest!

What a great post.
Just a man in a tux with a band. No fireworks, no flashy gimmicks, for a man singing songs decades old and I bet the cheapest seat in the house cost about $1,000. That's true talent right there. Respect Frank, only regret is I'll never get to see you perform.

+BlazerManiacNumber96 I saw him perform, and he was great. A true showman who knew how to entertain, not just sing.

Francis would often just walk on without any fanfare. I saw him in my country, but to see him in NYC would have been the ultimate experience, or perhaps in London.

TheCliffPhilShow Geez, lucky you. I only saw him twice. The first time, Sam outshone both Frank and Liza, Sam was so damned good that night. The 2nd time Frank was 75 and Sam had gone, it was '91 and he was with Steve and Eydie, needing a helping hand, vocally speaking. Steve Lawrence said to Frank: you sit back and do Milli Vanill (miming) and leave this one up to us. Eydie Gorme did sing something which she said was written by Frank Sinatra, I forgot what it was.

There will never be another Frank Sinatra.
Frank Sinatra singing New York, New York is simply - utter coolness & class personified
"I want to be a part of it, in old New York...", some of the finest lyrics I've ever heard.

His lyrics had very often some changes, or added words, etc... Maybe sometimes he got confused, maybe sometimes he did it on purpose, we can se both here in the same song, but he always, always, always, managed that in a unique style, he was the best.
Man, what a legend hes just absolutely timeless.
I've watched numerous Sinatra live performances and I understand fans may prefer one specific live performance of a song over another. However, if you had the charisma, style and timelessness of Frank Sinatra, he could pretty much "belch" New York, New York and the die hard fans would say it was a unique version. I think the biggest lesson taken away from every performance is that he never stops enjoying his performances--he is happy, confident, grateful, sometimes even goofy or changing the lyrics. But above all, he's still having fun. I hope I can have the same spirit about life when I reach that age.
I hate seeing these dislikes on all Sinatra's songs. It's just best too ignore these haters who have hate for other people because the people who like his music knows it's good and that's what counts.
It was on this day, March 14, in 1998; that an icon in the music and entertainment industry departed his corporal body. Frank Sinatra was just a skinny Italian boy from Hoboken, NewJersey who wanted to sing. His career is full of magic in both his music and his personality. One thing is for sure, Frank Sinatra will be remembered in the same category as Elvis, Michael Jackson and other artists that changed not just music but ourselves, too.

This brings back wonderful memories of seeing Frank for the first time in London in September 1980. I cried when he came on stage. One of the best days of my life and there have been many, many good ones.
The Best Singer, singing about the Best City.Mmmmmmmm
That’s how it’s done live the best of the best
Wonderful, clear voice. Love Frank's voice and this is a great song.
This song for me will forever remind me of some of the greatest Yankee wins i have ever seen. Nothing makes me feel better then when this plays at Yankee stadium after the Yankees inflict a tough loss on the Red Sox and i get to see the looks on red sox players faces. Lets go Yankees we need to hear this song alot in 2016.

This is pure class. I may be young, for me this timeless music from an era where the songs were big, and artists dressed in keeping with that era.
I grew up with that classic song in 70s./80s in NYC. Classic 2020?!!
AWESOME...Thank you got posting this superb share.
I love this song one of my favorites.
I just love this performance..
Lookup Sinatra New York 1990 he sings this it's bad quality and done by a handheld camcorder but if you listen close to just his voice it's the best he's ever sang this song, period. He gave it literally his all in that particular performance. You can really feel it it's so emotional the crowd goes crazy
What a voice !!! Legend ....
The man❤ The myth❤ The legend ❤ The VOICE ❤
Frank, his songs are timeless!
I miss this, but I'm glad to have lived through his signing! and movies too!

Remember New York, we are stronger together and we are together. You are not alone. Stay strong!! Greetings from eastern Pennsylvania.
Love it!
He was a great fond of the country where he was born. Chicago, New York, America. Lucky country having a son like him
I still get goosebumps !!!
As always, perfect tempo, brilliant enunciation, and an exceptional performance. Nothing less from Francis Albert Sinatra.
I saw him in Phoenix, December of '93 just days before his birthday; the whole audience sang "Happy Birthday" to him. One very memorable night.
I used to take a lot of day trips into New York City. However, since this coronavirus exploded, I haven’t been able to it. I miss New York so much it hurts. It is a grand city and it has everything. It is my favorite city.
he was a GREAT performer.
So much class, elegance to the bone
His best tune by far. I remember when it came out and was on the radio way back in the day. It was the first Sinatra song I really liked, and that lead to a greater appreciation for his talents.
sensacional y majestoso
Sinatra's Voice is forever! I'd loved his songs since I was on my teens!
What could I say about The Voice, about his greatest iconic song, just listen, and listen, and enjoying his performance.Frank forever

Sinatra.... INESQUECÍVEL!
Sheer Greatness.....a legend
This song in the 1970s, when New York City was taking it on the chin, took the city off the ropes and began to stand up. By 1980 in Carnegie Hall when Sinatra began to sing it - and the Yankees began to win again - the city got its legs again. (This is not a sports comment but a cultural one.) People remembered why New York was important and, well, lovely. Here's to you Frankie (as my Mom used to call him).
@TrafficNetworkGroup wish he had a show now in Vegas..I'd get a front row seat!
I love New York
look what he did in his life, sings New York = Instant Classic. Chicago = Somewhat less Classic, but Still classic. Paris = Classic. Everything he sang turned to gold as far as im concerned
dang, all of them in this time are old and still playing.
studio version entered Billboard May 3, 1980 ..reached #32 (his last top 40 single).
legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't lie, no one can resist waving their hand around singing this song.
@lolr66 Hey pal, I was there the week after this show -- 12th row -- the guy never left the stage for a full 90 minute show. It was truly a spectacular show. Drunk? I don't think so. Sinatra was a true professional entertainer.
The best version
Sinatra was great live!! He had the magic!!
eterno!!!
Most people say this is his Greatests Song
spettacolo
This was an "early" live version of New York, New York" by Sinatra....it had come out only recently by the time of this 1980 concert (song came out in 1979) and he had not yet developed or "fleshed it out" it into the big, brash show closer it became (info about this can be found in several books on Sinatra songs). So...while he is great as usual here, his later performances of it are more grand and swinging with even more put into it by Sinatra with his showmanship.
No one did like Frank, amazing....
Ah the memory slips - he sounds good though. 79-80 was a late peak - saw him in 79 in San Francisco at Masonic Temple, first time he had been to SF in decades - seemed to be having the time of his life, and he was in fine, fine voice. A thrilling concert.
Regret....I never saw him sing in person. Such a great entertainer.
