I was born in 1963 and my parents brought me up on this amazing music, along with Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Judy Garland, Duke Ellington and so many more great legends. I have very little in the way of material wealth but I am rich beyond belief in terms of music upbringing.

I really miss the rat pack and entertainment from those days! So much better than today! ❤️
These comments could go on forever. I’m 58 years old but I miss the days of the roast and all those incredible stars and Dean and Frank and Sammy. It’s so sad that they are all gone. From flip Wilson to orson wells. The days of the night clubs and the old Vegas are gone..
AND when Ava died at 67, Sinatra paid for her funeral. He loved her.
Hey Tony Bennett I worked at the Fairmont Hotel in S.F roomservice order taker. He called and I said Tony sing me something 🎉He sang all of I left My Heart in San Francisco Beautiful experience for me. But I love Frankie Dino and Sammy very much All the Best

Kudos to the excellent narration of this doc, by the late great Danny Aiello. 😎
Thank God for these videos as it reminds us how talented musicians are and the legacy they all left. Love Dean Martin, a true classy man. 🙏🌸
Dean Martin the epitome of cool, great music, loved the Dean Martin Show and Roasts. Once did a show and some folks very kindly came to me at the bar, after I had finished and asked did I have a cd they could buy, I simply said buy the Dean Martin ones, he does it better 😊
Frank Dino and Sammy are all equal to me and a recipe of sheer talent and all on my i-tunes and all get played equally over my 5 hour trips to work and home each rotation i go to work 🙏🙏👏👏😊😊
…..sad for me that I did not get a chance to meet these wonderful performers….but I treasure these recordings….thank you….😘💋❤
Dean is my favorite, the best voice out of them all, IMO, and Sammy had incredible talent, singer, dancer, actor, comedian, musician, and he could handle a pistol, quick draw, twirling etc, I like the others, but Dean and Sammy are my favirites

WOW. That's the ultimate meaning of "the good ole days" Post war years between 1945 and the 1970. That's only 25 years where so much happened in those 25 years. Before the beginning of the current state of affairs.
I worked in LV where Frank and the rat pack were at the Sands Hotel and when Frank was in town there was no other show people wanted to go to see the same with Elvis. I met them both and miss this time never to return again and when Frank dog was hit by a car he was so angry and sad.

Just WONDERFUL!!!
For me, Dean Martin was by far the best singer and the most entertaining. Sammy Davis Jnr was a dazzling one man talent show, and Sinatra I'd put in third place, mainly for his ability to create a mood when singing.

Fantastic documentary
Thanks for the Information about Frank Sinatra, but quite frankly I am and have always been a Dean Martin Fan First and Foremost. Dean is a much better singer in my opinion, oh and not only that, but my dogs have always loved to hear Dean's Music on the Stereo, they chill out, and relax, and snooze all the while looking totally happy, and content, by Deans smooth, sexy, dreamy and velvety voice. AND TRUST ME WHEN I SAY THAT, "SINATRA CAN'T TOUCH DEANO OR HOLD A CANDLE TO DEANO, BECAUSE DEANO RULES !!!"
@johngalvin3124

I'm with you, only one Dean Martin, totally unique voice. Sinatra was an ordinary singer living on a very debatable reputation as some kind of tough guy friend of mobsters, but he could create a mood on stage. In reality the tough guy was Dean, a very good boxer ( Kid Crochetti) , an ex-card sharp and utterly fearless.
I LOVE DEAN MARTIN ❤❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥💗❤️❤️💗💓💓💓💕💜💜💜💜💜💜👍❣️❤️💗💗❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
When growing up, two pictures were in every Italian kitchen, the Pope and Frank Sinatra. I grew up in NJ, near Hoboken as most of my family were from so Frank was a God. When my friends were smoking pot, I was drinking Jack Daniels...underage of course. Whenever I am in Palm Springs, I drive past his place, They are reconstructing Dean's place after many years of being neglected, and I am happy finally it will no longer be an eyesore.
Scorsese has been looking of a way to tell this story. This documentary narrates it brilliantly. The contrasting ups and downs of the main players. Scorsese should get a writer involved with THIS documentary.

@@MrThedonhead Soderbergh's version of Ocean's 11 is admittedly a better produced film but both iterations have their plus points. A modern cast, modern sensibilities, modern storytelling, modern editing techniques...it's bound to be an improvement. But like most things, its always down to personal preference whether it improves on the original. We feel both films can be wholly enjoyed independently of each other and can't really be compared.

How could it be comparable the remakes to the original! With respect to other opinions, In every case, original is best. (my view)
So let's be honest, they were ALL great in their own way, not one of them was without talent, some more, some less BUT the greatest talent of all was hands down The Chairman of the Board! Just listen to Angie :-))

“Sinatra achieved instant success.” Yeah, well I hope he thanked his mommy. 🙄 Dean didn’t have instant success, and instead he paid his dues and despite the hurdles managed to overcome them by sheer talent and determination. And he could actually sing. He was so cool and genuine. He was charming and handsome. He was everything Sinatra wasn’t.

Don't think you really know much about Frank Sinatra. 1) He may have had success pretty early on but believe me he paid his dues during those terrible dark years, 2) Every woman who ever dated him said he was perhaps the most charming man they had ever dated. I love Dean too for all the obvious reasons but there is a reason why Frank is STILL number one!

Sammy was the most talented of the Rat Pack.
My youngest Kelly was 2 the day President John F. Kennedy was killed! I was in Enumclaw buying him a little red rocking chair and didn't hear the news until we got back home and I turned the TV on. What a shock it was! Then several years later 9-11 happened on my oldest son Jerry's 45 birthday! I have said that hopefully nothing as devesting will never happen to our country again because they are my only boys! Thank GOD nothing that bad happened on my daughter Karin's birthday! That is something I can never forget!

I'm no fan of organised crime, but Sinatra was a loyal friend to those who had helped him. He stuck by them, and to me that makes him an honourable man. The fifties' 'Rat Pack' was a great idea -- talented men who banded together and entertained people .. I don't see and can't imagine any modern day equivalent to them.

Sinatra s love n 2nd wife Ava Gardner called his friends the rat pack. She broke his heart n thats why he could sing those sad songs.
@deanmartinassociation

The moniker "Rat Pack" predated Ava and was attributed to Lauren Bacall, talking about her husband's group of friends, rather than Sinatra. When Sinatra stepped up to replace Bogart, the Rat Pack name stuck but Sinatra never accepted it, being more of a label used by the Press. Sinatra would prefer "The Clan". But whatever the reason for the name, it definitely predated Ava.
How I loved the rat pack and miss them. Especially, the chairman of the board
They set the precedent for .. boy bands.. they were talented though.. all of them. Put Las Vegas on the map....they added comedy, sketches, and entertainment...movies, clubs, ....had the women.. and supported musicians who got their break..

I tell you -MM was weak in her stature, subject.of much tabloid gossip, and facing Liz Taylor's huge presence. In her shoes I'd have leapt at the chance to sing for an PRESIDENT!
Not to take nuthin' from the ratty theme of this excellent showcase, but the big band background keeps this listener straining to pick up the tunes. Musical director chose some great material.
0:31 🧐What Pack?
Dino did have the better voice but there were others who had better voices Tony Bennett, Jerry Vale, Perry Como Jimmy Rosselli and lots more. But The Chairman had a way to sing a song that was unique, his tone was pure he just had a way of phrasing the words that made you love him. I saw the Pack in Vegas 4 times and saw Sinatra 14 times in concerts. Those were the days that I will never forget.

The word "Legend" is thrown around today as if it were a bit of street talk or a tag to describe anybody who's basically done anything of note, but these people became legit legends in their lifetime, and today haven't lost one ounce of their legendary status. This was close to 80 years ago - their individual careers began sooner of course, but these people are bone fide legends. Sinatra's name in particular is one of the most "legendary" in all of the entertainment industry, and that won't change. 80 years from now when we're all gone and mostly forgotten, these people will still be legends. Centuries after their deaths, Wagner, Mozart, Van Gogh, Da Vinci...still spoken about, and the same will be true of the Rat Pack as they broke the mould, and it's only fitting that history remembers them.
