So Bertuzzi and Brodie's cap hit together will open up 10.5 M in cap space to sign a D. Skjei, Pesce and Montour are free agents July 1. The cap is also going up. The Leafs can also replace Samsonov with a veteran back up at half of his 3.5. Yeah, Tavares' contract is a burden. That comes off the books next year. So that's another 11M to further shore up any weaknesses. If Woll can't stay healthy, then maybe Leafs can use JT's cap space to sign a #1 goalie. If Woll finally gets over his injury prone pattern, then the Leafs can use that 11M to further shore up the D or replace JT with a free agent centre. Rome wasn't built in a day. Getting rid of Marner because he threw his gloves...like Syndey Crosby often does, isn't prudent. It's an emotional knee-jerk response by fans who act like their Christmas toys have been taken from them and want someone (Mitch) to pay for it. Irrational, emotional moves aren't the best way to manage a pro hockey club. Hyper emotional journalist and 4th line benchwarming Scrubs aren't the best source for advice on how to run an NHL hockey club.

The thing is, Crosby raises his game in playoffs. Marner doesnt. I still think Marner has a crazy season before he walks. I dont care if he does tbh.

@@willsk7068 Yes, Crosby is the best player since Gretzky and Lemieux, no argument there. The point being...he's a suck...because he cares. Also, while Marner hasn't "raised his game in the playoffs" neither has any of the other "core 4" who aren't getting railroaded out of town despite Marner having better playoff stats than any of them.

"If" they trade Marner means Marner is staying and playout his contract. Give it up with these Marner trade talks. It's not happening.

Marner for Saros straight up. That free 6m cap needs to go for a top rhd not a marner replacement when the leafs have 2 players in the minors they can move up to replace his production for 1m.
