The executives liked the show, but it didn't do so well, they wanted a well known actor to boost the ratings, luckily Danny's daughter was a fan of the show already. She also has been on the show a couple of times.

They talk about it in their latest podcast where Danny is a guest. Originally it was a more open coil so easy to get in, they didn't like that so they took something (can't remember what) painted it the same colour and put it in there to make it seem like he couldn't get out.

They talked about how they did it, It’s a custom made coil that’s been cut in half from top to bottom, when filming they simply closed it together and put tape around the joins then painted them blue to look like one complete coil instead of two halves
