Nostalgia Ultra = Indie Pop/R&B Channel Orange = Neo-Soul/R&B Blonde & Endless = Avant-Garde Maybe the last term sounds pretentious to y’all, but i do believe those last projects are very different than your typical R&B sound. The combination of Indie Rock, Art Pop, Psychedelic music, etc... it is some futuristic stuff.

Prally cuz Metalheads and Rock fans have a greater appreciation for all facets of a song. Instruments, vocals, lyrics and how it all fits well together. As opposed, to r&b/rap fans that mostly focus on the artist than the music. Probably cuz they don't produce they're own music. On the other hand, producers of rap songs have great appreciation and analysis of songs.

@@monkeydben7360 I'm a progressive rock fan. I reckon people who listen to more lirically and musically "complex" songs are more appreciative of the quality of a good song. However, no one can deny that the vast majority of them are elitists who will call almost every song out of their gender of choice "not music, just noise" and they undervalue songs and artists as a whole because it's not what they like. They're for some reason proud of what they listen to and feel smart about it, as if they were the ones who wrote the music. Even your comment shows a tad of that (though barely), now that I look at it closely.

Frank Ocean is an absolute master of the craft. However, I probably wouldn't have recommended this track as the first exposure one has to Frank. The eccentricity and cryptic nature of "Nights" would be more appreciated on first listen by a seasoned listener of his type of artistry. You guys should definitely react to more though... "Crack Rock" from 'Channel Orange' is a great starting point. But I agree with you... Frank is someone that takes a while to get into. It took me over a year to really listen to his first album (Channel Orange)... and now Channel Orange is one of my favourite albums of all time.

Frank Ocean is an extremely personal artist who just does what he wants to do, leading to a lot of experimental moments like that in his career. He came up with Tyler the Creator and the rest Odd Future. He was originally just their resident crooner who would write songs for more famous pop stars (Like Beyoncé, John Legend, & Justin Beiber) but he began to rise to prominence once he dropped his first mixtape, "nostalgia, ULTRA." Jay Z & Kanye heard about the tape through Beyoncé & they put him on two separate songs off Watch the Throne (Their collaborative album), one of those songs being the massive "No Church in the Wild." I love Frank & his music. He's possibly one of my favorite musician because of his honesty & vulnerability. He started to become more prominent while I was in high school & he made me see the world a hell of a lot differently. His music helped me get over a issue I had with homophobia. He had released an open letter revealing his bisexuality & I had already went a full year listening to his music, being moved by what he had to say. I found it ridiculous to ostracize someone for who they wanted to love, especially when his music helped me through heartache because of the people I chose to love. He even lead me to the strength to realize the truth about my own sexuality, which is incredibly nerve-wracking already & even worse when you're a black man leaving in a community that doesn't really approve, so his music will always hold a special place in my heart. "Self Control," a song off "Blond" (his second album) would be a pretty nice next step for you guys. It's one of my favorites. Either that or "Seigfried" which is also on Blond as well. Love the videos by the way. Keep 'em up. I always enjoy watching people journey deeper down the rabbit hole that is music.
