Фильм және анимация

The half-lap joint, (or ship-lap in this case) is easily done using a filister, or rabbeting plane. Frank shows the set-up and the ease with which this common joint can be made. Follow this link for more great instruction from Frank Klausz: bit.ly/Franks_Master_Class

I enjoy watching the ease with which this is done by muscle memory over time. Masterful!

Videos like this make you appreciate the time and skill that went into making anything before the invent of machinery. Everybody was a craftsman in their trade, something that is being lost sadly!!

Listening to Frank Klausz talk is like being with my grandparents again. Even though he is speaking English I can hear the Hungarian accent coming through.

When Frank Klausz wants to measure half the depth of a piece of wood he takes out a pencil, looks at the wood, draws a line and he’s there. When Mark Harris wants the measure half the depth of a piece of wood he takes out his expensive jig, forces a pencil into said jig, snaps the pencil lead, so forces another pencil into it, sets up jig and draws a line starting 4 inches in and finishes 4 inches from the end because his jig doesn’t go to the end, gets try square to try and finish the line but too awkward, turns wood around as he might have more success going from another angle, finishes line at both sides, measure to check line in centre and finds its only 1/3 across, tries to rub out marking without ruining wood, starts again..

Get yourself a cutting gauge, I recommend Veritas’ standard one, with the circular cutter. Very useful for precise lay out, and also establishing as a cutting tool for nice clean baselines for tenon shoulders. If the edge will show, cut very lightly to find a center with it without marring the work. Then highlight your line with a pencil if you need to.

I love doing this joint for cabinet backs and other places where I want a decorative panel. I always put a chamfer. Use an ambrosia maple half-lapped, aka shiplapped, joint with the chamfer on a walnut or darker wood case and it looks awesome!

You can also use it on cabinet fronts or side panels if you desire. It can be used on doors as well. The options are many.

Why not make sure that you are truly saved by Jesus Christ and practice this way. Remorsefully confess with your heart your sins to Jesus Christ who is God and tell Him that you right now are repenting of your sins and you want to be born again of the Spirit from above. Tell Jesus that you are remorsefully sorry for breaking His commandments and that you are begging for forgiveness from Him. Allow His blood from the cross to wash away your sins. After this is done with your heart successfully the Holy Spirit will come to live within you and He will rebuild you from the inside out. Look for signs that you are saved. Things like spreading the good news from Jesus, getting other people saved, a craving for the word of God, reading the Bible, etc… These things are known as a calling and fruit bearing. If you're not bearing fruit then keep doing it. Sometimes it takes time to get saved. Read Matthew chapter 13 from the King James Bible. God bless!!!!!
