As a designer/architect in a different field (microelectronic devices) I found this interview to be hugely engaging. It's rare that we hear an architect of Gehry's stature talking so openly and honestly about his art. I find the intrinsic simplicity of my designs increases with time. This does not mean a dilution of function. Some simple things are profound, Listen to the closing movement of Beethoven's last piano sonata, Opus 111 (written when he was stone deaf). It's in the key of C Major!

It's the "then what" that separates genuine architecture from buildings that just satisfy a client's programmatic and functional expectations or demands. In the end it is the aesthetic dimension that brings meaning into our lives and makes everyday experiences memorable. One needs always to remember Gehry's longstanding associations with California artists, especially those who were exploring new modes of expression.

His remarks remind me of Eugene Tsui and his Evolutionary Architecture concept, as well as, obviously, Frank Lloyd Wright.

There’s something about Gehry. He’s a subtly strange guy. You can almost taste his personality. You might wonder what’s that's strange taste? He also has the aura of someone very, very knowledgeable and intelligent, but doesn’t press it in your face.

many confused people throw around false equivalency by comparing pritzker prize to nobel prize. pritzker prize is just a vanity project and is a branding effort for wealthy pritzker family name. moreover, the prize committee is composed of mostly random buffoons who have not knowledge of building design and hence the prizes has no credibility. its akin to trash collector in nobel award selection committee making award for physics. architecture is a more a humanities degree than anything. most top tier us college or university do not offer this degree for a reason. harvard graduate design school has lot of people from second, third rate undergraduate schools because most kid smart enough to get into top tier schools are too intelligent to get into this non technical profession.
