I love this song. Frank Emilio is one of the Cuban Jazz masters who should have had wider recognition. The rhythmic shots of this song are so interesting and challenging. One of the hippest jam songs of all time!

​@@vova47 I understand your observation, As far as the solos on this track goes, there is very little in the way of American Jazz linear vocabulary, e.g.Bebop or Blues. What is being used is definitely Cuban music vocabulary. Frank is playing stuff that has developed out of the Cuban piano language. So in one respect, you are on the money. They are definitely improvising but not using Jazz-isms. In the strictest sense, I agree.

In one sense I agree with you. Even though they are improvising, they are not soloing based upon American Jazz vocabulary e.g. Bebop or Blues. What Frank is playing comes straight out of the Cuban Piano language. And the rest of the players are using Cuban linear vocabulary. But there are some lines in Maraca's solo which allude to American Jazz vocabulary. But all in all it's Cuban Descarga and not really "Jazz". I think Frank's aesthetic provides a starting point for pianists like Gonzalo Rubalcaba, or the Venezuelans Luis Perdomo and Edward Simon and to an extent the Dominican Michel Camilo, but this is only in the broadest way of looking at piano improvisers. The younger guys studied and worked in the States so their language is infused with American influence. My dear friend, the Venezuelan composer and drummer Marlon Simon comes out of the Blue Note school and out of the Hard Bop school. He uses the small band format and the voicing he uses in his arrangement have that Harmonic similarity. But Marlon is a genius and his work with the Gonzalez Brothers really ingrained American Linear Vocabulary in his music. Yeah, the younger cats definitely use that more. Great observation@@vova47 .

Digamos que el compositor es Guillermo Barreto aunque esto es una "descarga" cubana. Aqui todo el mundo pone lo suyo. Frank Emilio es el arreglista de esta version y sin duda, compositor inicial con Barreto

no sabia su istoria y en wikipedia dice:"Quedó ciego a la edad de trece años, lo cual no impidió que continuara con una sólida formación musical, en la que destacaron sus estudios con el arreglista Félix Guerrero. Su carrera inició en la década de 1940, tanto como intérprete solista como en orquestas. Asimismo, fundó en 1950 el Club Cubano de Jazz. Años más tarde, junto con Guillermo Barreto, Papito Hernández, Tata Güines y Gustavo Tamayo formó el Quinteto Instrumental de Música Moderna, que dio origen al grupo conocido como Los Amigos, a quienes se sumó posteriormente Cachaíto en sustitución de Hernández. Las grabaciones de esta agrupación se apropian a la vez de elementos propios de grandes pianistas como Art Tatum y de la herencia europea y africana de la música caribeña.

Este álbum si es producción de 1997. Para los años 60, Anga Díaz (1961,) y Orlando Maraca (1966) eran muy pequeñitos y Carlitos del Puerto (hijo de Carlos del Puerto) no había nacido. La versión original es de 1959.
