This piece of music is my favourite Greek song. As soon as I hear the opening bouzouki, I get a lump in my throat, and I dont know what it translates to, but it sounds like someone's heart has been broken or someone is missing home.

This song was the second one I ever heard from Maria Farantouri. It was in 1972 and I was extreamly impressed. It is my absolutly Nr. 1 of all Greek songs. The version of Milva her version with a new German poem, I really can't stand. I never understood Mikis Theodorakis for giving his permission. Sorry IIkamy for my contradiction. Hope you don't mind.

I disagree, Arispreveza. I'm Greek and when I hear Mario singing this, I don't even think of any other interpretation. It's the song that's carved in our hearts - and Mario's amazing voice makes it even more wonderful.

I remember hearing this for the first time back 80s with Milva singing. Still love it........
