It's wild. I took 4 years of spa ish and can't speak shit. Granted I didn't try and my teacher was retiring so neither did she lol. But still, it's hard as hell to learn a 2nd language and English is difficult. Especially as an adult, it's a lot tougher. Credit to him. I love hearing him speak.

Francis' English is very impressive. It was only like 2-3 years ago that he needed a translator after his fights because he barely spoke English. EDIT: For everyone saying "basic English is easy to learn", Francis isn't speaking "basic English". He's using advanced vocabulary and articulating his thoughts very well. Just because he has a thick accent doesn't mean his English is basic. Give the man some props.

Yes, his English is much improved. However, many times people learning a new language choose not to use it because they aren't confident yet. So you may not have seen his full ability because he was hesitant to use broken English, so the jump in improvement seems drastic.

I had the honor of meeting Francis in NYC back in 2017, right before his fight with Overeem (before he really blew up). It was after the GSP vs Bisping weight in’s that night at Madison Square Garden. He was an absolute gem of a person. Stopped on the street and made sure all my friends and I got our pictures and actually chatted with us for quite a while. A humble man from humble beginnings, it’s so nice to see how far he’s come. Putting my arm on his back for the picture felt like someone was playing a joke on me, he felt like he was made of metal. An absolute beast of a person haha
