Francis J. Dewes House, part 2, the grand entertaining spaces
Earlier today I spent an hour walking through and marveling at the Francis J. Dewes House in Lincoln Park.
The home was one of the most lavishly detailed and decorated homes in Chicago when it was built in the 1890s, and remains in that category today. It's a Chicago landmark, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The home has undergone a 6-year restoration and renovation, and is expected to be on the market soon, priced at $9.9 million.
Many thanks to Koenig & Strey's Mary Bennett for arranging access to the home for me.
In this part of my tour I walk through the public spaces of the home, one of the many highlights of which is a spectacular staircase with a stained-glass window wall at the landing level.

that entry way is absolutely beautiful
The building was home to The Swedish Engineers Society of Chicago from, I believe, the early 20s to the early 50;s.. The lower level (basement) had a bar, lounge area, and slot machines. The third floor had a mirrored ballroom, lounge and a bar. After the building was sold, members continued to meet at various restaurants well into the 1980's. I have many fond memories of the time spent there.

Thanks for the memories.
My grandfather was the chauffeur there in the 1920s. Nice to see inside!

i know right....gorgeous house.
Beautiful Mansion I want it for my family xx
I love the older homes of Chicago
I too fell hard for the first time in my life for a piece of property yesterday when I discovered the Dewes mansion on a walk. There is a twin designed house next to it.
Too understated
Esta cada es perfecta para ser museo.
The library is stunning, however the living area is soooo over done it borders on laughter...Liberace would love it.
Is this House still available because I’ll be a successful rapper soon? This is my dream home and has been for 10 years now.

Elena Uvarova books were more expensive at the time lol
very beautiful house but the problem you do it for three part and the camera very bad
"The kitchen flows into a [lakewater?] area?" I can't make out what he said. Between the kitchen and the dining room there's another little kitchen, it appears, before you get to the dining room. What is that?

Wet bar area.
Tiene fotos de la cocina original?
I don't the the noise is what's to be expected - and I strongly suspect you won't be placing a bid nonetheless.
What is that noise in the background? If that is what is to be expected I don't think I will be giving a bid on it.

Looks like a nice place where ghosts lives...
100 % pure opulence
BEAUTIFUL design but it's too "house on hunted hill". I would definitely come in and paint with bright and earthy colors. The kitchen is ugly.
