While Mr. Coppola is still with us, his wife unfortunately isn't. Eleanor Coppola just passed away on April 12, 2024.

Thanks, when I saw she had died last week I thought Francis wouldn't be far behind. (long time married couples often die close together) I saw this Letterman post and immediately thought he had passed, but thankfully he's still around driving his Tucker Torpedo. 👍😉

@@DirtySanchez658 Since you're obviously unware of just how much his wife was involved in Francis Ford Coppola's movie making process, including her serving as her husband's personal filmmaker documenting his movies being made, then may I suggest starting at their Wikipedia pages? 🤦♂️
Francis had a run of films in the 70's that is unrivalled by any other film maker

And then he blew that very run in the 80s with this very movie, "One From The Heart", lol

The movie he mentions with the 40 teenagers screentesting was The Outsiders. One of my favorite movies as a kid.
Love Francis. He's done so much for all of us that love and create stories. One from the Heart is magical. It recently received a new restoration. Hopefully more people will discover it as Tom Waits's score is one of the best you'll ever hear!
Don't worry he's alive. This new attention is likely due to his "long awaited" film "Megalopolis" (13 years in the making) which is finally being released this year. It's making it's debut at this years Cannes Film Festival in May ! It was re-written 3x, re-casted 2x & filming delayed 4x until 2022.

Longer than that. He's been talking about Megalopolis since the 80's. It's his passion project.
Francis Coppola is truly one of the best directors to have ever existed in film and am grateful for all he has shared for the cinematic arts! It feels so amazing to see this former 1982 interview from Letterman to see how he has progressed as a director and the work he has done 🎬 Having the honor to have worked with Coppola on Megalopolis was one moment I couldn’t ever forget. Francis is not only a wonderful director but was also a fantastic mentor for the film as I will never forget the experience I had ❤️ Sending the best wishes to Francis on his return to Cannes for promoting Megalopolis and wishing the best for all in the arts 🙌
Apocalypse Now was the second or third R rated movie I saw in the theater as a kid in 1979. I was blown away by it. It seemed every year in the mid to late 70's there was movie that blew me away in one way or another. Jaws in 1975, Rocky in 1976, Star Wars, Close Encounters in 1977, Superman The Movie in 1978 and Apocalypse Now in 1979. Saw them all back then. Changed everything.

Some of my favorite Letterman's were the early to mid 80's. the show had a very different vibe than later at CBS. Not that i didn't like the CBS days too. 😀
PHEW! I saw this worried he'd passed then googled it...he's alive. 85. Pretty good.
That ''room full of 17 year olds'' he was talking about probably included Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Matt Dillon, and Ralph Macchio. Because he next film was 'The Outsiders.''

Terrific interview! Really looking forward to his Megalopolis film.
It's been so long, I'd like to see One From The Heart again. All I really remember is that I liked the music enough to buy the soundtrack, which miraculously I still own. But the film was such a bomb it nearly destroyed him financially according to the press.

There's a new restoration that just got released a couple of months back. It looks great! I'll always love the film. I think time has caught up with what he was doing with it.
Francis's Baghdad Bob moment
He was talking about The Outsiders (“room of 17-yr olds”), which he was casting in Oklahoma at the time.
Birthday I'm hoping? Only 2 options here, like the two roads in a small town; one goes to the highway, the other goes to the graveyard. 😢

Irony. One From the Heart was an outstanding film, but a financial knee capper for him. Good thing he had that vinyard to fall back on.

I bet FFC could take back that bet.

Francis, at age 85, sold his vineyard to finance his 120 million dollar dream project, Megalopolis. I plan on seeing it on the largest screen I can find.
I could listen to him talk for hours. A very interesting and engaging man. I love his daughter's films too.
