I'm reading all the comments and... Am I the only one who wants Eloise NOT to be queer? Just because she doesn't like the idea of marriage doesn't mean she has to be queer. They always do that now... A character doesn't like romance, society or marriage so they MUST be queer. Straight people dislike that stuff too

Ikr. Also, none of the Bridgertons should be queer. The writers could have introduced a character that wasn’t a Bridgerton as queer instead of turning this into a whole mess. Quite frankly, why are all these shows always trying to either be woke, or pull something like this. They always ruin perfectly classic stories. I don’t understand why. This was my fave series, but after watching season 3 I’m beyond disappointed. There wasn’t even enough Polin moments, it was as though they were side characters.

@@warrior9694 I'm not the biggest fan of Penelope so the side characters was actually a relief for me, and the side stories were interesting to me. It's a TV show, not a movie or a book. It's an entire universe, there are other characters in it. They can't have those characters being cardboard cutouts the entire time until it's their turn to shine.

The man that sacrificed his entire youth for his brother (in a world of rakes who had no responsibilities...let alone burden)...I want to see him with eloise. Eloise is pampered and privileged and does not compromise at all. I love eloise for that. But he made some of the biggest compromises and he is equally great.

I understand that the actress declined to appear in season 3, but at least they could have mentioned Daphne not being able to show up because she's like 8 months pregnant or her and her family are currently travelling overseas or whatever. Her not being mentioned at all, regarding her closest siblings wedding, made no sense to me.

All I ask, is that Fran truly loves John and grieves him. I always felt like the message of her story was love doesn't just come once and you can find it again. That's what I hope for, rather than just I'm gay and had to marry because of society.

And instead of having so many side plots, they could have waited till Francesca opening herself to loving also be the reason for Violet realising she could also. So we get more screen time with Polin by taking out Marcus/Violet/Agatha whole plot. Francesca story can take that added plot since her book doesn't have alot of side characters.

For 8 episodes we loved Fran and loved her story with John. A beautiful, simple romance that showed love can be experienced differently and doesn't need to be loud and dramatic.She literally fought hee mother to validate their love. Then at the last second they show her kissing him looking disgusted? confused? I dont even know what that reaction was. Then her falling instantly for Michael(a) , just days after her wedding which is totally disrespectful asf to her and John's season long love story? Are this writers kidding me? The point of her book wss second chance love. How will that happen if she's bot even in love with her husband? Season 4 better fix this mess cause I'll be livid fr

Yes! She looks almost disappointed. I have an uneasy feeling about their relationship now. Which is sad because I have loved their story.

I preferred their romance over all the others. Two people who knew what they wanted, and did not mind that others did not necessarily agree. It's okay to live your life in peace, outside of the expectations of everyone else.

Hannah really did well at stepping into Ruby's shoes. I hope that she'll be the main focus in a couple of seasons, after Benedict's story.

Me too. But to be honest, ive gone off Bridgerton since Season 2. It's too modern for my tastes and the characters dont olease me, I've gone back to watching original Jane Austen films

i have such mixed feelings about the changes to francesca’s story😭i screamed when we saw michaela but now realising all that will taken away from francesca’s development regarding infertility and grief (and regarding her true quiet love w john that might now be made platonic). ugh idkkkk edit- also the fact that they explicitly diminish francesca’s love with john using her reaction after the kiss and when she meets his cousin (she adored john and grieved him for yearsssss like why make it seem like she’s falling for her husbands cousin instead of going the original route of being friends and michael/a yearning for her until they fall in love when it’s their time!!)

Based on the books, it’s a series ain’t gonna be the exact same, now how they look at the fertility is different, maybe now they will look at it and John will actually try to bear a child with her but then struggles with her fertility issues leading Michael (Michaela) to comfort her? Who knows how the story is gonna go, I understand it isn’t what you expected, yet, isn’t that what a series does? Gives unexpected twists? We can see how this pans out, and as someone who didn’t read the books it doesn’t really affect me. The books is something you hold dear to your heart I see, and it’s something that you should do. Honestly as someone gay myself i literally have seen since the beginning that Francesca had a sense of this bitch probably gay but hasn’t realised shit yet since she avoids everything and everyone like the plague, it’s the first time she actually noticed and felt something, doesn’t mean she’s gonna cheat on John, I don’t think they would ever fuck up our cutest/innocent girl like that. Let’s have faith in the process

Putting aside how much she loved John in the books, I think her coming to understand her feelings and herself and the kiss being the start is fine....or would have if she didn't spend so many episodes talking about how their love didn't have to be dramatic and quick only to feel exactly that with someone else, days after marriage. Not only that but for it to be revealed in the same way as her mom's love to her dad was when her mom was the primary person she was trying to defend against. I would have been more excited for the gender swap (even if they kept the kiss reaction) if they didn't show that reaction to her meeting Michaela. Just reading the book and knowing who she ends up with would have been enough to say Oooh, well that's interesting. For non book readers, I don't think that nudge was needed. Just a new character at the end would have sparked interest that she would be important in someway. I was rooting for Fran but now it feels like she was only saying all that because she didn't know any better

Is Micheala suppose to be Michael? Her story was great because of her struggle as a female. Motherhood, companionship and guilt

This is going to be such a controversy, because Francesca's book is the most popular one and Michael is the most popular of the men in the Bridgerton universe, so this tells me the show runners have ZERO interest in the book readers. Out of all the siblings and out of all the stories there were, they had to pick Francesca's for their big plot twist? Out of all the books they had to adapt they picked the one readers wanted to see adapted the most??? And when people complain about this change and criticize the season, they will call it homophobic. I think it's great to gender swap characters in a second or third adaptation of the same story (like why not gender swap P&P or Jane Eyre, there are plenty of adaptations) but not in a first adaptation, when people have not even seen the book they loved adapted at all. It's like making a first adaptation of Twilight and gender swapping Edward to make it a queer romance. Great idea for a second adaptation, but they would never have done if for the first one.

For modernity's sake, the producers could have made Eloise queer, instead of Fran. Fran's novel, and her main love interest, Michael Stirling, is one of the most well-written characters amongst the 8 novels. Her novel centers around miscarriage, fertility issues, Michael being forced to take over the Earldom after John, and his grief surrounding those circumstances. Fran wants to remarry because she wants to be a parent, and Michael is wracked in guilt because he wants to love her but stays away for decency's sake. Plus the thing that irked me the most is when this new character meets Fran for the first time, Fran is the one smitten, but in the novel, it's Michael who's in awe of her. They have strayed from the book too much to call it a Bridgerton adaptation now.

I was really disappointed because Francesca and Michael’s story touched a lot of good points about struggle with pregnancy, infertility, 2nd chance at love etc. And Michael was actually a well written character. Honestly, some scenes in season 3 looked liked a lot of repetition from Season 1 & 2.

It’s so disappointing. I honestly think they decided that a story about infertility and miscarriage wasn’t “shiny” enough for TV Bridgerton so they don’t want to tell it. Much easier to sell audiences a story about queer love than a woman’s infertility and heartbreak.

I loved how Francesca's mother Violet realized that not all loves have to be fireworks with raging intensity from day one. Too bad the producers agreed with Violet that there is only one type of love. I didn't read the novel so when I realized that Francisca fell for Michaela literally days after her marriage to John, I felt betrayed and angered. How could the character I related to have a storyline of where she is a cheating slim bag! Then a friend who read the novel told me Francesca's true story. That she truly was in love with John in the novel and everything else. I started crying (literally not figuratively). Her original love stories were so beautiful, heart ranching with hardship and pure that it was close to fairytale. I guess the producers felt the same way so gave Francesca a very generic romance storyline that is the staple of all romantic movies, novels, and TV shows going back to slavery era. Oh but it is a lesbian coupling so it is super same- I mean super "different" and "progressive".

Yep I hold her book dear to me cause it's a little boringly written but the themes hit hard. Francesca and John were truly the perfect couple and perfect unit. A fairytale ending waiting to happen that Michael knew he didn't stand a chance and pined for Fran from afar. Then suddenly Fran's fairytale ends and she loses her soulmate, her child and she has to learn to cope and fight for herself. And it takes time for her to finally open her eyes to another fairytale with Michael but even then it's still not enough cause her biggest desire of being a Mom isn't happening and the story packs so much punch that would translate amazingly onscreen but Jess and co felt they knew better than their viewers.

Still can't believe they replaced Michael. Their book was my favorite

I hate that the writers have completely destroyed her upcoming storyline.

@violetlavi2207 you dont get it lmao. The character of Michael is essentially deleted bc Michaela cannot be what Michael was, to Francesca or even to John. Can Michaela inherit the title? No. Can Michaela impregnate and marry Fran? No. Can Michaela openly go around and be the female version of a rake? Also no. And dont bring up Lady Tilley, everything she did was so absolutely on the hush. By changing the gender of Michael, they undoubtedly have to make huge changes to the storyline. Francesca not feeling as excited by John's kiss on the wedding and her stumbling over Michaela were the first 2 major changes. *sigh* . Im South African though & am super happy for Masali but Michael had to be male for Frans story to be what it was.

Everybody adored Blimsley's story, people infact even wrote fanfics where it was made clear that there would be a timeline where Blinsley ended up w the love of his life and Queen charlotte accepted it. The problem people have w framcesca being gay us she wanted to be a mother, she struggled w infertility and she grieved the death of her husband. That is was the fucking core of her relationship and they changed it

She started truly struggling with her being infertile when she was with Michael (she had always wanted babies before that but that is when she truly realized that she is unable to have a baby). It is about how you feel about yourself and how you question your womanhood. If you've ever watched HIMYM you will know that Robin never wanted to be a mother but when she realized that she couldn't being a mother because she was infertile it messed with her.

I’m sorry but to change the most realistic and different storyline is annoying they should of kept Francesca alone and changed Eloise’s instead if they wanted a lgbtq+ couple

how to take a great book story, made it even better in serial in first 2 seasons, which is rare thing and then absolutely f*ck it up in 3d season spoiling 2 next seasons in advance, spoiling Penelope and Colin's story as well not concentrating on them in THEIR season. But let's concentrate on positive, there's one good thing about it, hate waiting and that's why always watch only finished serials except of this one, so glad that I do not have to wait anymore - end of story for me in serials, better to read books...

I really dislike the fact that they had to change the character of Michael Sterling to Michaela. Listen I get that nowadays they want to cater to the LGBT+ community, but couldn’t they have not veered this much from the books. They could have created a spin off on a separate character in the Bridgerton verse that does not have an existing story in the books. Her story with Michael was beautiful, and now this is just not going to make sense.

Also let me recap, it’s based on the books, it isn’t going to be the exact same thing, now with what goes on with her story can be a few differences. But the love and passion I bet is gonna remain the same. Hold the book dear to your heart. But don’t get offended if a writer of the series decides to take a risky yet different route, they know they were gonna get this reaction yet pressed on. I believe that they are gonna kill it in my opinion, as someone who didn’t read the books.

Precisely. And I also really dislike that they are planning to also make her character queer. None of the Bridgertons were queer. The books were successful for a reason. Classic sweet, steamy romances. What’s so wrong with keeping in line with that. They could have created a spin off of a separate character if they really wanted to introduce a queer character.

I loved them but I’m bummed out that they now can’t carry out Fran’s plot line which revolves heavily around motherhood especially and the writers took away her realistic and quiet love with John. Also if they wanted a queer storyline Eloise is RIGHT THERE and clearly holds no joy at all for any man or traditional marriage not to mention Benedict who has spent the whole season exploring his sexuality

This mindset actually helps the showmakers exploit sentiments of people to churn out lazy and bad quality content. While I understand the sentiment, i absolutely abhore showmakers who use it to make easy money or worse...use such swap for shock value. That serves as marketing strategy as well because they know that people of conservative mindset are gonna get riled up. They also know that most of those voices will be reasonable but because of a few people...the narrative will become LEFT VS RIGHT and the people who claim to believe in a spectrum suddenly start to project that ideas are binary and those who don't like their shows are racist and homophobic. The controversy and disappointment will automatically get people talking. I have experience working with people like that... They gaslight people. Terrible capitalists

@@valley-girl I'm not conservative (center-left) and I'm also disappointed we won't see Michael. Francesca's book is my favorite. If they go for Michaela, they better not mess it up. Very mixed feelings about all seasons. I want romance with a bit of drama, not drama with a bit of romance. 😢

Francesca and John’s story line is just a weird one completely. Even their wedding kiss was odd when the camera zoomed in close on Francesca face.

I don’t care that they added some gay relationship stuff in there…but I wish it had been in a story line where it would have made more sense…this feels very forced and takes away from Francesca’s grief and motherhood struggles and journey…I’m very disappointed and upset. Michael taking over the earldom and loving her the way he did was so well written and I get it won’t be exact but this deviates too much and feels not organic.

They are gonna make the story about how the queer life in 1800s. No widowhood, no infertility, no grief. I would have totally fine if they made Eloise queer. I am already disappointed with Phillip, it would have been much better option

This is beautiful. I loved them in the book & Victor & Hannah portrayed them so well.

I observed that the very moment she kissed him for the first time, she appeared confused. It was evident that the kiss did not feel right to her. I turned to my partner and remarked, "Did she not feel anything or enjoy the kiss, or was it not as she had imagined?" My partner dismissed my observation, but as the story unfolded, it became clear. The character she portrays is homosexual, and therefore, she did not experience passion with him, only a sense of comfort. This was further highlighted when she looked at Michaela and felt something she had never felt before, suggesting a deeper emotional connection and attraction.

Which is not like the book. She loved john..and I loved the idea of a woman loving a man and losing him but not losing herself. She found love for the SECOND TIME AND SEXUAL ATTRACTION..for the second time and her second times is what made ger story unique and beautiful. She was a strong woman who did not kill her desire of having children just because she lost john. She went back to the marriage mart and with a lot of clarity. I loved Michael and he was my fantasy. Honestly, this girl's never gonna be that.

Once again a show deviates from the source material thereby ruining the story. George RR Martin just recently said it best. "When showrunners re-write a story based on a book, to fullfill their perdonal agenda it's always worse. And with his many year in tv as well as the disasturous ending of "A game of Thrones" who would know better?

Yes there may be differences as to who owns the property I believe as in that time it cannot be the girl. But the love shouldn’t be any different.

Here let me give you an example: "Based on" means that something is developed or derived from a particular source, foundation, or reference. It indicates that the subject in question takes inspiration, ideas, principles, or elements from another work, concept, or information. For example, a movie can be "based on" a book, meaning the movie's storyline is derived from the book's plot.” Also this is completely different than game of thrones. They fucked up the character completely changing her personality so quick. This is different? It’s just a gender swap?? Like it’s not like they are changing the character completely… I understand that it may not have been what you wanted. But if it were someone disabled missing an arm or a leg would you have complained? Because also back in the day they would look down upon people with disabilities. It’s about a new perspective. Bridgerton seems to forget who their main audience is and thus, whose fantasy they were catering too. Indeed, book wise, Michael was very much the fantasy of the ‘central audience’. They fucked up. It should have been Eloise, people love Sophie and Michael too much.

That's exactly what happened to DC Comics when they made Superboy gay and Red Robin bisexual. They forgot who their main audience is. And the result was disastrous.

Well I don’t know about other people choice which I respect but if you ask me that if they change michael gender in series I will not watch francesca sessions at all cause I will be heartbroken as I have read the books and whatever they have shown in this series is wrong 😢

Well I mean the author herself said she would not mind if they change things up. A character is a character above all, often their race (unless it is an integral part of their story) and gender (the same applies) does not matter. In this case, Michael's race nor gender are important to the storyline, so if they swap their gender it shouldn't matter

I for one would love to see how this goes. Let’s say the last of us series, did not like pedro pascal as he did not play his character that well but did love Ellie well grew to love her because it was the personality that mattered because EVERYONE was talking about her looks and still is and I think she did an amazing job. Pedro pascal though could have done some improving. Now I’m not pissed at it because they also made some changes because it’s a series, but I should expect that by now. As you. So grow some balls man up and take it like a champ, if you don’t wanna watch anymore because of it GREAT im gonna enjoy the show as is

So they had to pander and decided to use Fran’s story… it would’ve made so much more sense to gender swap Benedict’s love interest considering they spent a whole season showing him exploring his sexuality. Why gender swap a story about infertility, motherhood, and grief

I can't remember whether it was Jonathan or Antony that said he was going to be at all of his siblings' wedding; well, that obviously didn't happen because they have been shipped off to India.

It was such a sweet love story and I can see they are gonna ruin it. True love comes it many forms and it’s doesn’t have to be like a thunderbolt but can come softly. It doesn’t make it any less. I just hope that they don’t make it that she suddenly realized that she didn’t love him and « found » herself only after falling in love with his cousin.

You know why Harry Potter series were (and still are!) successful? Because they DIDN'T change the story. Francesca's book is one of my most favourite among the whole siblings because her story (imho) is really complex. She became a widow just two years into marriage, she suffered miscarriage, yet she wanted a big family of her own. Turning her into a queer just doesn't make any sense to me. Oh well.. 😒

This should not be called a "book adaptation" this should be called "a queer adaptation" ... why does the lgbtq+ has to be in everything now? Let the queer be queer and the straight be straight...but don't mess with the storyline.... follow the book storyline! I really hope this is like Benedict and is just a "phase" for her and they put her back to straight to go back to her storyline from the books

@awsome182 I wish!! I keep reading reviews that the producer is queer and she saw herself in Fran's book so she wanted to implement that in the series😬 so most likely they will keep her queer. I may just boycott her season 🤷‍♀️😭 Sad because Fran is such a great girl! I bet anything that's why the original actress quit after the 2nd season, she knew they would turn Fran queer and she didn't want anything to do with that

the original actress wouldn’t have read the script and wouldn’t have known about this 😂 also, one endgame queer storyline won’t kill you, I promise. You can afford to watch one relationship you don’t relate to (two, if you count Benedict’s throuple , but that was short-lived)

Yeah even in the books she's like that lol. She's been trapped as the middle child while also being an introvert so it was painful for her. So she wants her peace but she does love her family.But she's not at a point of her life yet where she realises she misses them like that cause all she wants currently is a break. That realisation comes after she loses John which is why them making it seem she doesn't love him changed so much of her character.

Not sure about the writers as they're talking about Francesca falling for the Earls sister Im thinkin' what!!! ...can we stick to the books a little just a little ...the licence is getting out of control...they were such a beautiful couple loved their story...at least they had some chemistry ....Brigerton over and out

There are so many comments opposing frannie being a queer character and many comments about wishing Eloise to be a queer character instead! I reeeeeeeeeally hope they don’t ruin Benedict x Sophia’s story. That’s my favorite of all the books, and I feel that they’ve already ruined Francesca’s story….

Francescas mother said she couldn't say her name when she met her husband. the same when francesca saw her husband cousin. I didn't read the books but I am sure she will fall in love with the cousin

This is probably the most unhappy character with his life, identity and loneliness. She wants to feel alive, but she doesn't know where her life is. What she experiences does not bring her elation and passion

The fact that I went on and on about how John doesn't seem to be the right fit...and now they changed the most awaited character (Michael) to a girl??? What? SHE WANTED KIDS AND A FAMILY SO BAD. Did they not take lessons from Harry potter's characters being changed to lgbtq? Create NEW COUPLES and new characters like queen charaollete. I deserved Michael as a book lover. This was my favorite story. 😢😢😢😢 Now, I will feel terrible for John. I won't watch the 4th season if it is about Franchesca. I might watch in case of benedict... unless they ruin him to ...who knows they might say...he feels like a woman now.

I like flawed characters (I love lady featherington and even marina ) . I loved the fact that I could see many actual british aristocrats in him. He's simply out of touch with many things but understands the suffocation it would cause a maid to become his wife. He would either have to move away from the society (which he said he would)...but then, he would have to leave his family and lose his social self. I like the show one too ...but they have used his character for gay baiting. There's not much to his character except for the fact that he fks anyone and everyone. He's nice but nice is not what benedict was. They should have kept him like that AND THEN GIVEN HIM A CHARACTER GROWTH. For once, I would wanna watch a truly flawed character and earn that forgiveness from his loved one and his audience.

Despite what everyone is saying about how they had Francesca act after the kids and how she acted around Michaela, it’s still clear that she loves John and is attracted to John. I think part of the deal with the kiss is that Francesca is new to all the physical stuff as well. I wouldn’t be shocked if she and John do struggle with intamacy in the beginning of their marriage and it improves over time. What they really need to do next season is to correct this and still make her future story with Michaela great is have Francesca realize her sexuality, which is clearly bisexual, and ultimately still chose John because she loves him most. It saves their story and doesn’t diminish her future one with Michaela.

The cousin i supposed to fall for Francesca first, not make F a bumbling idiot, unless someone is projecting herself on the F character to tell a non Bridgerton story. I see that they are giving the story of finding a second love after widowhood to Violet, so they can do whatever to Francesca. I feel for the husband character. She ultimately settled for him, depreciating the story that praised a slow burn love.

I have no problem with diversity but changed the character’s sexuality and motivations is too much for this story. We were rooting for Francesca and John, even for a short time. And excited to see Michael and her charector growth. But naw, they took a dump on that for whatever self serving reason. They are Game of Throning this series. Hopefully backlash is strong enough to change this somehow. Give us the novel progression for Francesca!

I’m sorry but not every show needs lgbt representation. It’s getting unrealistic and it’s disrespectful to the source material. What endeared people to Francesca was her infertility, grieving her beloved husband, and having to move on. Michael was also a fan favorite because he struggled with losing his cousin, having to inherit the earldom, and struggling with guilt because he fell in love with his dead cousin’s wife. Now the show makes it seem that Francesca doesn’t care about John at all and that she fell in love with someone else at first sight, when it was really the other way around. Netflix really sh*t the bed on this one.

How would you feel if the world was gay and you barely got any heterosexual representation. Can't you give the queer people out there a small victory. I watched all the seasons and I'm a lesbian even though I thought all the main characters were straight and I had no problem with that but you have a problem with one queer love story

@doubledoodle1619 It's not about being upset with inclusion in general, it's about the modification of an apparently great storyline (I personally did not read the books so I cannot judge it myself) that was fine the way it was and also made sense to not be queer (miscarriage, fertility issues, etc). From my perspective, when watching the show, the added queerness felt totally forced. They built a beautiful relationship, better then Colin/Penelope and then they randomly throw queerness in at the end for a character for which is does not feel right.

People simply are annoyed that existing stories are invaded by queer plot points instead of simply creating new queer stories or adapting already existing queer stories. Let the queers be queers and let the straights be straights.

I am so sad because I really like John Sterling and for the fact that Francesca does not get an HEV with John is sad because they both look so good together.

You can see she's disappointed and confused after the kiss. 😢

I really enjoy queer stories. But queer original stories. I don't need existing stories to be overtaken by queer plot points. Make new stories or adapt already existing queer stories, but don't make straight stories queer just for the sake of it.

I think John’s gestures are very sweet, even if they are understated. He really understands her passions and adores her as a person. I’m just not sure if that adoration is mutual. It felt a bit one sided to me. She’s just trying to get married and have some peace as soon as possible. It’s almost too easy and comfortable. That’s supposed to come with time, there’s supposed to be some sort of passion in a relationship, that ease is not all there’s supposed to be. It feels more like a good friendship than a relationship. The fact that her mother says that when she fell in love, she stumbles over her words, and then Francesca starts stumbling over her words with John’s cousin, Michaela, I believe that’s foreshadowing a future relationship that’s different than the one she had with John Kilmartin.
