Frances Tiafoe On Beating Rafa Nadal at The US Open and His Love For The NBA

Спорт

This is a very special episode of The Old Man and The Three podcast with JJ Redick and Tommy Alter. Today we are joined by one of the best tennis players in the world, Frances Tiafoe, and this is one of the coolest conversations we've had on the podcast. Frances talks to us about his incredible backstory and how he got into tennis, beating Rafael Nadal in The US Open and making it all the way to the semifinals. He also discusses the pressures of being a successful American male tennis player and the influence of Venus and Serena Williams. Finally, he talks about his love for The NBA and JJ plays a little game with him where Frances has to compare specific NBA players to specific tennis players. After that, we are joined by OM3 correspondent and Phoenix Suns star, Mikal Bridges. We discuss the Zion 360 Dunk during their game against The New Orleans Pelicans that ignited a "kerfuffle" between players like Chris Paul, Jose Alvarado and Cam Payne. Lastly, we drafted 'People We Most Want To See Cast As James Bond" and if you know anything about Mikal's drafting skills... you know you're in for a treat.

At least with the way the current NBA is I have to be honest. Not to everybody obvs but to me tennis is currently more exciting than the NBA. I literally started watching tennis because I wanted a sport that gave me intensity that I was no longer getting from the NBA. Not saying the NBA can't be intense. I'm only posting this so maybe the NBA can finally stop having each team take 50 3 pointers a game lol

Just a note on something that bothered me (technical aspect): I think the noise gate was a little too agressive. It was stopping a couple of frequencies, in the start/middle of words, and once you notice that, it does not go away! It was happening on all the 3 mics - less on JJs. 🤣

Djokovic is more like LeBron. Has the greatest stats but not the most popular. And even saying this its difficult to describe Djokovic. Everyone knows that home advantage is huge in every sport. That's why every player/team has better record in front of his/their fans than playing as a guest. Now think about Djokovic who played like 90% of all of his matches where crowd was against him. And he still is the best tennis player ever. That's why he won Australian open so many times. And that's why its difficult to comprehend how great he is and how difficult is to achieve what he has achieved so far.

JJ let's get this straight. Tennis is NOTHING like golf. Golf isn't even a sport. According to tennis LEGEND Andre Agassi, if you have even a slight chance of playing better after a few drinks, then what you are engaged in is NOT a sport. It's a game. That's golf. If you want to understand what it's like to play tennis, you have to go to combat sports. That said, another great interview, and me too when it comes to being a Frances Tiafoe fan for life :)
