I was a personal assistant for Frances for 4 yrs. She was the kindest woman I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, when my Dad was dieing of colon cancer she paid for all of his doctor's expenses and for his final services and gravestone....... Ty Frances, you will forever be in my heart and prayers.......

Both Frances McDormand and Katharine Hepburn share a lot of commonalities than you think. Apart from being the only women to win 3 or more Best Actress Oscars, their awards trajectories are virtually identical too! Both won their first Oscars early in their careers and the remaining 3 in each case (including the producing win for McDormand) all coming AFTER turning 60 (both won their 2nd Oscars at age 60, with the third one coming almost immediately after (McDormand's third acting win was 3 years after her 2nd, while Hepburn's 2nd and 3rd wins were in consecutive years)).

90% of the scenes in Nomadland were so short that it makes it easier to get an Oscar for acting. Plus the film industry is at an all-time low when it comes to quality films.. just look at how many completely forgettable movies have been made in the last 4-5 years. I liked Nomadland very much and thought Frances McDormand was very good in the film but considering the sheer lack of decent films made the last few years it makes it much easier to get nominated and even win an Academy Award. The film industry was 10x better in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s then it is today. Meryl Streep is in my personal opinion still the Best becuase she has been nominated 17 times back when it was much harder to get a nomination and and an actual Win.

I loved Fargo, but the character of Frances, didn't really impress me, I mean, we saw her after 30 minutos the film start, and she just performed a pregnant "sarcastic" chief, she spent her time, eating, driving, and just that... while Emily Watson, she was raped, she undress herself, she was beated, she was hated by a whole town, and she "talk" with God in her mind, Emily Watson's performance is 10 times better than Frances, and there's something funny, I saw her in 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, and in my opinion, she deserve it, we saw all her faces, she reminds me at Margot Channing, she had the balls for that role... what do you think?

Basically McDormand, Watson, and Blethyn (?) will be a three-way tied for me....such a rich year for best actress....but if I have to go with my heart, it'll go to Emily Watson for such a raw, emotionally-draining performance

I've got nothing against Frances, but Emily Watson really deserved that award, more than Frances, if you make a comparation, Emily's performance is stronger and hard-to-see, I love Frances, but her performance wasn't something subliminal for me... and I loved Fargo

@@christiansarrazin8564 that was really tough year. And like you said.... Emily Watson deserved that Oscar big time. Even Brenda Blethyn. But hey.... there is always just one winner, even just by 1 vote. And in this case , it was probably really close between those 3. And I can watch Fargo movie over and over and over again. That movie is just brilliant, every scene is a masterpiece. The English Patient won best movie...… just no. And if you know and remember SEINFELD tv show ( I don't know how old are you and where are you from) … there was one episode when Elaine Benes ( Julia Louise-Dreyfus ) had to go to see THE ENGLISH PATIENT movie , again, with her boss.... and she was like I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE , I CAN'T , IT'S TOO LONG, QUIT TELLING YOUR STUPID STORY ABOUT STUPID DESERT AND JUST DIE ALREADY , DIE !!! I felt same, watching it. Anyway....Juliette Binoche won an Oscar, well deserved, even movie was really boring.

Fargo of course is a masterpiece but Mcdormand's Performance is not what I expect, I saw Fargo first than Breaking The Waves, but not everybody are open-mind, Oscars are racist, and Emily's Performance is so, not the typical young lady in problem, or the "marvelous" Marge. after seeing three bilboards outside ebbing missouri, i initially found the movie underwhelming, maybe its the hype attached to the movie or something. but then i reflected on the families in ireland who have lost loved ones via murder and whose bodies have never been found and how the police give up on them. Frances Mcdormand did a fantastic job of displaying the anger and grief of a person whose had her daughter taken from her in the most violent way possible. the film thread a difficult line between the darkness of the subject matter and the dark humour. it was beautifully shot film. i dont think its a perfect film. in bruges is still Martin Mcdonagh best film. the rest are overhyped. and like a lot of irish people im getting a bit fed up of seeing Brendan Gleeson in everything.

The rest were overhyped. and i have seen all them i couldnt see what all the fuss with the gaurd but i will concede that i thought Don Cheadle sparring with Brendan Gleeson was terrific. Calvary was overblown in the hype department. three billboards was beautiful to look at with great performances with Mcdomand and Rockwell. i i think this best stuff of the year stuff is nonsense. my pick for best for best film was manchester by the sea. but that went home empty handed. 2015s best film was inside/out. a masterpiece on every level.
