Maybe because Portugal attacked us first, they attacked a fishing vessel and killed one of our civilian. So technically what India did was a retaliation not an attack.

@@KingFisherN24 many possibilities that during this period the Americans were busy with Indochina modern day Vietnam and as you know that only America is the strongest among all NATO members, so that's why they decided that this was internal matter of india and Portugal. We have good relation with France and Britain dont want to intervene in India after their departure and one thing more that at that time USSR is a big factor and Americans also didn't support the colonial system. In my opinion this is the only reason .

I am thankful to the Portuguese and French for setting colonies in goa and pondichery because of them we got such a nice places.. even today pondicherry and goa had European influence.. I live goa ..it's indeed mini portugal or christain part of India..even today goa and portugal have fine relations..some of the politicians are of goan origin... I love goan food...

Of course it was good without basic human rights to local Goans. where rest of India was able to have satyagrahas, Goans could not. Even women n children were not spared from Lathi charge or getting beaten by Portuguese police brutally. Please read accounts of Goan freedom fighters before being thankful for their rule. Also do you know about the period of inquisition? Please read.
