Thank you for the honest review of you fralap machine. Knowing you have been on this journey to master the jam peg machine style of cutting, I honestly thought you were crazy! Lol! I'm not a faceter at all, and other than someone who would like to learn, I have no opinion that means anything. You being a fabulous cutter of gems, and someone who is always on a journey to better yourself, and if anyone could back step and restart learning to facet gems the way that the old master gem cutters do, and do it well, that person would be you. And thank you for the honest review of this machine. It is a very intimidating machine at first glance. Without the strict angles and numbers to set the cut at, it's leaving too much up to chance. But for someone that already has that muscle memory of cutting for so long, it is, I'm sure, much easier for you. I'm just in awe of all your accomplishments. And I'm sure the maker of the fralap machine appreciates your review of it. Thank you Justin!

Thanks for the kind words. It is a little crazy to jump into this machine but it’s been very fun and rewarding and it’s ended up being a great challenge to my skill set and mentality.

Sorry my English is too basic to put you through this.

Thank you for this information and nice to see you on here. I recognize the name from the Forum des Lapidaires. I would love to meet in person and talk about the French technique. Can you email me? Justinkprim at gmail dot com

Regarding the angle block. If the disc is not spinning, potentially it is not level with the base, the spinning of the disc effectively makes it level with the vertical shaft. Plus, if you have diamond paste on the disc, it can contaminate. I would recommend leveling it on the metal case. And because the rotation can change the reading if your table isn't level, make sure to zero at the same rotation or level your station first. Ps. I'm not a faceter I just enjoy understanding your techniques. Maybe one day I'll start facetting stones, but the investment cost is very high for a hobby I'm not sure I'm going to keep my interest in. So please don't see my comments at critiquing you, I'm just sharing my thoughts hoping it is of use ❤

It’s possible the lap and the top of the machine aren’t perfectly parallel which is why I use the lap to do it. There is no free diamond on the cutting disk so no chance to contaminate. If the reading changes a tiny bit due to lap rotation that’s ok. As long as it’s not changing 1 degree, I’ll be ok.

Hello, I really enjoy your content. I followed a piece of advice you gave in a video a while back, I went to sri Lanka a bought a sterling faceting machine. I was planning on buying laps from gearlose, I realize now they are no longer manufacturing these. Do you have any recommendations for a bat lap alternative around Bangkok?

Unfortunately no. You can find copper and zinc laps at somsit but I never found a tin lap in Thailand or Sri Lanka. Now ultratec is selling batt laps so you should be able to order from them.

The last time you discussed the Cam shaft, I couldn't see how it could deal with different size stones. The only way I can see this working is a cam shaft reader that applies a configured ratio, which then pushes on the standard. This could literally be a compass like mechanism that goes up and down and depending on where you position the reader and writer on the arms, you get a different ratio.

As it spins, the cam pushes against the girdle cutting plate and pushes the stick up and down following the shape of the cam.

@@JustinKPrim so, there isn't a problem with applying the cam shape to a smaller stone than the cam template? I'm surprised! Well, it's not like you are going to use the custom shapes as you explained in the video

@@krasbestendig No because the girdle cutting platform goes up and down so you can set it to match the size of the stone.
