Fragging Hammer Coral With a Dremel and Giving Them Away

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Learn how I frag hammer corals in this episode!!
I don't have a bandsaw for cutting coral so a knockoff Dremel is the next best thing! After asking the best way to cut this particular type of euphyllia I felt more confident. I always suggest doing as much research as you can when fragging corals you've never fragged before.
I challenge you to pay some coral forward. Make another reefer's day with some free coral. It felt good to share the love with other local hobbyists!

It shook too hard and spit every little color tip off. Ended up with about 100 specs on my counter top, placed it in the water and zero color. Ugh. One of those live and learn moments. Diamond wheel is the way to go, I used the regular wheel and it sprayed everything everywhere. Any dremel will do fine even the ten dollar ones. My hammer died off and had 2 heads and I cut off the worst one but in the end it all died. Any suggestions in keeping them alive Remy? I have been dosing nitrate and keeping nitrate from 3-6 ppm with neo nitro as you suggested to me before, I just don't want to go overboard so I kept testing everyday and once it got to near 10, I stopped. My frogspawn has gotten a little better but still touchy, mushrooms have improved a little too.

How is PO4? That's another nutrient to keep in check. I think WWC keeps their phosphates around .02. You can also target feed reef roids or coral max.

@@BahamaLlamaCoral , test that all the time too(I am a number chaser I guess, but don't know what else to go off of), been at .00-.03 for a few weeks but got a .06 today so I put in some phosguard. Every time I used reef roids, my phosphate goes up so I am only doing it once a week. Coral Max, does it affects PO4? I know a lot of people use benepets, a few recommended coral feast, and now the new thing is red sea AB+(that raises PO4 too they said). A lot of options out there but when my PO4 was zero, I was getting hair algae so I think it was consuming all my PO4.

That's a good idea! It's tough because there are so many ways to go about setting up new tanks. My guess is that it wasn't the light and it was probably your water parameters. Don't let that discourage you though! Keep researching and you'll eventually become a coral master.

Yikes. Sorry to hear. Like BLC(Remy) said good water parameters are paramount. I would treat this as a new tank situation. Your bio load and bio filtration are going to be way out of balance now and will need time to equalize. Test water for ammonia nitrite and nitrate daily just to be sure. I would also do many (5+)20% water changes over the course of 3 weeks. You don’t want to stress the tank anymore than it already is so slow and steady.

Welcome to the addiction! I posted these to "ST LOUIS AND SURROUNDING AREAS REEF COMMUNITY." It's relatively new and since SLASH doesn't allow posting coral I usually go there.

I think it's St. Louis & Surrounding Areas Reefing Community. It was formed after one of the other frag selling/trading groups was shut down.
