Thank you Srijith! This video is brilliant. So much valuable info and it's all very well researched. Thank you so much! To prepare for becoming a freelancer I've read a short book called "Starthilfe für Freiberufler" by Claudia Wanzke, watched a bunch of videos and read articles on websites. In addition I'm reading "Selbstständig machen" by Melchior Neumann and also "Selbstständig machen" by Damian Collins. Now I'm filling out the form on ELSTER. Your video confirms everything I've learned and I feel much more secure filling out the form and sending it. I hope the Finanzamt will be quick to send the confirmation letter containing the Steuernummer. Kind greetings and have a nice day!

Hello Srijith, thank you for your reply. I'm currently reading up on a few freelancing topics that I'm still unsure about. I bought two books and I added their names to my original comment. I filled out the ELSTER form 10 days ago on May 12th. I'm already working, so no time is wasted. But I'll be happy and less nervous once the letter from the Finanzamt arrives. :) Thank you again for sharing valuable content with us. @@SrijithKariyattil The thing is even all the German people find Elster difficult. So for us foreigners and especially me whose deutsch is not so good. This is a really useful video.

Thank you for your amazingly detailed and helpful videos. I have a question re: Section 14 - if we have rental or other employee income from outside Germany, do we include those too on this section?

Hey Payal, Tax Questionnaire is a mandatory step for starting all commercial and freelance activities in Germany. Section 14 only relates to Income from these activities and not other forms of rental or employee income.

Thanks for the video! I just didn't get, talking about first and second year, do we mean calendar year or do we count starting from the beginning of work? Now it's almost December, so I don't expect to earn much till the end of 2023

Hey Ramesh, Jointly assessed spouses/life partners are listed under a common tax number.
