FPS Project "Crimson Prime" Devblog 1 - Weapon Customization

First actual devblog showing weapon customization implemented into the game. Started working on the game again this summer (very hard to work on it during University time). More will be coming soon! :)

    AAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE COSTUMIZATION AAAAAAAAAAAAA (I was litterally jumpin in place with my laptop in hand watching this) Seriously though AMAZING and best of all, YOU GOT SILENCERS RIGHT!!!!!11!! WHOOT Ok. On to serious business now, (I'm still too excited to give a damn about spelling and grammar right now) this is magnificent. The attachments are bieutiful and I love everything about them. (except for the Eotech sight, which the crosshair is too small for) also, can you make different magazine sizes (extended, drum etc) and maybe a grenade launcher? I like the idea of driving though sounds like a much higher priority. The reload is a little too fast but it looks better than the previous itteration. What's with the lack of sound? I've found two other games that run on unity and both don't have reload sounds either, is this a limitation with unity itself? Or you just don't feel the need to add them in..

    All that excitement brings me joy! Thank you. To answer your questions: EoTech will be changed ofc, trust me when I say everything you see shouldn't even be called a prototype, a LOT will change (not be removed, mind you, on the contrary). Yes different magazine types will be added, grenade launchers and more (also bipods where you can place your weapon on and control it from there to heavily stabilize it should you wish (that will be implemented later on). Driving is a priority yes, and interaction with vehicles. The reload does not have sound right now but I plan on adding it of course! ;)

    OK, now that I'm more level headed, I'd like to apologize for the "requesting" I'm sorry that I went full "OMG Y U NO UPDATE OMG OMG OMG ADD (insert random insane thing that isn't possible in any way) AND MOOOREE THINGGGS!1!!!!1!!" Now to "serious" business. Unless you plan on Eyeball-Zoom being in the final, I'd suggest moving the scopes a little closer to the avatar's face. Now, moving: although many people don't like it much, I'd recommend having a little more "bounce" to the step, not head bob, mind you because no one likes that, I mean that as the player avatar moves, the view would stay centered but will change altitude a little. Do the laser sight(s) and flashlight actually work or are they just aesthetic for now? Questions: Are you planning on adding weapon degradation, cleaning, and jamming sometime? it seems like a forgotten tidbit that makes just that much better, although from what I've seen FC2 didn't pull it off very well...not entirely sure how to make it better, but just a question. 2. Are you the only one coding at the moment? I'd like to help as soon as I learn how. Or at least do some modeling of the weapons. Oh, and last but not least. The damn dropbox don't work again, I'm not sure if it's my broken as hell computer or the fact that I'm in the EU instead of US, all I know is the links just don't work. Also, since you moved the devblog over to youtube, I'd recommend that you include links for the download of most if not all your projects (Side or main) it sort of acts like an advertisement in that it gives people a taste of what's to come and what to expect kind of like saying "Stay tuned for more!" as well as making it easy for people such as myself to get quick access to your stuff since they(I) can't navigate your devblog as well as they(I) should.

    No harm done :) Game's not even out yet I'm already having fun conversating with someone who hasn't even played it, makes me more eager to listen to the community! Responding to your "serious" business: Eyeball zoom will remain in the final, yes. All attachments will be tuned hundreds of times until I and the future testers feel them to be finished. Weapon movement will be re-looked at, priorities at the moment remain making things work "under the hood", what you see happening to your weapon is the easiest thing to code ;) Answering the questions: Yes, yes (repairing, not cleaning though), very likely. I'm the only one in anything right now, thank you but I'm afraid i'm not looking for help right now, but please do model anything you feel like modelling! I'm planning to definetly add support for player mods and workshop integration. Dropbox links get deleted by me (who i forget to remove from here) and the game will later be parsed onto Itch.io when I feel like its in a playable state. I completely agree! The devblog is extremely outdated and pretty much abandoned at this point. I just keep it for laughs at what the game looked like when I made some initial things. Im going to start to provide links for itch.io and facebook (where i post all the news). So hopefully things will get more organized and easier to keep up with now. Doing this as soon as I finish writing this. Like now?     i need this! im working on a game too, can you help me around with how to get these custom weapons in game? i mean, im working in blender atm for the animations, i started with knife ones but now i was going to start animing the mesh for a m4, but i believe thats not how i should start since i need my weapons to be customized and used in game, so what exactly should i animate, only the arms? i mean, with the m4 and then delete the m4 and then use unity to parent it to a bone after its customizable?

    Hello! Its very simple, just think about it, the essential moving parts in a weapon are those you seldom change. For example on the AK I just animated the charging handle and the player's arms. Everything else is a static object. As for the bones in the gun I usually have ChargingHandle, BulletCasing, (all player hand bones) and Magazine :) During animation I parent some objects to the bones to see how it looks, then when im finished I unparent everything and then in unity I make specific "containers" for toggeable objects. For example inside the magazine bone you have a MAGAZINE gameobject which contains 3 types of magazines. But to summarize, animate that which is essential. Everything else is a separate object. Weapon customizationg is nothing more than the toggling of objects. Things complicate when some attachments have other attachments. But good luck! ;)

    Hello! I'm thinking of doing some tutorials soon on how to begin making an FPS shooter (including 3D Blender Modelling) :) If you want a very simple basic way of doing this: Add gameobjects to the gun (basically all the attachments), then control them with an array to activate and deactivate them It's likely how I did it in here (was 3 years ago eheh). There are different ways of doing it of course but this one gets the job done quickly. Any questions , feel free to ask!

    Dont expect to always be told how to do something, if that were so Unity would be a walk in the park and we'd be flowing my cheaply assembled crap games. Like everything, practice makes perfect. :) Now you go and try to do it! PS: Something like this isnt as abstract as you think. It all comes down to enabling, disabling and moving game objects.

    Stryker Torstein I know what I said sounded boring but when you have no experience in ue4 or unity, you need a simple easy to follow tutorial that doesn't drag on, and so far I've not found a single one
