Like I said before but I will add on my 4k TV i barely notice a difference in the clarity of the imagine but what I do notice is just how smooth the animations are and how much better the game plays as a result.

Played Skyrim and fallout 4 so much I just installed them again to test it out and just uninstalled them. That’s how bored I got quickly

It really is staggering that these resolution and FPS improvements are being achieved without touching a single line of game-code.

Resolutions are untouched i think, maybe not for Skyrim i don't know. Skyrim ran at 1080p flat at 60fps on my Series S. It's easy to notice if it's 900p or lower. Else i'd guess they upped resolution of 900p games, which none of them are that i tested. Still blurry 900p at higher frames.

“But we counted 9 times throughout a 30 hour game where the frames dropped to 58 FPS at 4K, I have to say, I was quite disappointed to see this, I mean, that’s two whole frames, now granted you can’t ever detect this in an average play through, but if you zoom into this puddle at 600% you can see the pop in, this is so unfortunate.”

On one hand, NV was based on FO3 assets, remastering would require updating all those assets and Bethesda might want to lead the way for a FO3 remaster - otherwise a remake would require a complete... remake. Obsidian obv had their hands tied as far as licensing goes but now they're likely waiting on Bethesda to take the lead, given shared assets, and I doubt it's a priority for them at this time. Not to mention Bethesda would likely want an artistic decision in how newer FO games look. Even though both are at Xbox I'd imagine it to be mostly handled by "bethesda" teams.

I would have loved if you tested and compared the 60fps Ultra+ mod for FO4 which was specifically made for the series x. The uncap fps mod is kind of old and only unlocks the FPS while the newer one also changes some settings to PC ultra and beyond ultra.

Skyrim or FO4? I have tried all the 60 fps mods for FO4, and I'm sticking with that one BUT I'm adding one to remove volumetric lights like godrays, cause otherwise the mod by itself will cause stuttering near trees, bushes etc. Ofc some people will live with that, the mod is great and performance in downtown Boston is remarkable. But I'd rather compromise some effects to get more stable fps. I was wondering why the "720p 60fps" mod was performing so much better than the new one and then I realized it automatically gets rid of godrays too, and some ambient lighting. In the end, it's best to have different options/approaches. 4k perfect 60fps with all effects seems not to be possible on this engine on FO4.

@@sanda386Should have specified that I meant FO4. I have a VRR TV so I can risk using it with drops, and drops below my VRR range should be rare anyway. In all honesty, if you have VRR, then go for the best mods since drops shouldn't feel too obvious.

Rockstar will reject FPS Boost request from MS. They went to release a next gen “remaster” of RDR2. FPS Boost would cost them sales of that remaster

For anyone worried about the drops in frames remember, this is brute forced by series x not a recoding or remaster from Bethesda no need to worry

It's also new so it isn't a perfected system. If Microsoft keeps developing/bettering it. Well it should work out any current issues in later updates. If trying to be positive it should in long term allow to utilize the higher resolution along with the frame rate increase. Mind given Microsoft now owns Zenimax/Bethesda those games could more easily just receive a full on development patch. Though all is dependent on priority from Microsoft/dev companies. Given the little financial insensitive it is outside what is currently being done. I don't expect too priority to put to much time, manpower, and money. Still what is being done is commendable and great in my opinion.

That game choked down to 90 plus frames. Just turn on the frames counter on your xbox and it will show you the frame rate as you play

Is there any difference with running the game at 1080p on the Series X vs 4k? Whether specifically in these titles or in general overall. I'm considering getting the Series X but I only have a 1080p tv. I didn't know if the system always calculates/outputs 4k and then just downgrades it to 1080p if that's what you have... or if it calculates it in engine at 1080p instead for a slight potential boost.

Couple of glaring omissions from their testing. I found the frame rate is FO4 unstable when auto hdr was also enabled, did they test this? Also when playing fallout 76 on a series s there is a lack of high res textures in any outdoor environment (ok in shelters). Why is this not mentioned? Has that been fixed?

Xbox is killing it. Playing prey at 60fps! It’s an awesome game I’ve never played before

Bc I play XBO X (XB1X) at 1080p, usually with framerate boost options, I don't normally see performance drops -- especially for games locked at 30 but with enhanced assets and supersampling at 1080p. It was sad that FO4 didn't have a fps boost for 1080p, but at least we had the other enhancements. Are those retained for XBSX but locked to 1080p for FPS boost mode, or does the Series X lose all the 1X visual enhancements in addition to resolution?

2:46 what is happening with the Series S version? It looks like the bloom is bugged, everything looks super bright

I wish Bethesda would just give a proper next-gen patch

If someone told me a year ago you would need to run fallout 4 at 1080p and still drop a couple frames with with a 12 tflop gpu I would have called you crazy. Just shows how important a good game engine is.

Really enjoying Skyrim a 2nd time with FPS boost. Adding Fallout 4 to my ever growing back log.

@@Collymillad For me the settlement building is what really made me love the game. The ability to make my own areas and manage them was what kept me absorbed. Without them, I doubt I would've logged as many days as I did. The excellent world design helped a lot as well!

Apparently fnv has like twice the amount of side quests (i think all of them are better too) if we go off the fandom. Fo3 probably has less but they're really good. Fo4 does one thing really well and it's the gunplay

Is this not able to Hold a 60fps at 4k on the series x because its running the game in backwards compatibility? The raw power of the series x i would of thought these games would of run flawless? Hope there's a mod to switch either of these games to 1440p60fps eventually, seems like the sweet spot.

I would like to see how these titles (most titles actually) work at 1440p, as Series X and One X both offer that support. I assume it would still render at 4k and downscale, but wonder if the scaled down output would improved some of the minor dips.

Could you guys cover the Outer Worlds 60fps patch?

I would rather have Fallout 76 be what it is then have Fallout 5 suffer FO76 like controversies. Besides, FO76 is a MMOlite compared to the singleplayer Fallouts. Skyrim, shouldn't have had such a cost for a graphics upgrade edition, thankfully sales exist.

No if you do that it just shrinks the image on your screen to the upper right hand corner as if it's severely lowering the resolution or something it's very unplayable.

Do we assume outputting at 1080p on SX is more stable?

I play the games heavily modded. So I'm ok with the res hit for more performance. For those who want the resolution to remain high and don't mind a few small dips, just get the uncapped frame rate mod

i personally have series s and run these games heavily modded myself too. and i nearly hit 5gb limit on mods as well. surprisingly it runs at flat 60fps all the time, i was surprised how good series s is. :)

@@SeungminChoi Fo4 is the one I'm worried about. Even on my one X, parts easily drop to single digits performance and stuff will completely fail to load in. So if it's already that demanding with the mods I have, the series X just will not lock that to 60 and will still probably tank in Performance still. I do think it would have been better 1440p over 1080p though

There was no option for auto hdr so I'm guessing it wasn't a 4k TV.

I think there is a bug with Skyrim fps boost. after several times I shut down my xbox and resumed a game it had horrible micro stutters. if I quit the game and reloaded all the stuttering is gone. ive switched to quitting before each shut down and just loading up fresh and all stuttering has been resolved.

So since skyrim on the series x has some dips because of 4k, would switching the console to 1080p make it run any better? I've always wondered if not enabling 4k for certain titles actually makes them run better on console like on PC. I like when games offer the option of lower resolution if they can't run perfectly at 60 and run better on the lower one.

No, switching the console signal video output will not change the game's internal resolution. If it is running in 4K the console output will oversample/super resolution that down to 1080p and make a super clean and antialiased image for a 1080p TV or monitor.

Games render at their defined resolution no matter what resolution your console/tv is displaying. So no, making the console output 1080p won't fix those dips.

Interesting theory I saw somewhere is maybe Microsoft lowered Fallout 4’s resolution to 1080p so people can grow crazy with all the mods. There are videos online of people going crazy with the mods and the game appears to stay at 60. There would likely be significant drops if the resolution were higher. As for Fallout 76, maybe they got lazy and just ported over their Fallout 4 settings.

Yeah I'm doubting if using FPS boost and "offset" the loss with better texture mods or using 60fps 4k mods with godrays disabled which will make it stick to a stable framerate, and then try to offset the loss of those volumetric effects with some weather and lighting mods, which aren't very taxing and look really good.

I have the Skyrim FPS mod on my series X but cant get rid of frame rate drops/ visual testing, anyone got any ideas ?

Make sure fps boost is enabled in your settings. Fully quit out of the game to make sure it enables. Restart your console just in case. Make sure no fps mods are enabled in your load order.

At this point, its not the hardware thats the issue and is causing framerate drops. Its the software and the engine itself - whether its bad optimization, dodgy use of threads and hardware, etc. Their engine was used for Morrowind in 2002, and its still the same engine they use today, to the point that professional software engineers looking at the Fallout 76 code recognized some code from when they played Morrowind back in college! You can give an engine the best hardware in the world, but that doesn't make a difference if its utilized incredibly poorly

The only thing I've noticed is some facial animations in Fallout 4 are a little off. Mostly inside the Railroad HQ for some reason

This mod is better, it's what I used 1st. The resolution and draw distance remained, I was shocked how horrible the "fps boost" looked! By the way, after you reload the game after implementing this mod (the only way it works), you can then "disable" the mod, and continue playing "modless" saves, complete with achievements... 🎮❎🎮

I had just finished up a playthrough of Fallout 4 recently and after I got my PS5 I went back to test it and started a new save. I'm over 50 hours into my run and excited to play again. The game runs like it should and looks quite a bit better to boot.

Why this video doesnt have the option for 60fps?

It's nothing against the PS5 or Series X. It's a testament to the incompetence at Bethesda and their horrible engine that this 10-year-old game can't run at a solid 60 fps. Especially considering newer, more demanding, and much better-looking games can do it. Hopefully, with the Microsoft acquisition, "Bugthesda" will get cleaned up.

Does the FPS boost trick still work for 4K on fallout 76

About Fallout 76: i’ve noticed some menu elements blinking twice as fast which is not a big deal but the physics is where it gets interesting. On One X (or Series X without boost) the physics are in slow motion but with FPS Boost they run at double the speed. So now it’s actually more realistic, still it’a bit too fast but way better then no FPS Boost. It’s strange because FPS Boost was not supposed to double physics speed but in this case i’m glad it does!

I was honestly waiting for this. Thank you guys!!!

I wonder if with the FPS Boost you could create a mod to push it further into the 120fps range?

No. The engine isn't made for above 60. Skyrim will completely break above 60 and fallout 4 will run at like 10x the speed. Even with mods on pc, there's still engine issues

Xbox's approach to fps boost is completely different than a mod which changes game files.. You can't really "stack" boost like that.

Strangely enough, you can enable FPS Boost at 120Hz, but it makes the game target 120fps and causes the same engine issues as running the PC version when it runs at high framerates. I've tried FPS Boost with Skyrim on my Series X, and the intro scene's physics go crazy, not to mention the framerate keeps dropping to 100-110fps. I wouldn't want to try playing the game further like this, and I don't think anything like HavokFix exists on Xbox.

Has anyone experienced audio pops and ticks while playing Skyrim on Series X? DF didn’t mention anything that I saw.

Skyrim stutters to buggery on my series x. Menus don't work properly and loads of lag

The Series S shines more than I thought.

It’s like the One x, it always renders at the highest resolution then downsamples, so performance is the same

the pixelation in trees in far harbor is somethings that happens outside the fps boost, is a common problem of the PC version too with the godrays... and you just need to use a godrays mod

Imagine if we could enable FPS boost for any game and see for ourselves if it worked well or not. I'm sure I'd try a lot of games in 60 fps.

Great to see Series S having better fps in key spots. Hopefully more and more players will discover how great 60 is vs the 30 fps we were getting mostly throughout xbox one/ps4 gen. I can't go back to 30 anymore.

Well sorry pal, but plenty next gen games are going to be 30 fps in the future. When hardware is pushed properly devs will select a lower framerate, just look at the ps5 unreal engine demo

Any Xbox executable that is not Gen9 compilant can't access RDNA2 GPU feature set, or the 16 CPU threads, or AI hardware and so on. All rest software, Xbox OG, 360, One and OneGen9Aware titles see the Series X as a One X but with more GPU compute units and higher clockspeed, like a "Xbox One X2" but can't use any new architecture features.

There are mods in fallout 4 that up the game settings to ultra (one of them even goes beyond max pc settings) and it unlocks the framerate, from my experience there are drops but it’s the optimal way to play fallout 4 on the series x

The resolution drop on FO 4 is too aggressive. I can't imagine this game couldn't achieve a mostly solid 60 at 1440p.

It's because they can't touch the code with fps boost. It's sort of trick. I imagine they'll give a 4k option later. It's still possible to run 4k60 with some dips, either with quick resume trick or with the mod trick (and still getting achievements).

@@jackfreeman8790 I have a 1440p monitor so doing the 4k hack should display it at 1440p right? I'm not worried about the frame drops being that my monitor supports AMD Freesync tier 2. I just want the achievements because I've never played Fallout games until they arrived to gamepass.

It's because they can only do integer scaling. So either 4x from 1080p to 4K, of 9x from 720p to 4K.

It's really disheartening to see such a drop in resolution in Fallout. Personally I play in 4K/60 using tricks, and the game runs smoothly 98% of the times. Rich, Tom, please ask Jason Ronald to push for resolution in these games!

The framerate is much more stable now. I prefer this. You could always turn off the fps boost and use the 60fps mod instead.

@@SupertoastGT The problem is the precedent being set here. Is Microsoft going to gimp the console to a fraction of it's potential any time the framerate drops to 50fps more than 1% of the time? Everyone would be better off with the 4K60 mode on Series X, VRR makes these dips a non-issue.

@@budthecyborg4575 only people with vrr would be better off, the Xbox team have to choose between the Xbox one s version and the Xbox one X version with FPS boost. They choose 1080p 60 Vs 4k 44-60. Neither option is ideal but they can't set it to an ideal resolution in-between 1080p and 4k without a proper patch.

Nope you get the xbox one version. Series s does not get xbox one x patches.

FYI: the 720fps60fps mod on Series X can go up to 120fps if you have a 120fps TV. Mine has VRR too so any framedrops are unnoticeable. Hence, 4K 120fps graphically enhanced FO4 - amazing

I managed to get a PS5, Series x, Ryzen 9 5900x and a RTX 3090 all at release. No bots or paying scalpers, so do exist. I'm from the UK myself btw

I'm really happy with my Freesync monitor that has the VRR range between 40-60Hz. None of these drops bother me at all :)

What do you mean by test VRR? VRR works down to whatever range the TV/monitor supports. The 50-60fps range is where vrr shines and drops are hard to see. Anything below that you can feel but obviously not as bad as the 33ms frametime drops you would feel using normal vsync. He does very briefly mention it at 10:35

Here's a question(I haven't watched the the whole video yet so if they actually test this then just ignore) what happens if you use the unofficial 60FPS mod on the Xbox Series X/S AND FPS boost at the same time? Does this then push things to 120FPS? This could be a very interesting test that they should try out.

I'm so happy, I've been waiting for this video for days. Great content. And I'm more impressed by the Series S each day. This fps boost is such a good bc program by MS.

@@jackfreeman8790 🤦‍♂️ 1080p resolution vs 4K 4K is 4 times the level of quality of 1080p. Series X is running at 4K while Series S is running at 1080p. Gladly take very minimal frame rate dips for superior quality/graphics of the Series X.

60fps is all that matters to me along with a decent resolutions in Skyrim and Fallout 4.

I'm loving the FPS boost so far. It truly does make the games feel so much better, including the much improved input lag. Especially when moving in between areas in Prey for example. Give me the increased FPS over increased resolution any day, every day!

You can actually run the Fallouts at 4K and FPS Boost. You open the games with FPS Boost disabled, and then you pause and change games, making Fallout enter Instant Resume mode. Then you go to Fallout and toggle FPS Boost.

Nope, it is based on xbox one s which was again 1080p

I’m pleasantly surprised. Bethesda games were notorious for having bugs surrounding physics and framerate, so seeing it translate this well is surprising.

Looks like I was wrong AND right.... I thought FPS boost was better than the MOD as I found the MOD really rocky. Now, could this possible be because the MOD doesn;t like VRR? Because I tested Skyrim with both the MOD and then FPS boost both with VRR and when I used FPS boost I did not notice any issues that I did with the MOD. I was clearly right that 4K is RUINING performance in todays gaming and 1440p should be the go to - as demonstrated by the Series S here. After trying The Outer Worlds after the 60FPS update I gave that up due to HORRENDOUS stutters and hitches, and went to Prey with FPS boost - my experience with Prey so far has been FLAWLESS.

Fun fact: If you use the unofficial patch together with fps boost function, your fps doubles to 120.

@janne I unfortunately gave or sold all my crt tvs. I almost bought a Sony PVM last year for aboit $1500 but waited. Now they are a lot more. I really just wanted one for all my old consoles like neo geo. I doubt that I would seriously play a modern console on a crt though. I mean I would for sure try it for fun. Crt is definitely king for retro but no eay for modern consoles. All it can really be better in is motion. You definitely sacrifice resolution, color, size and widescreen. I don't care what Digital foundry says. I've had my xbox, ps2, 360, ps3 all hooked up to crt and even 1080i widescreen crt all with the best video connections. It doesn't hold a candle to my 75 q8fn.

I don't think the Super resolution feature will be used for backward compat games. Different architecture. Backward compat games mimic old gen hardware (GCN) and new gen games use full RDNA2 architecture that includes Super resolution (DLSS).

Well, Xbox has DirectML which according to themselves is better than AMD's solution and can be applied to any game, imagine running internally at 1080p with ultra graphics and upscaling it to 4K Without loss of quality.

I feel like I'm getting stuttering when in towns like Riverwood and Whiterun then it smooths out when I leave. Just started playing earlier today.

Is this Skyrim enhanced edition or the old one?

Series X needs to go to 1440p/1620p to keep a locked 60fps. Wish they would do this for these games. Dips into the 40s are jarring and take so much away from the experience. 1440p vs 4k? Almost no one would care or notice much of a difference.... but they damn sure would notice a difference in a solid, locked 60fps (which every game should aim to achieve this gen) vs dips into the 40s when stuff is on the screen.

@Steps Can't or don't want to put in the work to do it? Bethesda could literally do anything they wanted with the code it would just take more work. Before, consoles couldn't run anything over 720p, then they changed the code to the game. Same thing can happen here, it's just the amount of work they put into it.

As I have stated 4K is a joke. 1440p is the way to go, Series S demonstrates this - YET AGAIN

For Fallout i've disabled FPS Boost and decided to use the 60 FPS Series S/X Ultra Settings 90 FOV mod which also allows you to play with achivements, this mod applies the PC ultra settings on consoles and FPS is uncapped.

Heard the 1080p 60 mode on XSX is a bug.

This video shows why locked native high resolutions are bad. Performance should always be the priority. Otherwise FPS Boost is great and got me to finally start Fallout 4 on Xbox.
