    Anyone wanting to save some $$$, the tread pitch of the bleed port is 6-32NC. A die for it is ~$5USD. Can rotorary file and re-thread cheap brass fittings to work. No need to spend the additional $45 for a tool from Fox.

    No specifically on this, but generally what happens is exactly what you expect, i.e. slight reduction in damping force at a given setting.

    Thanks so much for sharing. I just finished, this is my first attempt at rebuilding a shox. The only thing is the shock is incredibly hard to compress. I have to put it on a table and put all my weight on it to get it to cycle. I assume I did something wrong here right? As soon as I let off, it extends out quickly. I did 300 psi for the IFP per the Fox spec. Any idea what I did wrong?

    That sounds more or less normal. Try putting it in the bike with no spring and see if you can cycle it easier. Also adjust the rebound to the slowest setting and the return should be much slower.

    If the wave spring is broken, your compression damping adjuster will have no effect, because the oil can flow through the check valve both ways. Checking for this ahead of time will save you from having the buy the additional shaft clamp set and do the work@@MTMXBL

    Hi, just had my Van RC serviced but I can feel slightly free-move at the very beginning of the travel (like 5mm), and then suddenly the compression damping starts to work. The compression adjuster definitely works - I can feel differences turning it open or off once after that beginning of the travel, but not before. Could it be air bubbles not out completely? or might be something else? thank you in advance.

    Hey, i've seen comment some place about degassing the damper fluid with a vacuum pump before bleeding. Any comment on that?

  • @simonszoke1479

    @simonszoke1479

    2 ай бұрын

    Considering that a lot of Fox shocks aren't even bled properly from the factory, I think it's not a high priority. I've bled shocks with my home-made machine bleeder and also by hand and noticed no obvious difference. I think degassing is overhyped. Maybe someone else can point us both to data on this? I haven't seen any.

    Great and helpful video, thank you for this! One question: I‘m considering to get a Marzocchi Bomber CR (which should be pretty much identical), but I‘ve read that 1) the shimstacks are heavily preloaded and 2) the rebound seems to be pretty stiff/overdamped, especially for lighter rides. Therefore there seems to be some potential for tuning. Do you have any opinion on that? Thanks again :)

  • @simonszoke1479

    @simonszoke1479

    The above statement is dependent on the tune of shock you're getting. They have firm, medium, and light options for both compression and rebound tunes.

  • @carstenl7065

    @carstenl7065

    17 күн бұрын

    @@simonszoke1479 That is true, but from what I have read so far it seems that at least all aftermarket Bomber shocks come with M/M tune and that the other tunes are mostly found on OEM versions. Do you have an opinion on the shock design in general (belleville washers on the basevalve, piston flow, tuning potential, etc.) and the M/M tune specifically? For the 216x63mm shock I plan to use a 550 or 600lbs spring and think I might hit the rebound flow limits with it.

  • @simonszoke1479

    @simonszoke1479

    16 күн бұрын

    @@carstenl7065 I didn't actually realize that all the aftermarket ones are M/M tune! I think you are right though based on my quick search. It's kinda pointless to get this shock if you are looking for tunability because you can just get a dhx2 that is externally "tunable" aka adjustable to a much greater extent. I don't have much of an opinion on the shock from a performance standpoint though because I never really played around with it. Sounds like you already did more research on this than I have. The lack of climb switch makes this a rare shock around my region. I see the Bomber CR mostly as a beater shock for shuttling/bike parks, but it's not super good at it because the spring washer under the base valve tends to break often and the shaft wears out.
