Fox Factory 36 GRIP2 Fork Review | 🔥The Hottest Fork On The Market!

Спорт

When it comes to mountain bike suspension forks, it's pretty apparent that the Fox 36 is the hottest on the market.
But why? Does the king of all forks live up to it's reputation?
In this video Mike explains how the Fox 36 performs and holds up, and why it's not only his favorite piece of mountain bike gear but also why it's our best selling fork here at The Lost Co.

@@billblow5739 does your lyric have the charger 2 or 2.1 damper? I think those feel pretty great. The grip 2 also feels pretty great. If you had a 36 with a fitgrip, grip, or fit4, it feels completely trash compared to the grip2 imo. I think a rockshox fork with a motion control, R/RL chargers or charger 1 damper feel like hot garbage competitively. But the charger 2 is rad and feels plush as hell while giving you a lot of control parameters. I would say the grip2 is more reliable, I’ve never had to rebuild one. It’s usually a charger2 or a Fit4 if i have to fix a new damper. The Fox lineup is also a little more stanced In that they didn’t need to develop a totally different air spring config to make it stay at full travel more often. The new debonair spring is just a borrowed mid stroke dimpled negative chamber that Fox use in the evol spring first. The Charger 2.1 is just rockshox take on a hybrid circuit damper like the grip2. I think rockshox high end stuff is awesome. But most consumers in our area would choose the Fox setup of money was not option. Not that either company prices super competitively haha

Got one on my new bike. Have been running a 34 with fit 4 before and it is a world of difference! 160mm on mine and it's awesome. I've always been the lockout guy, but with correct lowspeed compression adjustment, ypu can climb this thing without lossing energy on diving into the travel. Awesome, but it's goddam pricey! All in all, recommendation!

All things considered, mountain biking is cheaper than motocross. Generally speaking, the bike is less, maintenance is less, riding areas are closer to home and typically free, and one needs less protective gear. Mountain biking may be stealing participants from motocross as moto has priced many people out of the sport. One can get into MTB at a decent level for 5 grand. Not so much with motocross.

Great review, I must say It is a great looking fork. But I will never buy a Fox product again after such poor luck with their products. Last season I sent back my X2 back to be warrantied twice. When I bought a new X2 for my Enduro bike the screw which allows the air canister to be opened stripped out after one turn because it was installed so tightly. But I have not only had poor luck with their shocks, I just sent my 2017 36 back to Fox because for the second time this season the air spring has failed. I'm only 160 pounds so it's not like I'm riding the shit out of these things. In the three years, I rode my RS Yari I didn't have a single problem, so from now on, I'm sticking to RockShox, or I am going to experiment with other products such as the EXT Storia and Push Industries suspension.

That being said if they upped the stanchions to 38 and still kept the 34 internals they would be strong as hell, the stanchion walls would be 4mm thicker than the 34s, if they go for new internals them things are going to be pricey as hell. I know this video is 4 years old, but maybe you will see this anyways. I just got a Cannondale Trail Se hardtail, with a 120mm coil fork, and I need an upgrade. I am looking at getting either a Fox 34 140mm or a Fox 36 160mm at the same price, and both are Factory models. I am guessing the 160mm is too much, so I would be converting the 36 to a 140mm, adding extra cost. Is it worth it to get the Fox 36, which I could turn back into a 160mm fork if needed some day, or just get the 34 140mm? If available, I was thinking of 130mm for the 36 model. I like the Fox 36 for the extra features and extra beefy legs, over the 34, but knowing that either will be a huge upgrade over the coil fork I have now. I am 240+lbs, so a bit on the heavy end... Thanks in advance.

Love my 36. Rides as well if not better than my mates lyric with coil conversion except I only paid once. Huge step up from my old 100mm 32 RST to 170mm 36 Factory, but I reckon I earned it with almost 10yrs on the old setup.

@Andrew's Adventure both amazing, I think you would have to be doing some serious riding on both forks to come to a decision, but not many of us have the time or cash for that which is why videos like this help, a bit. It would be very cool to see one rider two identical bikes, but with 36's grip2 on one and lyrik ultimates on the other and have a proper shootout.

For me it's the best fork out there ,(the Ohlins too ) as long as they don't start creaking, this goes a long way back and fox just replace the CSU (crown steering unit) but when do we get a definitive fix? Otherwise yeah, the best fork on the market

I’ve had thousands of forks come through the shop, but I’ve never seen a high end CSU from Fox or SRAM go bad in any way except having it replaced for stanchion damage. Replace a lot of lowers. But I’ve never had a CSU have a defect. Which is crazy now that i think about it.

Glad my Patrol came with the 36 performance elite, although I've been riding it for 8 months and still feel like I don't really understand it. Watched so many videos and even hired a coach. The rebound is a pain to adjust with the cover too. Probably one dial is enough for most people. I think the Rockshox Pike on my old bike was a little smoother off the top, but way less support and control.

Most riders don't even need these high end forks or others of the same kind. Mid range should be enough for most to grown into. If i had a bike shop i would be trying to sell the best of the lower and mid tier products, things that would actually benefit the consumer.

I just have the Fox 36 Performance with the Grip Dampener instead of the Grip 2. Off the top the small bump compliance is crap. Mid travel support and large hits are great but it's just stiff off the top of its travel. Think I might have to upgrade the internals to the Grip 2 air Spring and Evol Dampener.

One thing that I think is quite rediculous is that in order to remove the air cap to emplace Volume spacers one must go and buy a socket for 40 bucks. After spending 1200 on a fork you would expect the air cap to fit a common sized socket.

  • @mattdudester9037

    @mattdudester9037

Agreed that most sockets won't slip but you can grind a 32mm socket flat, or use an open end wrench and put a little painters tape around to make sure any slips don't mar the paint.

Here's a plan: 1)Get a nice coil setup 2)Set it up for you 3)Thank me later. ;) Sometimes a little weight has a big payoff....and a coil will always get you back. Ever tried to ride a collapsed air fork or shock back to the trailhead? Better performance, better reliability, and (should be) lower cost. I've ridden coil exclusively since I got tired of air failures over 15 years ago. I can't think of any other offroad machine out there that uses air suspension...
