I've heard that too. My friends confirmed that during location filming for Not The Nine O'clock News at the end of the shoot Mel Smith, Pamela Stephenson and Griff Rees-Jones happily came out to meet the crowd, chat and sign autographs, Mr Chuckles Atkinson just glared at everyone and ran for his car.

this is the most british thing i have watched in weeks and i absolutely love it. will definitely give this show a watch.

It just goes to show how times have changed. The line "I don't want to have anything to do with murdering coppers" used to actually mean something up until the early 90's in Britain. If you ended up in prison for murdering a copper in the line of duty, you would be in for a rather rough time. Obviously there will be some inmates who hate the police and would probably worship you, but they would be in a minority as the majority of people in prison aren't necesarily bad people, they have just done someting bad and may take a dim view of someone who killed someone else just for doing their job. Your biggest problem would be coming from the guards though, if you ended up in a fight, they wouldn't be in much hurry to sort things out and then you may be on the recieving end of a few beatings behind closed doors.

Commissioner are senior management and are above inspector, which were just the rank given for police officer iacting has detective, their uniformed counterpart simply having the title of peace officer. Officer, however, in France, aren't your bread an butter police constable like in the USA, they're middle management.

David Haig was marvellous in this. He also did a pretty good turn in a classic Dr.Who story, The Leisure Hive, in 1980. It's always good to see Mr. Haig!

Bean would have had a similar mask he bought for Halloween. He was bored of queuing so just before the robbery he' put the mask on in the toilets...........

any role he plays becomes iconic.

@@Ksho_o the certainly has, what's called, a global outreach. It's good to be busy, I'm retired now and watching mainly the Bundesliga. English football was the best in the past. Nottingham Forest was the best football club I'd had seen ever. You have a good life.

I had this on a cd as a child - in german - i got it from my grandma and loved it- had a different picture of it in my head and i just got the flashback of my live watching this - and its funny knowing rowan atkinson was behind it - explains why it was funny
