Fourth Year Commemoration of 2019 Easter Sunday Bombing Victims in Sri Lanka- April 21, 2023

April 21, 2023: A large number of Catholics, Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims marked the Fourth Anniversary of 2019 Easter Sunday terror bombing in Sri Lanka that killed 269 and injured over 500 people. Memorial mass and Candlelight vigil was held at St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church in Anaheim, California and mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Joseph Warnakulasooriya of Our Lady of Snows Catholic church in Frazier Park, California who hails from Negombo, Sri Lanka. Venerable Bogolle Sumana, incumbent abbot of Sri Rathana International Buddhist Center, Anaheim, California along with a resident monk, Ven. Kahataruppe Vajira, Nanda Kumar from Sri Lanka Tamil Sangam in Los Angeles and Faisal Buhari from the Los Angeles Muslim community participated in the commemorative event.
The event was held seeking truth and justice and asking the Sri Lankan government to uncover the real conspirators of simultaneous bombings of churches and several hotels during Easter celebrations in 2019. Successive governments are not revealing the findings of several commissions appointed to investigate on this matter, raising the doubts that the Easter bombing were not merely the work of religious extremists but a "grand political conspiracy". Apart from the people killed in the bombings, many of those who were injured are still struggling to move on with their lives; some are maimed and paralyzed for life. The Sri Lankan Government is still dragging its feet on delivering justice.

In the following years, the Sri Lankan government has failed the victims of the disaster without 'promised' justice. Sri Lankans in LA area gathered for the fourth time for this memorial event to ask for Justice. In 2020, US charged three Sri Lankans with terrorism offenses,The criminal case filed in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles is the result of a nearly two-year investigation by the FBI - Where is the Sri Lankan government on this?
