Fourie Du Preez - Master Tactician

Спорт

A lot of people would regard Fourie Du Preez as the greatest scrumhalf to ever play for South Africa, and that argument has its merit. He was a genius who was able to read the game better than anyone and what set him apart was his ability to make the right decisions at crucial times.
We have put together a collection of some of his best tries, but his genius was more than just scoring tries, he created opportunities for other players.
What a legend!
Enjoy and thanks for watching.

This kind of tribute video mostly shows the tries scored by "tributee" himself, but IMHO what FDP is most good at is 'let one of your teammate score' (I believe he is one of the reason why B. Habana amassed 60+ tries in Green & Gold).

Oh, as an aside, I know Fourie's nephew personally. I was told that FdP played for the love of the game, and his salary was a pittance, he is the heir of a mining company that left him with far far more money than SA rugby could ever pay him as a salary. A true "good old boy" of God's game.

Agree, du Preez filled the gaps that was missing in JVDW and that was always putting the team and game first in front of his individual brilliance and that was what made du Preez one of the best scrumhalves ever, if not the best ever, Aaron Smith from New Zealand I think has a similar approach as that du preez had.

His running style, especially at the acceleration stage reminds me of Joost. FvP the best scrummie we've had. Did EVERYTHING you need and more. Great pass. Great kicking game. Great anticipation. Great reading of the play. Great acceleration. Great support play. Only thing Joost was genuinely better at was defense, but du Preez was still more than decent there too.

No-one could ever snipe, break, strike, or scrap like Joost but FduP was the best since Gareth Edwards. But I never saw Gareth Edwards play so perhaps the best ever. Would have liked to see, just once, contemporaries Carter and du Preez play together. Add McCaw, Matfield and Bakkies and you have a winning team regardless of who makes up the numbers.
