this was literally the best math tutorial i have ever seen, this was a godsend.

| x | = +x or, -x | x | means absolute value of x. It means we will take only the magnitude ( positive value ) of x.

the equations i have to do doesn't have an answer... and Im graphing as well y = -|x+2|-1 how would i solve this? i am genuinely stuck

Simple. start by graphing |x|, which is like a V centered at the origin. Next, shift the argument: |x+2|, now the V has moved left 2 units from the origin. Next, -|x+2|, which reflects the V on the x-axis, now the V looks like an A without the horizontal bar. Last, shift the vertex, and everything else by 1 unit down. If you are looking for solutions, then you set y=0 to find where on the x-axis the graph intercepts. In this case, there are no intercepts on the x-axis. However the graph does intercept the y-axis at y=-3; thus, the point ( 0,-3) is the only intercept. Although kind of late, I hope this helps.

She's writing on the glass screen as normal. Then she either flips the video with software, or flips it optically with a mirror between the glass screen and camera.

Actually she wrote like us. She used an application ( app ) to convert the video. Like mirror image to actual image.

Because absolute value operations are not a one-to-one function. An absolute value graph looks like the letter V. There is a solution to the left of the vertex, and a solution to the right of the vertex, both of which you have to solve for, unless context specifies otherwise that you only care about one of the two solutions.

Alex Swanson yeah. It's annoying when education is just listen and do it. Truth is, these are all tools to do "real stuff". Math is useful in anything you need to calculate. Absolute value is useful in calculating distance. Somehow the tech behind GPS and Google maps is using absolute value. Does that help?

Agreed. _Some_ levels or form of math -- whether it's simple to advance-- is needed in some area in life. Same goes for any other field. When people ask "when will this ever be used" or "why learn this if it will never going put to use". That begs the question why have an education (and the institutions thereof) or go to school in the first place if you never going to put to practice or use. Schooling and education prepares you for the real world and one shouldn't go through life ignorant.
