If you liked this and want to give props to the guy with the balls who made it, please react to his work on Brass Eye and The Day Today. Chris Morris. He actually managed to fool the entire British parliament into banning a drug that does not exist. Trust me. Brass Eye and The Day Today are the gold standard of satire and spoof.

I was at the cinema in Bradford when this had its UK Premier. The reception, particularly amongst the Asian and Muslim population was huge. There were queues stretching right outside the cinema and around the corner. It was very well received as a comedy masterpiece and the reaction and atmosphere was incredible. A brilliantly done film. I went to a Q&A with the director and some of the cast when it came out. He got the idea from seeing a steady stream of news stories about prospective suicide bombers and terrorists being utterly incompetent and blowing themselves up. The film was (deliberately) misunderstood by the mainstream media here in the UK who chose to say it glorified or supported terrorism. Quite the opposite - but it did also give a glimpse into the thinking and beliefs of people being drawn into that way of thinking. Sometimes normal, otherwise decent, people can be deceived and led into doing horrible things. The best comedy also reveals truths.

The police raid on the brother (and the brothers character overall) was to highlight how clueless people (and the authorities in particular) are about Muslims and ‘extremism’. The brother who lived his life by the book may have traditions we don’t agree with in the west but he was hugely anti violence. The one who planned the terror attack in the name of Islam thought his brother was soft for living that life and you never see or hear him talking about religion in any meaningful way. He occasionally takes a few out of context parts to try and justify what he does.

One of the funniest and important comedies of recent times and the acting is phenomenal. I'm basically from the same background as the main characters and apart from the terrorism I felt like I actually knew these guys which makes the ending especially poignant, tragic and heartbreaking. 10/10 film and glad you guys enjoyed it. It's a shame most people have never even heard of it.

Initially Director Chris Morris apparently stuggled to get it financed for a while and so began exploring the option of crowd funding it, which was unusual for the time. Thousands of fans pledged to donate towards its budget. But Morris was then able to show this to investors and convinced film four to produce it instead. As a thanks to the fans, Chris Morris sent out film cells he had signed with a personalised message and I was lucky enough to get one. It's possible the whole thing was just a story to promote it and make it sound more controversial than it was but idk. The script was co-written by Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain who are better known as the writers of Peep Show. Chris Morris did a significant amount of work on the script but also years of research. You might be surprised how much the level of farce is inspired by true stories. The earlier work of Chris Morris was fantastic but i'm not sure how news satire from back then looks today- possibly indistinguishable from reality

It's VERY well worth watching the special features (they're on youtube), the research was meticulous for this. As many have said, very well received by the Asian community here, plenty of Muslim friends really appreciated the film. Amazingly quotable film and a masterpiece of tragedy. Waj - with that awful, tragic line "sorry lads, I don't know what I'm doing" is? was in What We Do in the Shadows. Great actor + Riz Ahmed - the main guy is carving out an impressive acting career (Sound of Metal is stunning) and Barry/Nigel Lindsay's in a whole bunch of UK tv.

As mentioned before, this was written by Chris Morris (Denolm Reynolm from the IT crowd). He said that his general premise for the film was that the typical narrative about terrorists painted them as well organised and meticulous. He hypothesised that there must be incompetent ones, so did a film about it. Chris Morris has never shied away from controversial topics. Definitely check out The Day Today and Brass Eye. I would start with The Day Today personally. If you watch that without listening properly you would think it was just a news programme.

I love this film so much - it’s the pinnacle of dark English comedy. It’s also the only film that made me sad for a terrorist. He was clearly low intelligence and didn’t understand what was happening but they convinced him it was right when he said it felt wrong. It was sad watching how his brother tried to talk him out of it in the end and he exploded anyway. The fact that he then decided to kill himself because he couldn’t live with it and not actually taking out any “infidels” was sad at the end.

Can't you match your sound levels to the sound level of the movie? If I turn my sound levels down, so the constant forced belly laugh doesn't break my eardrums I can't hear anything from the film. Okay, so I've watched the movie and have it on my Prime Movie account but it's so damn annoying.

@@EmbraceTheSuck21 I'm pretty sure you're taking things too far. How is having to give a forced laugh three times the sound level of the film every fifteen seconds evading the copyright rules? Well, it's working for me as I couldn't stay and watch it. I've watched you guys for years, and also liked the film enough I already have it from Prime but that was annoying.

Chris Smith spend a year or two visiting Muslim communities as research for the film. The community saw the terrorists as out of touch, lost, idiots. It’s a funny satire on how society portrayed them as bigger and tougher than the reality
