Glad to see you are doing so well. I had my ACDF fusion in February and my neck is doing very well. Thanks to you for letting me know how well you were doing back then. Your personal message gave me me courage to have my surgery. I was afraid I would never move my neck. I appreciate you being candid about everything. I can move my neck after surgery with no issues. My incision is healing beautifully.. Best wishes to you for continued healing !

Congrats! I took the full 12 weeks as my doctor insisted, but since I do a desk job I felt I could have started back within a week or two.

Hi Eddie. Walking a lot will ease the shoulder and back pain. I assume you're in a hard collar? I found that I was always tensing up my shoulders when standing/walking in a hard collar, which caused the muscles to stay tight. It took months to get them loose. I also had difficulty sleeping. It's only really been the last month where I am sleeping soundly, but I still do tend to wake up every couple of hours to turn over. But I always was like that so might not be related to surgery. Hang in there and keep moving! I am convinced that exercise, even if walking, is the most important thing to ensure a smooth recovery.

I've enjoyed these videos so much. I have surgery on the 23rd. I am glad you are doing well. I'm so sorry to hear about the fall. Was the passing out surgery or recovery related?

Thank you! Not related - I just woke up in the middle of the night with a severe stomach bug and fainted.

Have you tried playing golf again? I also have cervical myelopathy and have been wondering how long it will take to get back to it. I’m having my surgery next month. Mine is only 2 level. It sounds like I should count on a year. Are all of your pre-surgery symptoms gone? Thanks for sharing!

I did play once post-surgery. When I went to see my surgeon for my 7 week post-op appointment (typically it's 6 weeks but I had to wait an extra week due to his schedule), I was shocked when he said I could play golf and do most anything else. Basically no restrictions, but he did say, with regard to weight lifting, to ease back into that. I went to a local short course the next day. First swing (8 iron off the tee) and it was uncomfortable. I did about 7 holes of the 12 that course has before giving up. It was just too much too soon, especially when you consider I had just gotten out of the hard cervical collar the prior day lol. Golf is the only thing I haven't really gotten back to, mainly because I play pickleball 4 or 5 times per week for a couple of hours each, so that has my interest much more. But I do plan on playing sometime in the next month. I have no doubt I can. I don't think you will need to wait a year. But unlike the other movements, golf swings are so sudden and with such force, even an easy iron swing, that it's probably best to hold off until maybe 4 to 6 months out. Certainly ask your surgeon, but know that the timeline may vary after reviewing your x-rays post-surgery and with each consult going forward. Good luck!
