I bike to work almost every day for last 7 years and my students keep giving me advice about how I could use public transportation or even buy a cheaper car so that I could actually drive to work I explained to them that I Bike by choice and that it's a lot of fun good exercise besides lessening my impact on the environment. I have 3 bikes .. fat tire for wisconsin winter biking is a must

I like the idea of being FI, paying off the “big” things, then having more money for the small things👍

It is about the money--the amount of money you need to have to live on so you can maximize your time and your happiness without having to worry about money. It's a different place to be and most will never know the difference. The money buys our freedom. We don't need it to buy the world.

One thing is to look poor, which I don't care about, but another is to feel poor. We make plenty of money but live in a very cheap 100 year old rental. It has no insulation and single pane glass. In the winter we have the gas furnace and two electric heaters running and it still drops to 50F inside while getting the utility bills super high. I don't want that and I'll pay for a net zero energy house that's well insulated and air tight so that will not happen again and our utility bills go to near zero in the process.

i didnt have time to read this all but i have a question. Do you guys put all the money you save into a broker account meaning the taxable one or are you doing a split with roth iras and iras

larry smith Hey, Larry. I think it varies across the board but I imaging most use a combination of taxable and deferred. Many use the back door roth method as well. See the Mad FIentist, for example.

I would think a mix of cash, ira, 401k, taxable investments, real estate, etc.. Roth versus traditional doesn't really matter too much in the grand scheme of things. As long as you are investing. Avoid taxes if you can though
