Platinum PTL-5000A is 14K gold nib, and this one is 18K. Making it the one of the cheapest available 18K pens save for Pilot Vanishing Point which has a smaller nib.

It's really awesome pen. Especially when want to buy pen with maki-e in tight budget. I have ordered the same in ball pen type.

Hi Jake. I post my 3776 and I've noticed the cap has left a very fine mark on the pen as a result. Do you think that posting the Maki-e would affect the decoration over time?

I do. I just double-checked it and it posts right below the bottom crane. It may take a while, but it would probably wear down noticeably.

I think there are better pens for the money but if you want something that writes really well and looks nice, this is a good option.
