This guy seems like the most honest contractor on Earth. All of the dishonest ones make a big deal out of everything.

Yeah, it would be easy for a contractor to show those chunks that fell out of the foundation to the owner and say he needs to jack up the house and do a major repair. UGGG

I used Mike's techniques to repair my slab and foundation surfaces which had deteriorated due to our severe winter weather here in upstate New York. Came out looking almost better than when it was new. The hardest part was working on my knees under a 30' deck for a section that had crumbled away from under one of the block wall sections. I wouldn't want to do it again at my age (78) so I made sure to paint it twice with a good quality water proof paint. Never had done any masonry work in my life before tackling this job.

Thanks for the share. It is always nice to see people willing to tackle jobs. I am 10 years your junior and have always felt that a person needs to get in there and do it. I am aware of my limitations and act accordingly, just don't coddle myself. Mike is definitely "the man" when it comes to just getting in there and doing the job without a lot of fanfare. As Mike says, "It ain't no big deal."
Yes! The axe (well, mini axe) is back! Go old school! No big deal. Thanks, Mike!

I learn so much from your videos. My issue is inside my basement with plaster at the lower 24" of the walls damaged from a flood, falling down. There are several long vertical cracks in the concrete behind it, too. These were likely from a lack of rain gutters over time, which I've since had installed. (It's a 104 yr old home I bought 3.5 yrs ago.) I am looking for a good product to inject into the cracks after removing all the loose plaster and before covering them up, again.

Thanks PWN, I can't say about the brick, most brick are different and react differently when being cleaned, I would question the moisture problem, I haven't never remember seeing one unless rain water was getting behind the brick, thanks Mike

If the bricks are spalling this may be frost getting inside damp bricks. A foundation generally does not have a dpc at a lower level so moisture will rise from the subsoil. Paint or render can hide the problem for a sale but makes it worse as the water cannot escape into the air. Bricks below dpc should be engineering not facing bricks. A solution would be to replace a couple of courses with engineering bricks. They are heavy, strong and very dense. Not something that can be done in a day or in long sections as your house must be supported without sinking. First task, remove the render and any soil that can be kept away from the wall. If the bricks behind are wet, let them dry. Frost will not damage dry materials. Ensure there are no downspouts and the siding drips clear of bricks
@MikeHaduck
Жыл бұрын
@Roy Chatfield hi Roy. The big problem with home owners is there is no rain gutters or they are blocked or the land is not pitched away from the house and the water is going into or around the foundation, if those two things are kept up there is rarely any problem with foundations no matter what type of masonry was used, my experience, thanks Mike
We do need more young people in the trades there is a lot of contractors that will cheat people I got a price on sealing the chimmey for a friend of mine and the guy quoted him over 5 grand just to put a cap on it I was like no way we did the job for 1000 including materials. Good channel
