Found Cancer in my Chicken Meat 🐔
Ойын-сауық
Today I was quartering a chicken and found large masses of cancer in the chicken breasts. I have never seen this in chicken meat before. I have heard of cancer in pork meat but never seen it in chicken before. This is an example of why you should quarter your own chickens because you can see everything and discard the meat instead of just cutting around it. The grocery store refunded me and gave me a new chicken that was fine. In all my years first time seeing this. Let me know in comments if you have ever seen this before. #shorts

I raise meat birds. that is not cancer. It's called Deep Pectoral Myopathy. The condition is caused by intense exercise of this muscle in meat birds ( flapping hard, trying to fly, flapping hard at processing time).Meat birds are being bred to have bigger and bigger breast meat and because the tenderloin is so far down in the muscle it is enclosed in a relatively unyielding membrane, any swelling of the muscle tends to cut off the blood supply. Without adequate blood supply the tissue of the muscle begins to die, or suffer necrosis.

For anyone wondering, It's called deep pectoral myopathy or "green muscle disease", and it's a problem with heavy breasted poultry. The vessels are unable to supply enough blood to the muscle, with the result of death of the muscles affected. This is the result of chickens being so damn heavy from overt bioengineering they can’t sustain themselves

I’m a chicken 👩🌾 that’s not cancer! It’s called deep pectoral myopathy. It generally occurs when the chicken was scared at a younger age of its development. Being scared by something causes the bird to beat it’s wings rapidly, which causes bruising on the inner muscle. Due to the fact that the chickens that we have bread go to fully mature size with in just a few week 5-8 to be more exact, the inner bruise doesn’t have time to heal before new muscle has been put on the animal. This is going to happen in organic or non organicorganic chicken’s. This is not a pathogen related symptom and is totally safe to eat, but it does make the meat tough and dry. I’ve raised 100,000s of chickens, on my farm and other farms. All of the chickens I’ve ever raised I’ve been raised on pasture with no anabiotic’s, and no hormones.( sidenote, we don’t give hormones to chickens even in non-organic situations) even in my pristine pasture based, beyond organic system, the symptom still occurs. Although I think you should still buy whole chickens, and I think you should buy them direct from a local farmer! Cheers god bless!

Quality Control at a bird rendering plant. That's DPM (deep pectoral myopathy). Happens in birds bred for large pectorals and is caused by excessive use of the pectoral. During use blood flows into the muscle causing it to expand, but becomes constricted due to the fascia, leading to a poor blood supply and eventually causing necrosis. It didn't turn that color until after the bird had died, fresh it's usually mushy and red. It'll turn green over time. And yes, it does just get cut out. The meat around it is usually fine.
@NoOne-bp2jw

That said, if I paid for chicken, I want chicken, not DPM. After seeing it, my appetite would be ruined anyway.
@Thoroughly_Wet
11 ай бұрын
@@NoOne-bp2jw yeah of course. It's why they're usually pulled if the carcass shows signs of it and used for trimmings. That job is usually done by people with OTJ training, Some cases of DPM are bound to be missed. And he is right about buying fresh as you can get if you want to guarantee a quality meat. The more it's processed the lower quality the overall carcass may have been, yet still edible. For instance you aren't gonna use a Grade A carcass for bologna, but grade C trimmings are just fine as it'll be ground to slime anyways Grade A is no tears in the skin, bruising, good even color, no broken bones. Used for whole carcass sale Grade b is some imperfections. Parts that meet grade A quality on a grade B carcass are usually used for whole muscle sale/ muscle group(boneless breast, wings, dummies) but will also be used in delimeats Grade C is major imperfections, such a DPM. Usually trimmed and used in ground and emulsified products, such as ground chicken, bologna, and hotdogs All meat that makes it to the grocery store should be safe, although some instances of unsafe product will get through time to time.
@randomrazr

@Thoroughly_Wet

@@randomrazr it's all perfectly fine to eat after being cooked if you don't mind the fact it's green. Birds that "suffer" from DPM show no outward signs of discomfort or sickness. The only way to tell if the bird has DPM is to process it. The most suffering it had to endure was living in a temperature regulated building with access to food and water and protection from predators. Processors can tell when birds have been abused/neglected. They don't pay farmers as much for birds like that and usually will stop doing business with them all together if it happens regularly.

It’s not cancer, this is called green muscle disease. GREEN MUSCLE DISEASE Also called Deep Pectoral Myopathy, which is the necrosis of the Pectoralis Minor (tender) muscle of poultry. Necrotic tenders appear yellowish-green in color. Green Muscle Disease results from vigorous activity of both major and minor pectoralis muscles, but only the tenders are afflicted. Compared to other muscles, the tenders have a more rigid muscle cover and are confined to a tight space within the body such that they can't expand to accommodate this increased blood flow. The net result of the muscle being confined and compressed is self strangulation, suffocation and eventually necrosis. Increased broiler activity induced by such factors as feed or water outages, lighting programs, catching and live haul, and even excessive noise, may result in an increased incidence of Green Muscle Disease. Because it is a localized injury to the tender breast meat, usually occurring from a hen who has either had their breast tissue over developed (growth hormone) or one who had tried repeatedly to flap or stretch in a confined/caged area and injuring themselves. The rest of the meat on the body should be fine to consume. Think of it as removing the feet of someone who has severe necrosis of the toes from frost bite. The doctor removes the dead or damaged tissue, possibly at most the whole foot, but he doesn’t just tell the nurse that the whole patient is now dead or a lost cause. Just remove the damaged muscle tissue. Kind of a dark metaphor, but…🤷

“Yo the chicken has cancer!” Proceeds to touch it
Plot Twist: that chicken had cancer in it to
This isn’t cancer this is actually what’s called green muscle disease found in chickens (especially Cornish rock). Although not a dangerous disease the affected muscle shouldn’t be consumed and though the rest of the chicken is not necessarily affected it wouldn’t hurt not to consume it. Usually occurring near the Breast region of the chicken where they’ve endured a blunt force trauma that lead to internal bleeding within the breast muscles. Over time when the body tries healing itself internally the loose blood hardens into this yellowish/greenish cavity between the breast tissue. Had the chicken been cut open soon after the trauma there would be fresh blood where you see yellow, having hardened into this size and color indicates the trauma was endured a while ago. The presence of the blood damages the tissue and cuts off the blood supply to some of the surrounding tissue, hence it dies and breaks down.....a gangrene of sorts and shouldn’t be consumed. Another cause for green muscle disease could result from vigorous activity of both major and minor pectoralis muscles, but only the tenders are afflicted.

They wobbled like when they walked and would sit every couple of steps. I didn’t know what was wrong with them. I then asked a coworker that raises chickens about it and he laughed and said, “those chickens are only bred for meat. You have to slaughter them around 8 weeks or they will die a slow painful death!” 😳 poor chickens. Results of cross breeding chickens just to get a mutated chicken for meat that can barely walk.

That's called Deep Tissue Myopothy. It's not cancer, but not edible either. Most ethical butchers will toss that in the bone can. It's basically just dead tissue in the breast. I've seen this only a few times. Happens mostly in commercially raised chickens.

This probably his first chicken he has ever bought.
Even if this was cancer, which it isn't, his logic of "it has cancer so you wouldn't want the butcher to just 'cut the cancer out'" is totally nonsensical, as if chicken cancer is gonna be transferred to you by eating a chicken carcass? And chicken butchers are aware of this yet totally belligerent? Nothing going on in this mans mind follows any sound logic
Atleast send samples for biopsy to confirm if its really cancer. 😂

I'm glad he showed the chicken while misdiagnosing it, bc the comments corrected the error and filled in the blanks. Thank you to everyone who helped teach me something new today. To the people giving him a hard time for his mistake: give him some credit for leaving it up. So many self centered cowards with fragile egos delete and run these days. Besides, I would argue that being wrong is a good place to start if it leads to 5.7K viewers having a conversation about the ills of factory farming. It could even become a strategy, if played correctly. Cheers!

Apparently it's Pectoral Myopathy. Death of muscle cells in the oectoral region. Due to lack of blood supply yo yhe area. Happens from chickens having too much muscle in the breast region to supply blood to the area. This results in the muscle dieing. Not sure if i am entirely correct ,and according to some other people it could be due to the chickens using their muscles too much as well. E.g if you use a muscle toouch but enough blood can't get to the entire muscle, the muscle starts to die.
