Found a honey hole with some nice perch!!

Спорт

After no action at another beach I decided to move spots. Landed on a nice honey hole filled with good size barred surf perch. All fish were caught on a Lucky Craft 110.

Wow! You really caught some very nice fish. Do you fish NorCal? Monterey or Santa Cruz areas? You told another fellow to use lighter gear. What rod do you use?

Thanks man. Yeah I fish from Santa Cruz to Carmel, mostly in the Santa Cruz area. My rod is a 10’ daiwa salmon steelhead rod. Think they discontinued it. It’s rated for 1/4-1/2 oz lures. Perfect for throwing Lucku Craft and jerk baits up to 3/4oz. I like rods in that 1/2-2 oz rating. I use 15lb braid.

@@caloha7057 Thanks. 15 braid; most use 30. Do you have a fluoro leader or just straight braid to the LC, Calissa or Battle Star. I'm 80 years and don't wade much and have trouble casting those lures far enough. I just got a super light rod Okuma SP shorth handle 8"6" but have other Okumas and a Hawaiian Custom 10'7". I have fished Twin Lakes, 4th Ave, Sea Cliffs, Sea Bright, Rio Del Mar, and Black Rock Beaches with variable success, I always get there when "You should have been here last week. Ha Ha

That okuma Hawaiian is perfect. I was thinking about picking one up. If you don’t go deeper in the water with waders, fish at the higher tides. Easier to get to deeper water. Look for beaches with sand piled up. A nice slope makes for better structure.

@@caloha7057That sounds more like the Sea Bright area than the father south Rio Del Mar areas. Yes! I always look for deep sloping beaches with near shore "blue" deep water so I don't have to wade. The Hawaiian Custom is a Roles Royce of surf rods. But for an old guy like me that long rod seems to get tip heavy (unbalanced?) after an hour of constant casting and retrieving.
