"Fought in Afghanistan and Iraq, But..."| Why Putin's War Has Jolted Ukraine's "Foreign Fighters"

Many foreign fighters who joined Ukraine’s fight against Russia are grappling with the brutality of the war, as per reports. The US and NATO have been sending weapons to help Ukraine but have refused to deploy troops against Russian forces. President Zelensky set up the International Legion of Defense of Ukraine just days after the Russian invasion in February 2022.

I think its more along the lines, since they dont see any Ruzzian troops, is the fact Putler keeps bombing and shelling from OUTSIDE and above the country. Kind of hard to fight off the enemy when they are not in the same country as you are, to actually get to the troops that are! I wouldnt call Ruzzians stronger, not by a long shot. Putler is a war monger, its obvious all he's done the last 23 yrs is mass produce bombs and shells. He has how many troops? And when they are hand to hand with Ukraine who has 1/15th they have, they lose big time. Having said that, Ukraine is by far the stronger side.

Eh, Ukraine was, and still is the weaker side by far. I think everyone already knew that no matter what we throw at it, there would be a stalemate. And time is against the Ukrainians because Russia has the numbers to keep pushing forward. I think the Legion was created to help, but ultimately show a fighting spirit to hopefully get planes and troops on ground. But that's still not happening, and the foreign fighters are probably realizing that Ukraine will be hung out to dry, especially with Biden in the chair.

Then they have to do it again later in the day. And then again the next day. And with every engagement they take losses, and everytime they win an engagement they have to bear the fact that they didn't even put a dent into the overall strenght of the Russians. Western soldiers are not used to that. Thet're used to quick and easy victories against weaker opponents. They can't sustain that.

What I love is if it were men wearing American flags on their uniforms to help the ethnic Russians they'd be heros. Answering the call from people who've been shelled for 8 years, had their water supply blocked to 2.5million people and who's coup government sent actual nazis to quell the unrest in the east who've been begging for help and someone finally came but because they're Russian they're war criminals. I guess America forgot about the 11million people we killed in the middle east, 90% of which were civilians. The west is disgusting and our populous blinded by a very nazi like propaganda apparatus that leaves them knowing less than nothing about anything

Iraq was considered a formidable military before America completely moped the floor with it. Saddam Hussein had one of the top 10 "strongest" militaries with around 1 million military personnel. Its more about low tech war vs high tech wars. If America is involved the war is over in the matter of 24 hours due to technological superiority. Russia's military is vast, but its definitely stuck in the stone ages. So is Ukraine's (with the exception of western backed weapons and training given before the invasion since 2014). This is why we see old school trench warfare almost entirely fought with artillery.

@@illicity2383 No. Iraq and Ukraine are completely different theaters of military operations. For example, the entire North of Ukraine is populated in the middle of the forests. There are many rivers and swamps, you can only move on roads, you drove off and the tank sank or got stuck. Hiding in the forest from satellites and drones is not a problem. The Russians simply did not have the coordinates to strike the Ukrainian troops, and the Ukrainian troops were received from the local population. It was enough to take a photo with geolocation. About the trenches is a modern war, because maneuver ended with the invention of cumulative ammunition. I'm from Ukraine.

Russia has already successfully tested its "satan 2" intercontinental sarmat hypersonic missile. So, it takes the WHOLE western world + Ukraine to try and stymie a "stone age army"? lol dude you are living in a fantasy. In parting: Yea sure Iraq was one of the top 10 militaries in the world....just like they also had WMD (rolling my eyes). Which is firing artillery ahead of your own attacking infantry to destroy obstacles and defending trenches. The Soviet Russians did the same thing in WWII by making their artillery and rocket launchers mobile to set up quickly behind their armor and infantry before they attack and follow during the advance to relocate behind their forces to support the attack. That guy who spoke that appeared jovial and didn't realize the weight of his own statement. Many fighters were killed without ever seeing any Russian soldiers, either by artillery barrage, drone attack, rocket attack from ambush, thermobaric weapons etc. If anyone thought this is like Middle East which was really just a high school bully situation but against goat herders, they are sorely mistaken.

those who don't know their history are doomed to rediscover how brutal a real war of fighting for your life really is... WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam. Survival is the name of the game and that is this war. The most determined will do what ever it takes to win this "WAR". This is not a "CONFLICT". Conflicts have rules... This is an all out WAR there are no Rules when your life is on the line Survival of the most determined will prevail at all costs... SSGT USMC ...Survivor...

In those wars they were fighting against piecemeal armies where they brought overwhelming air superiority. Not sure how western armies would fare without airpower against armies of India, Pakistan or any other nation which gives brutal training to their infantries.. I thought I can include Russia but their army seems to be made of men drunk on Vodka.
