Foscarini 3 pieces in F: Prelude, Alemanda, Corrente della la funebre - Rob MacKillop Baroque Guitar

Музыка

Apologies for the extraneous noises here and there in this video - at its worst around the 4:40 mark! Possibly only audible with headphones or ear-buds. I"m having a hard time getting my recording setup working as it should. For the sound I use a Rode NT4 stereo mic going into a Fostex FR2LE hard-disk recorder - decent gear. The mic has been refurbished after a few years of my use, without trouble. If any recording experts hear this, I would be grateful to read your advice below. More videos to come. I teach students across the globe via Zoom. Let me know if interested. If you like what I do, why not "buy me a coffee" by making a donation to www.paypal.com/paypalme/Suppo... All donations go to help fund my free videos, research and websites - a sadly not-for-profit venture! Rob

Re-compsing music to fit the "normal "format is like repainting a Picasso to suit the "norm". I loved them the way they are written thank you very much...cheers Rob!

Ha, he was not as extreme as Picasso, but I agree with your general point, Bob. Glad you like his music!

Here's my take on the noise, Rob: you're correct that it wasn't noticeable on my computer speakers. When I put on my Bose headphones, however, I definitely noticed the interference in the left channel. I used Audacity to record a few seconds of audio around the 4 minute mark, where you indicated it was problematic. I imported the track into Adobe Audition, then I split the stereo track into separate mono tracks for each channel. In the right channel, there was no audible interference; it was clean. In the left channel, the interference was very audible and seemed centered right in the middle. I isolated the noise point and was able to successfully eliminate it using noise cancellation, which means it was definitely a frequency of sorts and could be corrected. Since it was only present in the left channel, I'd venture it was either interference closer to the left microphone, or an issue with the left microphone itself. You could swap out the mic to determine whether it was the microphone or an outside frequency (like your Wi-Fi extender, etc.). Hope this helps. 😎

That's useful information, Josh. Much appreciated. It's a single mic with a stereo head (Rode NT4) which I just had refurbished. The guy said the head parts are getting old, and there are no replacements anymore, so time is limited on it. I might have to buy a new one. Thanks again.

I LOVE this. Very dulce tone. Where did you get the guitar? Not that I can afford one, but it's fun to research.

Hi, Rob. Great playing and despite the background noises, the recording sounds great. Have you tried replacing your cables or using your mic with a different recorder, just to try to isolate the problem? Are there other electronic devices nearby? I used to have trouble getting a clean recording because my wifi router caused interference that would get picked up by my audio chain. Eventually I was able to do a little rewiring and move the router to the other side of the house.

Thanks, my friend. I’m glad you enjoyed the recording despite the distractions. I was beginning to think that the Wi-Fi might be a source of concern. The router is downstairs, but I have a Signal Booster in my room. I’ll switch it off next time. If that doesn’t solve the problem, I’ll invest in a new cable - I have no other recorder to try it with. Cheers, Rob.

I don't hear any noise and your playing is very good as always. To make the instrument sound good, do you prepare your fingertips for playing? I have very dry hands. If I wet them or put cream on them, they sound different.

Yes, I use a moisturiser everyday before and after playing. The last thing I want are calluses on my fingertips on both hands. The string amplifies what you give it. Rough skin = rough sound, smooth skin = smooth sound. It’s simple. So, yes, I do take care of my finger pads. Cheers, Rob.

I use the poor man’s moisturizer for my fingertips, just the grease from beside my nose- side effect: my glasses don’t slide down my nose that quickly 😊

Nice 👏👏👏I am not metered enough to notice if it conformed to a framework of section convention or not, but freeform it sounds organic and floral as nature that is un-square as flowing water. Interesting about the funeral aspect, its not emotionally charged or morbid, sort of reflective and settling for a moments reflecting on the departed. Of the dots (which i cannot read), do you know if you can read music backwards or does its format only make sense in one direction? Have you ever tried music backwards ever?

Yes, I have. And Bach used to write pieces with the music going backwards and forwards AT THE SAME TIME 😱😂 Sometimes it can sound good, sometimes (most times?) not. But a composer like Bach can make it work.
