Thanks for the tutorial! It's really helpful. Our coach also taught us some of the basics, which is similar to what the practices in this video are about, but she also mention that, if you are unable to bring that free leg up when starting to work on this, you can try with both feet on the ground and aim to have least weight on the front leg as possible, so that later on you can try bringing that foot up for the power pulls.

Perfect timing and great video as always Mary. I'm just working on these now. Anxiously awaiting your backward one foot PP video as these are the ones I'm having trouble with right now.

Your tutorial about keeping the arms at 10 and 2 and not making the curves shallow was really helpful. I always feel like a crazy flamingo when trying these and end up skating to a crawl. LOL.

Very very useful, thank you so much for the clarifications. I was wondering about all that such as how much knee bend, how much free leg swinging and if your arms needed to swing or not.

Nice demonstration. It has taken me 18 months to pretty much crack this forwards, and backwards is getting there. I found the key was to learn to do the alternate C cuts cleanly, and then the power came naturally. A mistake I made for months was to think I had to push aggressively to the side to generate speed. That actually slowed me down.

Everyone always makes this move look so simple. Going on 2 or 3 years trying to get it

  • @StillAliveAndKicking_

@@mechez774 It is not simple, it is very hard. I don’t think I had cracked it when I wrote the above post. I practice less now, bit it is progressing. Just keep at it. And bear in mind that those flash harrys who make it look so simple probably spend countless hours each week practicing their skating. Even kids do, and they have the big advantage that they have more energy. My skating coach practiced 20 hours a week when training, over many years.

Where do you want your weight on the foot that is doing the pushing?

I'm trying to get more comfortable skating on one foot , I'm already 5'10 so I have to work extra hard with balance ....I will definitely work on these and if there's anything else that helps getting better at skating on one foot could do a video on that ?
