Forward Bay Parking Manoeuvre & Reversing Back Out, Driving Tests in 2020, Easy Parking,

Learn how to do Forward Bay Parking.
In this short video we will show you how to do Forward bay parking as simply as possible and how to correct the parking if it goes wrong and not between the lines. This is one of the 4 practical driving test manoeuvres.
The aim of this Manoeuvre is to drive forward into a bay, between the lines safely using very slow car control and effective all-round observations. Then reverse back out again and leave the car park. If you don’t get it in the lines don’t worry you are aloud to move it backwards and forwards to re adjust it into the bay. It’s a good idea if another car or a pedestrian comes towards you from anywhere to stop and work out If its safe to carry on. Don’t forget once you have worked out what they are doing to recheck everywhere else again before continuing.
This Forward Bay Park Manoeuvre is done in a car park away from the test centre so could happen at any time throughout the test. If you don’t end up inside the lines of the bay it could be fail, so don’t forget to re adjust it if you realise.
If you have any questions about Forward Bay Parking, please comment below and we will reply ASAP. We Are driving instructors that teach people to Forward Bay Park every day, so we have great experience to answer your questions with, and are happy to help.

    Thanks for this I passed in March and always struggled with this as I was never taught specifically how to pull forward into a bay. I have been using the mirror as a reference point when going into a space already but it is great to know that is how it is meant to be done. Good to see this in the test too because almost everyone uses parking bays.

    ritu pandey in most car parks it’s a good idea to signal going forward into a space as it’s almost impossible to know which other cars you may be affecting. When considering any signal in any situation, consider if it would be misleading, if it’s not at all then it’s probably a good idea. Hope this helps

    This is an excellent video, have a question though that I think you should really addressed. For example, when turning into the bay the front of the car crosses over to the other bay and would hit a car if it was there. Is it then ok to just do the maneuver in 3 points?

  • @ThinkDriving

    @ThinkDriving

    6 жыл бұрын

    Avinash Singh Thanks, yes it is ok to do a shunt back and forward if needed. Although on the video it looks like it crosses the line it’s just the camera angles where the camera is not directly over the car. On none of the examples does it actually cross the line. Hope this helps, and good luck with your test :)

    I passed my driving test more than a month ago but I find myself unlearning everything my instructor taught me. I especially have a hard time in car parks when parking between 2 cars. I usually have to always reverse back a little and go forward again. With all fairness though, most people don't park properly anyways they usually are on side of their bay cramping my space.

    This might sound really stupid but say I have done a full right lock then when the car is level with the a line or wall in front is it 1 left to straighten up? Also say I’m over the right hand line near the drivers side do i reverse out then as I drive forward do I steer 1/2 left then quick 1 right then quick 1/2 left to straighten?

  • @ThinkDriving

    @ThinkDriving

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi, to straighten up, you take off the amount you put on, so if you put full lock on that 1 and a half turn in most cars to take off again. If you are over the line what you said should work in most cases :) Go and practice, and even deliberately park on the line if its safe and practice fixing it. Once you have enough experience you will be able to do all of it without thinking about the amount of steering :)

    Iris Jean-Klein hi you are aloud to reverse and go forward again. If the car park is wide enough tho you will get in without hitting them, some of the clips on the video look like it goes over the lines but that’s just the angles from the camera. Hope this helps :)

    There can be several reasons. Either you are steering to slow or the car is going to fast. If you are doing both these things right then you need to find a new reference point. The one her gave you may work for some of his students but you may be way taller or shorter then then so you may need to find one that works for you. Hope this helps :)

    I got asked to do this on my test last week. It was the second manoeuvre, should you get 2? I did parallel park at the start of the test, but was given no faults for it... so why did I get a second manoeuvre?!! I failed on this one because i was over the line, I wish I had seen this beforehand.

  • @ThinkDriving

    @ThinkDriving

    karl collitt You should only get one manoeuvre. What did your instructor say about it? At the end of the test you have to park the car but if it’s not your official manoeuvre unless you where unsafe it should not have been marked as a fail.

    My instructor said it was "a sickener". The second bay park manoeuvre was carried out before I got back to the test centre. This is what confused me... If I had carried out the parallel park previously and incurred no faults doing so, why would I be given a second manoeuvre? Makes no sense.

    Hi there are a couple of shots where it looks like its over the line but that's just the camera angle where the car is not directly under the drone. That said it is acceptable to go over the line a little, its up to you as the driver to asses how much is possible, if there is no car in that space you can go over it as much as you need as long as you end up in the space. Hope this helped

  • @ThinkDriving

    @ThinkDriving

    Alex A Thanks for your comment, you very much are aloud to go over the lines as long as it’s safe when you do so. Your aim is to finish in the lines and if you don’t that is an issue on your test but going over the lines getting there is fine if all is safe to.

    In the U.K. In December you get to Reverse bay park. There's more changes as you can use sat nav or road signs navigation. Tester can mark from saying hello to goodbye. Knowledge, Skills and behaviours . But will realistically fail you from what you do moving off to parking up.

    Is this not just lazy parking? Much easier and more accurate to reverse park once you learn the dimensions of your car.

  • @ThinkDriving

    @ThinkDriving

    6 жыл бұрын

    Carl Duffin This helps people that have zero experience to gain understanding of the dimension of their car. They can then go on and choose how they park. Also most people forward park as it’s easier to put your shopping in the boot if you have a trolly load if your forward in. But you are not wrong it can be safer to reverse into a space as it’s easier to see when leaving the space later
