My grandfather bought a house in 78 across from Estero Island Beach Club, right on Bayview Drive. Been coming ever since even though we don't own property anymore. Back in the 80s, there was a guy, John Holgerson, he'd take us out on his catamaran. I lost touch and was great friends with his daughter, Kristie. His wife, Diana had an ice cream shop at FMB, called Strawberry Corner. Ahh, the memories. Pure paradise! My home away from home. Thank you, great video!

I lived on Fort Myers Beach for 22 years. Very nice place. The traffic is awful from December to Easter but the beauty and warm weather makes up for it. There were some years I didn't have to wear a sweater once, other years I wore a sweater maybe 10 or 30 days of the year. This video brought back many memories as I recognized most of it. Drove over those bridges thousands of times, walked up and down FMB and onto the pier hundreds of times. 5 minutes of walk from my front door I could be on the beach and enjoying the July 4th fireworks party. Good times.

I lived in south Florida for many years, both sides of the coast, from Orlando on down Florida is amazing. People that dont like Florida are either just rampit complainers or out of touch with reality. Some talk of the heat. and yes florida is hot, but it is such that you will eventually get use to. so much so that your wont even think about heat much at all. And this is coming from a NewYorker that drove around in a convertible top down 90% of the time WITH black leather interior!!!. so.. if anyone knows i know. He'res the deal about the heat, if your from the north, your use to dry weather. even when its hot (which the north is often hotter than the south) Most of your issue is that your skin pours are clogged with oils. seriously. you flesh produces oils that keep your skin from drying out in the north summer and winter months, but in Florida with its heat and humidity your skin cant breathe. So you begin sweating like a dog. How to remedy? simple get in the waters often. be it the Atlantic or the gulf. get in the states pristine salty waters, and that salt will not only eliminate all your dead skin (which you will realize you have a ton of) but also it will completely clean out your skin pours enabling your flesh to breathe. Another benefit is that the salt water makes your skin tan very easy. You will begin to feel just fine as your body can then regulate its temperature much easier. OVER time even without going to the beach the very salt in the air, and the states often hard water will achieve the same results. The salt in the air will also see that your blood thins out a bit. and in time this very hot region will actually feel more and more normal, even to the point of being very chilly and cold in the winter months. Florida is beautiful is all regards, its skys its lands, its really a tropical island attached to the mainland. and the south wester cities enjoy the most of this ideal. the beaches are not just some of the best in the USA, they are some of the best in all the Caribbean. the bonus of which your still in the US enjoying all the benefits of the USA. in other words, the diversity of peoples from all over, and the options like no other. Today may be Japanese on the beach, tomorrow Moroccan. diversity and options. Its a state that reduces stress. sure theirs now a lot of people and huge traffic jams, there is a reason why so many people from so many countries including the US states and neighboring island nations have all been flooding into Florida the past few decades. 1.opportunity 2. stability and wealth 3. lifestyle and quality of life 4. great schools. 5. ever growing job market and economy. 6. beautiful and still in touch with nature. 7. best beaches and family entertainment 8. Luxuries abound and access 9. cost of living 10. other places wish it had so much for so little. its only when you leave Florida after complaining, then coming to the realization of what your not getting in these other states that you realize the worth of Florida. its mostly a tourist state, so it caters to the well being of its people. the benefits and creature comforts ment for tourist also apply to its residents. And though you may not care for the influx of spring breakers every year, you do enjoy the fact that when they leave you have such a nice place to live thats now all to yourself. So the complainers dont get it. or at least they didn't until covid. and until their favorite states like California basically priced them out. taking upwards 80% of their pay just to living in a tiny apartment, when in Florida you can live on the beach. for a quarter of California's costs. California sold its people out for greed. Florida doesn't even have state income tax. go figure. Give me the Pina colada and the powder white sand beaches of Sarasota any day over the 'Hey! look at me im somebody!" demeanor of California'

@@TampaAerialMedia Yes Freedom.. That was one of the first things i noticed after returning to the state to live and work. People just pulling off the road on the side of the highway to go fishing!! I was like, what the heck!!!! REALY !!! THATS LEGAL HERE!!! WOW!! If it were NY the cops would give you a huge fine, and force a tow truck service upon you costing like $500 or more. I would say, that sort of treatment is typical of the city but if your venture upstate NY they do have litter rest and recreation stops off the highway, but no where near the freedoms you find in florida. NY is a, "if theirs any joy or fun to be had, then the city must tax it for income" this is why i Hate NY. It is my place of birth, and no place in the US is quite like it, has a ton to offer, but its ran by crooks and criminals. all looking to screw the next guy over. Florida isnt perfect, but it might as well be an Angel in comparison to NY.

"Florida takes care of its people" Not sure what your comparison in making this statement implies but the powers that be in this state and their friends and families are the only ones being taken care of. I'm guessing youve spent too much time in Florida and have little to compare to. Unless of course like many of the people I meet in Florida you have drank the kool-aid and have gotten used to the taste.

  • @xevious2501

@@JohnJohn-wr1jo Im from NY born and raise, and lived in Florida your years as well. I know Florida has its issues, both city state and gov level. people are pissed and a ton of corruption.. but guess what. Its still NOTHING in comparison to NY. Florida you drive home park your car, have dinner end of day.. the morning you get up goto work repeat... NY you drive home after spending about $40 in tolls. park your car about an hour after driving around town looking for a parking space. then you go home eat sleep wake up the next day to a ticket on your car for $300!!! cause you 5 minute late on alternate street side regulation. Pay another $40 in tolls to goto work repeat. THERE IS NO COMPARISON in the level of GREIF and stress between the two places. again, i know florida has changed, now more than every, but its still virtual paradise in comparison, let alone the far cheaper cost of living. which is why.. for all the people that bashed florida, kinda ironic theyre making a b-line for the place. You really dont know what you got until you findy youself other places.

We went to fort myers beach and cape coral beach and had fun. Going jet skiing and going on boat rides to sanibel island was amazing. I love it there and I wish to go back and have as much fun as last time. Im obsessed with the palm trees & I love the water. The city just brings me joy to my heart and puts a smile of my face. After being in Las Vegas and Phoenix I didn't expect to see so many old people almost exclusively, not that thats a bad thing, at least as far as crime goes. Vegas and Phoenix are pretty surprising to if you're from the east or Midwest.

Cape Coral was the first city I lived in when I moved to Florida back in ‘05 and I hated it. Ha! I was so homesick for the NE and the Cape was like moving to another planet, including the people I encountered. If you’re a female and breathing then prepare to be aggressively hit on by men everywhere you go. At least that was the experience of my sisters and I, who never seen anything like it before, and I may never see it again (hopefully). I dated a local who was a totally dysfunctional and abusive person and my sister is currently with a local of the same personality type. I know there are people like that everywhere, but what are the odds that you meet more than your share in one place? My two younger sisters attended the high schools and the culture shock was…a shock. Going from a sleepy small town with values to whatever the Cape is makes you need some therapy afterward. One sister who had attended that high school moved back up north and said she will never move back to Cape Coral. It basically ruined the whole state for her. The only redeeming quality in that area was Sanibel and Captiva Island. Once I moved to Orlando some years later I started to actually enjoy living in Florida. I have one sister still living in the Cape and the last time I and my family visited we stayed in Naples 😆

"Just changed the speed limit to 40" ?? In the entire city? 😆😆 You are aware that all streets have their own speed limit right? When did they "just" make this change ? I must have missed it. If it's taking you too long to get everywhere, you gotta learn your way around and stop using the same 6 streets every snow bird uses to get places, and if you're here during season, there's not much you're going to do about it either way. Except for maybe moving to Idaho,I haven't really ever heard anyone complain about traffic there.

Less accidents now! Too many shops and homes right off DelPrado. Folks come here and want to speed! Sacramento Ca and Houston have folks adhere in to speed limits better than here. Too many neighborhoods and shops to have higher than 40! This narrator should have gone all the way down to tip of Captiva. Truly breathtaking. Tranquil. Many restaurants all are quaint. Captiva #1. Downtown Ft myers nice but we do need more restaurants. This SW is truly a gem if you want extremely low crime.

Pine island has speed limits from 45 to 50 and some spots far away from residential neighborhoods have 55. LIved down there in the late '80s, in Estero, south of San Carlos, before all the all building and I-75 was completed. It was a beautiful place to live at the time, not crowded. There were lots of open lands, which isn't the case any longer, an old bar at Estero called the Shipwreck, was a great place to unwind. Sanibel and Captiva were just beginning to grow, Cape Coral wasn't anywhere as big as it is now, and use to have greyhound races in Bonita Springs, which I assume isn't there any longer since they didn't mention it in the video. I guess all things change, and sometimes not for the better.
