you need to be a major power to confederate others and you can only confederate with insignificant powers.

BTW: Protectorates are extremely op. After decreasing the relation to neutral, you can pupped them and you only have to pay 10% if the ae cost. Example: Pupped spain 150AE (without protectorate), 15AE ( with protectorate)

It's very useful for unifier nations, such as Germany and Italy candidates, since they want low Infamy to keep other tags supporting them. Unfortunately, you need < 25 Infamy, have them *not* have "Defend the Borders" goal, great relations, and you need an obligation from them. (It might be possible without an obligation, but +50 is usually it.)

@@Caesar-- Bankrolling makes it easy, if somewhat expensive. Japan, Spain, Portugal Sweden (even as Scandinavia), Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, and some others are absolutely possible. In terms of worth, snagging the Netherlands means inheriting the East Indies, Japan has a bit of everything, etc.

Protectorates only good use is making sure they never leave your market. Once you get your SoL higher then theirs, you can just siphon off their population if they are in your market.

Coincidentally, I have a distant relative that was actually a premier of NSW.. he passed the land act in 1861, which entitled people to buy land from the crown, instead of perpetually leasing it.. I’d heard about him in our family tree, never knew what he did until I walked past a statue in Sydney and recognised his face.

More Italy please! And Ludi you should try replacing Portugal in Qing, it’s my favorite way to become a textile empire. I think this every time somebody makes a synthetic plant XD

@@For4BF take their treaty port. If you replace them and whatever port the UK gets in the Opium wars you can basically monopolize silk and luxury clothes in Europe. It’s fun to make so many cheap clothes with a resource monopoly that other textile mills shut down and turn into peasants, making your fabric and grain imports cheaper lmao

I formed Italy yesterday and I wanted Ludi to form Italy and Italy gameplay in vicky 3

when you are looking at the trade screen and find a goods you need more of, instead of clicking buildings, finding say lumber, then clicking expand and then clicking the province, you can also just right click straight from the trade screen and down the bottom it'll have expand buildings that produce/consume the trade good.

You should try to get the achievement, "Minors, not Miners" as Langfang. It's tough but also fun because you start in the Qing market, so you can exploit many market imbalances. Also, they start as one of the most progressive nation, so it's fun to go all the way. I'm trying for a socialist Langfang, I got all of the starting island but needed Vietnam for their opium and population. Non-Ironman mode btw

It is my understanding that the electric saw mills does not free up any workers. In your case it reduced laborers by 77k but then employed an additional 38.5k of both machinists and engineers. In other words the exact same number of workers were employed but some of the workers were given better jobs. The main benefit of the production method seems to be the massive increase in wood production, likely resulting in more wood produced per person employed (better efficiency).

The first railway to be built in the Italian peninsula was the Napoli Salerno in 1830. Sadly the game doesn't really do this justice in any way

Something else wildly overpowered: Bukhara If Bukhara annexes their two horde neighbors (one east one west), you effectively control one of the most opium rich places on the planet. I got to an Average Standard of Living of nearly 30 by the 1900s just by exporting opium. I joined the Russian market to get a lot more countries to sell to but you could also get a military push south to get your own port. Or join the Chinese market and sell them all the opium they could ever want. Either way, total economic dominance.

It's real pain, since Pope doesn't start as major power, so you can't use the Risorgimento at the start and people will not want to join your Trade union. And chances are Sicily will declare unification war on you, which well... you are way weaker than them. But it is possible.

I don't get how you convinced everyone to join you so easily. The papal states, despite all my best efforts, refused to cooperate in multiple games, despite my best efforts. Every time it led to war, dragging in France and Austria to the papal side (despite me having substantially better relations). I don't get it.

All that gore in Australia... it is what compels me to constantly fire up campaigns as New South Wales. I get like Thanos in the post credits scene of Age of Ultron in saying 'Fine. I'll do it myself.' Of course, the first few decades are a slog seeing as how New South Wales has more cows than people, no construction sectors and no urban buildings. One of these days I'll figure out how to make my homeland into the superpower it deserves to be!!!

You don't need customs union to unify. If you go straight fo tech and have good relationship you will get their support anyway.

I was able to form Italy by starting as Sardinia-Piedmont and declaring war on Austria within the first 2 years of the game demanding Lombardia and Venetia. Only Two-Sicilies and, for some reason, Greece joined me but it was enough to actually win. Just use the superior S-P units to defend and let Two-Sicilies do the attacking. Their troops suck but sometimes they get lucky and actually occupy some terrain and that tanks Austria's war support faster. After that, strong-arming the minor Italian nations is child's play.

You are really lucky guy, try some lottery... Anytime i tried to do the same , big countries were like "it is gangbang time", especially being cornered by both France and Austria is pain. I tried switch early to skirmish infantry, tried to just build up barracks, to make armed forces happy...it was not enough , so i just waited to zero infamy.
