She has her GS trophys and doing it by taking out Serena at FO and Venus at WC. You did an amazing job and no one can take that away from you. I will forever miss seeing those amazing dimples and amazing smile of yours. And your quirky tik tok videos you made before tik tok became what it is. God bless and Happy Retirement Garbine Mugu.

A big fan and I watched nearly all her matches. In 2020 and 2021 you could tell she was driven to regain her form. I believe to prove to herself as much as everyone else her heart of a champion. In 2021 she won 3 tournaments and then the magical run at the WTA finals, rising to #3 in the world. She achieved her comeback goals and I think that's why 2022 was what it was. She had nothing left to prove. Wish her all the best.

She definitely earned her world no. 1 ranking and GS by defeating 2 legends. Mugu quickly realized everyone was coming for her as new #1 and I don’t think she developed much of a defensive game or plan b. All the players and coaches studied her game and picked it apart quite easily

She's dealt with intermittent good form and results for years, since around 2018. Bad one year and then back to good form the next. She won the WTA World Tour Finals and ended at #3 in 2021. in fact that is the last tournament she ever won, and frankly, she won only 12 matches all through 2022 and early 2023 when she played her final tournament. But she also had a fair number of injuries that likely contributed to her inconsistent form. All of that said, she was a really good player when she was at her peak, which sadly was between 20-24. Big serve, big forehand and was much better at the net that people like to give her credit for. But she didn't look happy on court since she won the world tour finals at the end of 2021. It's almost like she used up whatever motivation she had left to get that last big title and after that, she felt like she had accomplished everything she wanted to. I could be wrong. It's possible that injuries still plagued her and that, not tennis is what sapped her of the drive to continue.

Can return, but no way will she be able to compete with the top players. Look at Azeranka, Venus, Angie Kerber, Carolin W, and a few others who may have had children , and wanted out , only to return years later but not win major tournaments. Her love for the game was gone. Got the money and that was the story.

Hard not to be a fan of hers. Hall of Famer for sure. She seems to be one of those talented players who achieved satisfaction by winning 2 majors and becoming #1, slowly lost motivation and decided to pursue life outside of tennis. Nothing wrong with that or her awesome career. How players like Serena, Venus, Djokovic and Nadal still have that fire burning is amazing.

it happens. Pro sports is tough , lots of players have bodies that just can't take it , has nothing to do with desire. actually that might be a hindrance, trying to come back too soon.- I'll name 2 . former ( 1990 era ) NFL. NY Jet QB. C. Pennington. current - WTA player , Czech K. Muchova who is actually my fave current player to watch, can't stay on the court - I think I read wrist surgery, out until 2025 , the current issue. aside: Dom thiem had wrist surgery I think ( not sayin the same ) and isn't really recovering.

It was not with Conchita! I believe it went down hill when the German Physio and Mugu got very intimate. Then they got the rumored gay guy to be her boyfriend. He supposedly had another wife/ skater who came out as bi/lesbian. Seems contracts and the powers in Professional sports and their sponsors prevented that woman from being free. After so many years of pretending and when no longer under scrutiny and contracts they reveal the truth. He did a video back in 2016-2017 i believe explaining how he met Kiira. He is an ex Tom Ford executive and a trained PR guy . Think his marriage was a lavender one to his former wife or just a fake marriage. He is a great looking guy , but I think he could get a better looking woman if he wanted.
