A musical prodigy, Angelina Jordan sang for the first time at barely a year old, and she never stopped. The Los Angeles-based 14-year-old singer and songwriter amplified her voice around the globe, racking up over half-a-billion KZread views, just shy of 2 billion Facebook views, and praise from Time, CNN, The BBC, and People. Along the way, she performed for world leaders at some of the most influential events in Europe, appeared on European and North American television, and quietly enraptured a growing fan base. In 2020, she brings a soulful signature sound to life with her Republic Records debut. The breadth of Angelina’s soulful and deep alto vocal delivery showcases a rare class of musical aptitude that you would attribute to an old soul, and legendary talent, well beyond her years. “I feel like I’ve lived many years more than my age. I feel like music found me. I want people to get connected to my music and my lyrics and to share something special with the love I have for music." Angelina went from belting out Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” to immersing herself in jazz at five-years-old. She discovered Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Louis Armstrong by combing jazz playlists across KZread. At eight-years-old, she won Norway’s Got Talent with a viral rendition of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday.” Labels and producers feverishly sought her out, but she already possessed a clear picture of what her path would be. Taking her time, she opted to carefully hone her voice through countless hours of practice, gigs, and writing. “It was really great, but I knew I wanted something bigger,” she admits. “I didn’t want to jump into it until I felt I was ready.” She got “ready” through a series of historic performances. She graced the stage of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony and delivered an emotionally charged rendition of “What A Wonderful World.” A year later, she wowed an audience at Brilliant Minds in Stockholm. Touching down in Seoul during 2017, she joined a powerhouse bill alongside PSY and Norah Jones in front of 40,000 people at Muse In City Festival. Quincy Jones personally invited her to perform at his 85th birthday at London’s O2 Arena. Every time she took the stage, she was notably barefoot, which remains one of her signatures thus far. “A long time ago, I was traveling with my family, and I met a young homeless girl with no shoes,” she recalls. “She was barefoot, so I gave her my shoes because I really wanted to help her. Today, I sing barefoot as a reminder of all the kids in the world who need help and support.” Along the way, GRAMMY® Award-winning production duo Stargate [Beyoncé, Sam Smith, Rihanna] reached out, and they initiated a fervent creative partnership together. She continued to write lyrics, compose on piano and guitar, and record. Catching the attention of Republic Records, she inked a deal with the label in 2020. Now, she formally introduces herself on the single “Million Miles.” With lyrics exclusively penned by Angelina, her robust delivery sails over sparse piano on the verses as the track builds towards a sweeping refrain, “We’re a million miles apart. It’s pulling my heart." “Million Miles” is about losing someone you really love,” she explains. “This song is very personal to me, because I had never felt the feeling of losing someone before I wrote this.” With more music on the horizon, there is more of Angelina’s captivating voice and songwriting in store. “I hope you feel connected to the music and the stories behind the songs,” she leaves off. “Love is the most powerful thing though. That’s the message.” Angelina Jordan a decade of dedication 86 Melody kzread.info/head/RD9Tw

I was surprised that you gave her an 8. She was live in this recording and, as with many live performances, there are distractions and other things that interfere with song perfection (as we've come to expect from Angelina). Personally, I've seen this live performance live and would give it at least a 9, likely a 9.5 or 10. Regardless, I value your comments and suspect this will be the last 8 you give her. Thank you for your reaction!

Always love to see you back on some Angelina, Maunalee! A little Angelina will always calm your nerves after a tough day with the kids ;) This was from a live show that Angelina did in 2018 when she was 12. There is another incredible version she does at 11 with just her and Egil on guitar. You can find it on her cover channel. I know you are just doing the links that people give, but whenever possible you want the version where you can watch her sing it. It has so much more impact when you can see how naturally and effortlessly she does it.

I love your reactions but in my opinion this deserved a whole lot better than an eight! A couple of small cracks do not mean anything especially in a live performance without studio processing. Her voice was right on, her timing impeccable, and her phraseology fantastic. The tone of her voice also was right on. At minimum this should have been a 9.5. For whatever reason, I just thought you were too critical of this particular performance. Any professional singer would have killed to do it that well.

Angelina delivers so much emotion, and I believe the cracks actually add to that. She takes this classic Patsy Cline/Willy Nelson country song, and makes it very blusie and jazzy, which I like a lot. A couple of pitch issues, but very minor. This is a live performance from the Kongsberg Norway Jazz Festival in 2018, so she is 12 and performing with her band. Wonderful guitar solo in the middle. There's another version when she was 11 with Egil on guitar that I actually like better: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nKmFm6iDk825h84.html You can see her singing in this one, and for me it's a 10. She slows it down even more, and gives it a very blusie, jazz vibe. Other than Patsy's, it is my all time favorite version. Difficult to imagine how an 11 year old girl can breath so my feeling into a song. But then, she is an Enigma. Thanks Maunalee. Good to see you reacting to Angelina again. 💕💕

Anyone doing a cover of Patsy's music will fall short if they don't have some yodeling in their background. It was almost a "must-have" in that era. Hi Maunalee, It's so nice to see you back with Angie. That was a great reaction & thank you for your honesty. This is not my favorite version of this song by Angie. But I still liked it. Angie does those (what you call cracks in voice) on purpose & you hear them in other songs. Also she does sometimes miss a note or have it sound flat or sharp. That's Angie just expressing what she wants to do with the song. For Angie, remember 1 of her my God given abilities is AP & tremolo etc etc. Since your last reaction to Angie's “Million Miles” (official lyric) video. She made it to the finals & she didn't sign with ATG just like Angelina Jordan & she got 6th place also. Hi again Maunalee. My first comment was before I listened to your reaction. Now, please understand, I love your reactions even if sometimes I may disagree. In this case, you were so obviously enthralled throughout the performance and into the beginning of your commentary then took, I thought, a rather critical turn for no reason I could ascertain. After reviewing those items you mentioned on the original recording and again on yours I just can't find a flaw whether technical or stylistic. I have known Angelina to make a mistake but they are rare as hens teeth. What seem to be mistakes to you seem entirely purposeful and intentional. The crack in her voice on "what in the world....." is an effect I have heard her use many times and is affectation I find delightful and endearing. Nevertheless, this is an honest interesting review with a slightly different take on Angelina's performance. Still much appreciated.

He was also warm, funny and down to earth. He was an Iranian ex-patriot whose family came to Bahrain during the Iran/Iraq war somewhere around '82, '83. I was talking to him one day and idly mentioned how every flight of stairs had one odd step. He said, "Yes, for perfection is Allah's alone." That's kind of how I feel about any Angelina flaw.

Angelin's mother Sara Astar has said, in interviews, that it was important that she keep going to school and that she has a normal childhood. Angelina could have signed recording deals much earlier than her deal one last year with Universal Records, but I think the family was right in holding off until she was older and more capable of handling the slings and arrows of that life. She is such a wonderful young girl and I think her family has put her wellbeing first rather than dollars.

I liked it all, except for the guitar solo. It felt as if the guitarist either skipped, or forgot some notes. (Hopefully...because if it was an artistic choice, it should have been rethought) Also, all though the video was fine...being able to see the performance, Angelina, the band, the audience reactions, would have improved everything greatly. This is a live recording so there is no going back and fixing the small flaws but I'm sure if Patsy was in the audience, she would have loved this cover. When Patsy did her version, it was a 45 single which was limited to about 3 min. of recording time. I'm sure when she did it live, she would have stretched the song out because it does have more in common with jazz. Also. when Patsy did her version the record companies wanted pop "hits" not jazz, so often singers like Cline got repackaged as something they weren't. Love Angelina's version and I sometimes wonder if those little pitch things she does aren't intentional experiments that just miss the mark. There is a lot of pitch bending in the original which is quite a challenge even for a professional singer and I wonder if Angelina is just working on her technique even in her live performances. To me it's those little flaws in her performances that give them such honesty. Sometimes I think it's the perfection of artist's recordings these days that drains all the life out of them. Just my HO.

@@kevinbarron1796 The examples I gave are pretty obvious. Why is that an issue? It is very hard for Norwegians to get the word manger right, for instance. It is quite illogical, so no wonder she did that. In surely, everybody who has some knowledge of English would know that the first sound is what scientifically is called a voiceless post-alveolar fricative. She however, made the alveolar fricative. I have studied these issues at University level, and I even looked it up in my book of intonation and pronunciation for confirmation, so why people constantly keep protesting against scientific facts, like the ones I presented to you now, is really beyond me. But you are not the first, and probably not the last on KZread to do that. It is exhausting, really! Flat-earthers here I come!

I find it difficult to remember that Angelina is still just a "kid" , albeit a very gifted "kid". Éven the great Karen Carpenter sang differently from one live performance to another. Karen would use different phrasing and notes every now and again just to make the song a little different. Just with Karen and Angelina in my opinion, both are perfectly imperfect so to speak. I love to listen to either one. I am hard at hearing but any song that either one of them performed I can hear and understand every word that they sing. I thank God for Angelina and I dearly miss Karen.
