Thabo Mbeki holds no office in government, secondly he has very little practical sway in current day internal ANC politics, unfortunately. It is no secret that the ANC is fractured and that within it there are camps that would rather continue with plundering the country until there's nothing left, and that fraction has way more stamina and sway than any of the level headed voices that oppose this kind foolishness and demand appropriate introspection and change.

I really want to see what's gonna happen on this one. If it was another person, we would never hear the end of all the laws that were broken. This will be a real test on just how "credible" our institutions are.

Even the ever so eloquent Mbeki is struggling, in fact at pains justifying why the Cyril is not telling the Nation what and why Phala-Phala. This is much more serious than I thought, wonder who is on the side of the President at this point

He is not struggling to respond, there is literally nothing to say at this point until all investigations have concluded. It's called due process. We really need to stop this attitude of drawing conclusions without concrete evidence. Perhaps Ramaphosa is innocent or he could be guilty, only the investigation will tell. I think Mbeki understands this, hence he hasn't really given his opinion.

When he speaks in general about the current state of the ANC former president Mbeki come across hard and really concerned about the situation but when directly asked about one of his comrade/friend from ANC been implicated in a direct money laundering and corruption scene he start to smile, shy away from the matter and sympathize with the Ramaphosa. Mbeki is the same like the rest of the ANC corrupt clan at the core. It does not matter how you look at it. Mbeki used to run a corrupt government and never punished them or open cases at the police station. Let's not lie and say corruption and state capture started with Zuma.
